Personal Traps!

  • So I'm fishing the other day reeling in a catch and some skeletons had the gall to spawn and attack me from behind. I lost the fish and took a bite of a raw one in the aftermath before killing the skellies.
I'm proposing we create some small traps to ensnare these cowardice skellies or errtrrr pirates until we can land our trophy isle hoppers!
I need help with the traps and gadgets though. Here's what I have so far.

Snare- fishing near your favorite palm tree? Hook one of these bad boys up and watch em dangle until they can hold "y" for 15 seconds!

Open foot trap- Ouch! A pirates land mine! Bury 2-3 of these in the sand behind you and you'll never have to worry about getting jumped again.

Dead mans hole- It's always fun hearing the palm leaves crackle just before the oh (edit) I messed up!

Let's add a few more and get the list turned into RARE!

    New Trap Ideas:
    Cargo net snare (traps multiple)
    Barrel Rats (eats supplies)
    Granny's Grog (long sleep)
    Swinging boom (send pirate flying)
    Flying Coconuts (A catapult trap)
    Summon Jaws- ( chum bucket)
    Widowmaker trap (ship nets)

ok it's a good idea mate but you can get banned if you reply to your own post i'm sorry to say

  • @closinghare208 Note taken, I'll delete. I was just thanking Crabby for his upvote😐.

    ok I didn't know

  • @closinghare208 So do you have some ideas to add? Crabby & I talked about both a noose snare and a cargo net snare yesterday. The cargo net could trap multiple skellies!😁

  • @duke-of-spire I would love the cargo net and I would say my idea is that after pirates got snared they would be tied up

  • @closinghare208 Tied up? You mean where they couldn't escape? Or would they be able to escape but would be vulnerable for a short period of time?

  • @duke-of-spire said in Personal Traps!:

not able to escape but when a pirate cuts them down then they can run away

  • @closinghare208 Now that's funny! You got me laughin here! I would leave half my crewmates dangling! Muwahahaha! There would have to be an escape though where they could perform some action to get out. Otherwise pirates would be hanging upside down all over the Sea Of Thieves!

aye it would only work for crewmembers but for the enemy he or she could not escape

  • @closinghare208 This scenario would be hell on solo players. They would have no one to cut them down unless of course random skeletons would cut them down while attacking them while they were hanging upside down! Oh they have to add this!😂
Scenario- A pirate is in a snare, skeleton spawns, the pirate cheers, the skeleton gets caught in a snare. Pirate & Skeleton are dangling together.😂
This kind of addition to the game would add so much laughter and it would bring tons of players back to game chat during their voyages!
I can hear @swan (Aussie) now! "Uh hey thar mate? Got yerself in a lil pickle thar did ya? 😂😂😂😂

YES! I would so love this lol it would be amazing

  • @closinghare208 No traps on ships though!

    maybe if one is sneaky

  • @duke-of-spire

I can see these traps working on ships, but only if you and your crew can get caught in your own traps. Only make your ship as much of a gauntlet as you are willing to run. Or just load it and trick someone into boarding you.

  • @closinghare208 Traps on ships would be op but sabotage? That's another story! Place a rat in the food barrel and the food starts disappearing.😁 Poison the grog and those who partake fall into a deep sleep (2 minutes). Stuff like this would be ok.

    aye

  • @ultmateragnarok I'm wavering on this one. Sell me on some traps that would work on ships? Did you ever play Sid Meiers Pirates. In one fight scene a "boom" swings like a pendulum from above and hits the enemy Captain sending him flying out into the ocean. That would be hilarious. It'd have to be like pressure plate activated!

  • I think Personal Traps would be a great idea. There could be some really funny moments.
How about palm tree catapults? a twist on the snare but the trap slings it's victim far out to sea.

  • I like this idea, I'd love a trap where you can get strung up from the sails or the mast when you board peoples ships :)

  • How about fishing chum that you can throw over the side of your boat greatly increasing the number of sharks around you vessel. Make it a little harder for those pesky pirates to board you.

  • @guybrush3pwood2 Great idea! Catapult!

aye like in pirate of the caribbean

  • As long as they can be noticed by an observant pirate and avoided Yes. Great Idea. Also if you do get caught in a pirate net you should be able to get out. However you should have to put in some sort of skill based input to get out.

  • @duke-of-spire I was passing by and that first paragraph made me stop... Just to tell you that's not a truly sentence... Eheheh
It's impossible a Skelly ships spawned on you, those type of ships are disabled since the anniversary update (April/May). Only the roaming ones are still in the game.

Well said this, I'm on my way again eheh oh, about traps yeah, why not since we could build them with resources we gather around.

    Cheers

  • @nunoazuldimeter Hi my friend. I apologize if I didn't go into more detail. I was standing on the shore near the dock at Crooks Hollow fishing. It wasn't a skelly ship. It was skeletons.😇 If you reread the post you'll see no mention of "ships"😊

  • @duke-of-spire ohh!!! ahah I read Galleon where you wrote gall 😂😂
    Sorry!

  • @xbus6 I think some traps will be more obvious than others. Dead mans for instance would have ground cover and a palm tree would be bent for the catapult. While the rat in the food barrel would be getting fat the foot trap would be well disguised. Some would be noticeable and some not so noticeable.

  • @duke-of-spire
    Sounds good to me.
My only problem would be if they were inescapable. But they should be hard to escape.

  • Eh, my only support would be if there were lootable traps you could find in game like any other items. A bear trap roughly, that you could set anywhere you please, and if an enemy pirate stumbles on that, they take significant damage. Say that equivalent to a shark bite. Setting a bear trap at the top of your ladder. Which can be broke by a cannon shot or a bullet. Would add some spice to the game and I think is feasible.

aye but i wonder how they would code it

  • Traps are a bad idea in general if player controlled; take bear traps for example - I would bury them in high traffic areas like in the sand by the shipwright's dock or narrow island passages and cave entrances. The former would easily get me free loot as it holds them in place long enough for me to snipe them to death from my hiding bush and take their dropped loot.

That said, I would love to see some non-player controlled traps on cursed skeleton ships to make them more dangerous to would-be boarders.
