Twitch Rival's SoT Stream

  • What are your thoughts on today's (and tomorrow's) Twitch Rivals stream featuring SoT and what it means for the future of the game itself in terms of content, exposure, and competition?

  • Been watching nothing but adverts so far. This is fun!!!

  • Lol, I'm one of those older gamers that prefer to "play" games rather than "watch" others play, so to me I really really couldn't care less... I take it "twitch" is just a streaming platform.

I guess they'll be streaming Arena content if it's team on team. I mean if it brings more people to the game then great. The more people, the more money and then the more development. Just hope the development is balanced between PvE and PvP and this "exposure" doesn't bring in a flood of PvP players and Rare end up having to pander to the masses.

I prefer PvE but like a bit of PvP on the side, I like the thrill of evading other pirates rather than sinking them and only man my cannons if the chase gets boring... So like every other live stream that's come before this one, I won't be watching.

  • @guybrush3pwood2 I'm watching for the rewards! 😏

  • @galactic-geek what!?! they give away awards for watching a stream?!? Like bribery to increase viewing numbers?

  • @galactic-geek Also... how do I watch this stream... Asking for a friend...

  • @Guybrush3pwood2 You get Obsidian Livery for watching today and tomorrow.

2 pieces today, the other 2 tomorrow.

Link you XBL/MS account to twitch, wat h on the official SoT or Twitch Rivals channel for at least 30m to get.

  • @guybrush3pwood2 Go to seaofthieves.com, click on the purple banner at the top of the web page, and follow the instructions to link your Twitch and SoT accounts, then watch 30 minutes of the stream today (started at 1 p.m. eastern) and 30 minutes of the stream tomorrow (will start at 12 p.m. eastern) to earn all 4 pieces of the Obsidian ship set (hull, figurehead, sails, and flag).

  • @Guybrush3pwood2

    Link

  • @guybrush3pwood2

It's the current trend.. I hate it as I love the look of the ship but I have to watch another player to earn it..
Would much rather play myself and earn the cosmetics.
But hey... I understand the need to promote a game.. But is the arena really good enough just yet to advertise.. it could be better..
He who avoids PVP the most shall triumph.. Not really working as well as it could is it.

  • Wish us regular pirates could get in on that $100k.

Perhaps in the future when they are done proving things out.

  • @guybrush3pwood2

If you are a unsure of how to link accounts, Captain Falcore posted a video to YouTube yesterday detailing all you need to do.

  • There's more downtime, commercials, tournament stat menus, and host chatter than actual gameplay footage (in the past 45 minutes, I've only seen about 5 minutes of actual competition)! This can't bode well for SoT. I could've sworn I saw a pirate quit out of the game immediately after dying. If they don't even care about playing the game for real world cash, what does that say to viewers about SoT!? 😱

Much thanks to Captain Falcore for that video.
I signed up and linked up because of it.

  • @galactic-geek It's because there was one crew left. He left because the organisers said to leave the match because of that.

  • @eggamer13 Ah, well, I missed that part as I was distracted by family. Whew! 😔

  • Terrible experience. Never been on twitch before and said I'd like to see a console only group to the tournament..... got banned by the moderator. Seriously? So a console user asking about consoles is bad mojo or bad for publicity or bad for twitch? Never again will I support this.

Will laugh when after about 45 minutes the viewership drops...

  • Do you have to write something in the chat window to claim your reward? I mean, there's so much chat on there it's impossible to read any of it through the xbox, it all just reads !loot or !rewards

  • @guybrush3pwood2 No, ignore the chat.

No, that is just morons spamming... One of the reasons I don't like watching bigger streams.

  • When watching a streaming service like Twitch or Mixer, I ALWAYS disable chat - it's a cesspool of negativity.

  • Can't wait for my 45 minutes to be up.. This for me is not enjoyable, but I want the ship cosmetics that is my football teams colours PAFC..
The things we do for pixels!

  • @needsmokes I should've set a time :( lol,

  • Okay... that's enough for me lol. 1hr. Saw some cool action tho. Never going in arena now lolololol.

  • @pithyrumble I'm not a big fan of arena either, but that's only because I haven't put together a good crew that's also willing to partake in the competition.

  • 29k viewers currently on official SoT Twitch channel and a further 25k on the Twitch Rivals channel (and that's not even counting each individual competitor's own streams). Whoo! 🤩

  • @galactic-geek i am just wondering how they select these “top-notch” arena players, like its easy to say and sounds toxic to call it out but they weren’t that great and made ALOT of weird/bad calls all accross the teams

  • I think that it is a great way of rewarding existing players that are invested in the arena mode. I also think that it will greatly help the game get some more exposure and allow new players too see what the pvp part of the game is like.

  • @galactic-geek

Well, from what little I've seen it, once again, feels like folks who don't really play the game acting as though they know the community. Biggest gaff so far - the hosts talking about Summit1G's advocacy and love for the game not long after he rage quit and said he hopes the game dies. It felt like the commentary was pre-recorded from December. All the clips they showed are old and pre-Anniversary update. The "exciting moments" weren't particularly exciting. Overall, kind of sad.

We'll see what the afternoon brings when the more hardcore SoT players are supposed to be playing.

  • Got my loot. Signing out unti tomorrow 🧜‍♀️

  • I must say I am quite disappointed with what I have seen so far. The lack of knowledge about the game by the hosts is clearly apparent.
They mentioned certain streamers implying that they have saved the game. Planned to watch it for a while this evening but I stopped when the loot dropped. All in all sad face 😣.

  • @rich223820

This was such a laughable show with too many ads. Thankfully we just needed 30 minutes to watch that 🥴

I agree - just starting out and seeing how they worked the sails and anchor. My crew would crush these guys.

As for the hosts, @J-S-St-Johnson and @rich223820, I don't really blame them - they're Twitch employees and probably cover a lot of games. Do you really think they'd have time to figure out everything that took us months to learn? They were probably just given some talking points and are doing their best to promote the game. For that, I give them props because love them or hate them, they are growing the game('s community).

  • I just had the stream on while I got some other things done. I probably only watched about 10 minutes of it.
