Tall tales

  • Hi .. How is that normal that Tall Tales doesn't save.. Like I've been doing shroudbreaker for about 4 hours and then my internet crashed and the whole progress is lost I don't get it.. Even when someone wants to have a pause off the game he quits it and all his progress is lost.. This tilts me so much.. I don't want to spend 24/7 with tall tales

  • @fanaticgolf4141 Hi there and welcome to the forums and welcome to the Sea of Thieves.

Don't worry too much about the progress "lost" on this voyage.
You have made progress I'll sum up how:

    • You know where to go
    • You know what to expect
    • You've learned miscelaious things like how to sail better, how to read maps etc.

The great thing about sea of thieves is that progress isn't just in cosmetics and reputation, it's in knowing how the game works and how to act in certain situations.

Now you've spent 4 hours on a single tall tale but I've never had one take more then 2 hours even the first time (I know the seas by heart so the Riddles are rather easy). Nowadays I do them in less then an hour because I know what to do at all times.
Your progress wasn't in completion but in knowing what to do, you'll see when you start it again. And later you'll re-read this post and think to yourself: "4 hours? Why did it take me 4 hours?!"

I disagree with constant saving, but tall tales should definitely have checkpoints.

  • @fanaticgolf4141

To be fair though, 4 hours is a very unusually long time to be spending on any one Tall Tale or voyage.

The Shroudbreaker should take an hour, hour and a half. Two hours at the absolute max I think.

Is there something you're having trouble with?

  • This is one serious weakness with the current SoT voyage design; problems like this can rob you of time... which some players just don't have much to spare. There should be a way to continue Tall Tales across sessions/crashes/etc for sure.

  • @fanaticgolf4141

As someone whose average playtime rarely exceeds two hours, I can sympathize. I've actually taken to breaking up Tall Tales into two or more sessions.

The first time I play it, I don't even try and complete it; instead I simply search for the journals. The second time is when I get into the actual Tale. Depending on the complexity, I can usually finish it in one or two tries.

The others are correct. Most Tales can be knocked out in between 1-2 hours if you know where to go. And even previous Tales can help you complete future ones quicker, as the structure of them becomes more familiar.

I know that first fruitless try can be upsetting (especially when you lose it to something like connection issues). I wasted my first attempt at the Shroudbreaker simply because I didn't realize I could turn the pages of the book. But keep at it, because it DOES get easier. Just figure that most Tales aren't going to be a one shot thing, and view failed attempts as information gathering that will make your next attempt more likely to succeed.

  • @blazedrake100 The tale surrounding the Shroudbreaker and the Shores of Gold already has 8 midway points in which progress is saved.

You have to view the collection of chapters are 1 long tale.

They're each individual stories also though. Plus, an hour or more is too long between checkpoints imo.
