so today i wanted to do gunpowder smuggler voyage or however you call them, and the i realized i didn't have any doubloons because i used them all up a couple of days ago. so how about being able to change your cash into doubloons for the same exchange value as when you trade doubloons into cash. i know what you are probably thinking "just get some doubloons!" but most Bilge Rat commendations for me are quite hard to get, i don't want to grind them just to get the damn voyages. what do you think?🤔
being able to change money into doubloons
@cookieconsumer6
That would devalue all bilge rat cosmetics if they do the adventures right again. It would also make it too easy to level up.I think time limited events shouldn't cost any doubloon to participate in the first place. The original Bilge Rat adventures didn't cost anything and are still replayable compared to the mercenary voyages where you can't buy any quest after the event ends and the commendations not unlocked are removed for you.

I have been preaching this for a while now to no avail. @cookieconsumer6 I'm not in favor of being able to buy doubloons but I am 100% in favor of making the Mercenary Voyages cost gold instead of doubloons. For now you are going to have to find crewmates that are willing to buy the voyages.
You can get easy doubloons by going to an (inactive) fort or two, get gun powder barrels and sell them. 20 to Order of Souls gets you 5 doubloons (as 20 to gold hoarders and 20 to Merchant Alliance). That gives you enough to buy a voyage (and earn more doubloons).
@skulliah
Yeah, its really annoying how they make the mercenary voyages cost doubloons, and not be repayable after the event is over. Hopefully they keep the selling gpbs comms at least.I there would be some problems here in that it would be too easy to indirectly use your gold to shortcut to Pirate Legend, and just devaluing them altogether.
I think the game should be able to detect if the player has less than 10 doubloons. If the player has less than 10, then Duke could donate 5 to 10 doubloons to you just to let you kick off the event and start building up your doubloon stockpile.
The reason these Mercenary Voyages cost doubloons is so that they aren't endlessly repeatable. But at the same time, a brand new player doesn't have a doubloon stockpile to participate in events with. That's just one of the inherent issues with the Mercenary Voyage events concept.
@cookieconsumer6 "the Bilge rat commendations are hard"?
You have easy commendations that can give you 5 doubloons, the exact amount you need to buy one voyage...
If you spend your doubloons on other stuff it's up to you, you don't have more to buy the voyages...
Let's say I spent all my Gold in cosmetics, then I don't have any to buy voyages... I need to do other stuff, sell other stuff to have money...It's the same...
I think if u want something u work for it. Not ask for a handout.
So yes u need to work hard for it if u decided to use your doubloons.
The only way u cannot have enough doubloons is when u buy money or levels. Kind of a way of taking a short cut instead of the hard work.
If u work for gold and levels u have more than enough spare doubloons.
Thats my 2 doubloons on the matter

Still not enough to buy a voyage ;)
@skulliah yesss, i totally didn't think of that! also about the letters of recommendation, don't you think 30 for one level is too little? am i just bad at the game? i mean 30 for one level seems a little over-priced, but i am only about level 30 on three trading companies so maybe it's more worthwhile when you're on like 40-49, what do you think?

You are not bad at the game, there is absolutely no right or wrong way of playing Sea of Thieves. My advice would be to take your time and enjoy your adventures rather than focusing on your levels. I know, Pirate Legend is a very attractive title but do it for the glory, make your own legend :)
If you really want to buy your levels, yes, save your doubloons for the last ones, they are more difficult to level up!
I think it’s a good idea but there has to be a limit. I say there should be a one time ability to purchase 5 doubloons during each time limited event.
Just like dukes ability to buy gold for doubloons, in the new tab, where you can buy the voyages and cosmetics, you could purchase 5 doubloons for 5000 gold. You could afford to do one voyage and earn doubloons from that voyage.
On a personal note, you can join another crew and let them buy the first voyage. After you earn some doubloons, you can buy the next one.
@blazedrake100 I disagree, as you usually have to complete 'X' amount of voyages for Duke in order to unlock those cosmetics. By the reasoning you have presented, commendations that give out dubloons are devaluing those cosmetics also. It doesnt make sense since you need dubloons to purchase the voyages that give e you dubloons
I think it's a good idea. Most of the legends are looking for gold sinks to ply their millions (I'm one of them).
I dont believe in the concept of 'devaluing' in this game because everyone plays at their own pace. There's no reason to play gatekeeper because some of us played a more or less difficult scenario than someone else. There is no ranking system to distinguish 'trash pirates' from 'good pirates' skillwise, and the cosmetics only require ingame currency.

@cookieconsumer6 dont buy levels!
never ever you miss the voyage and betray yourself for it.
And for what, being impatient and then disapppointed to have nothing left to strive for ?
If you buy levels save it for 45+ when it becomes harder to get a level done.
But my recommendation is, dont do it. you miss nothing if it takes longer, but you will miss the way to go for it.
Many legends ask for more stuff to do - they maybe wouldnt if they would have taken the journey more important than the levels.
Although i have to admit that even the laziest Pirates who never worked off any levels are Legends today if they roam the seas since the start of the game, eh i mean since we got trappend behind the shroud and are dammned to sail in the Sea of Thieves forever ;)best solution was postet by...

or you find some easy commendation from old events that give you dubloons.
@selcouthrogue
I was thinking more about levels than bilge rat cosmetics. Also, bilge rat events used to not lock cosmetics in the glory days of them. Then they locked some with forsaken shores, and it started going downhill from there.@blazedrake100 That's true, but the reason they did that is so that players who were hoarding their dubloons wouldnt be able to just cash in on the prize without having done the event in the first place.
@selcouthrogue
But they still had to earn the doubloons from other events. If it was too easy to get the cosmetics, then they should have made the comms harder, not lock them. After the event, it doesn't even matter what the comms requires for the cosmetic was. Especially not for new players, they'll want to do the events either way.@coffeelight5545 i have no crewmates, and going "open crew"... well we know how that will probably end.😂
