Are skeleton ships rising from the water by your boat gone?

  • We've played a ton lately, doing Tall Tales... and have noticed not a single Skeleton ships has risen from the water to attack us. Are they disabled or what?

Also whats with the Meg music? It starts playing immediately when one shows up rather than starting when it attack. I preferred the old way, when it attacks.

  • I noticed this too, I do prefer that they don’t rise up on a sloop, especially now that the ship damage is so OP, it would destroy most solo players to the point of frustration.

I do think they should still spawn on brigs and galleons though.

  • Ahoy @Tedakin!

The skeleton menace has been noticably absent since the Anniversary Update, and it isn't mentioned in the Patch Notes either, as far as I can tell. People have been, shall we say, critical of them, so maybe Rare finally decided enough is enough.

I've been prepared to face them, as you always should be when venturing across the Sea of Thieves, but they haven't emerged from the depths so far. Now I really miss them.

  • there is no more Skeleton barrels either since the update, which has probably made doing skull forts take a bit longer (unless they did are activated on active skull forts).

  • @tedakin
aye me and my crew have noticed the same - and we do miss them :/, they added a dynamic and for it to be so noticable says it was mistake to remove them if they have been removed.

  • @tedakin Aye, I have also noticed they have not been rising from the deep. But there seems to be plenty out and about. We have taken down quite a few even since the update. #pirateshipbattle

  • @tedakin They were not disabled a couple of days ago. Was realing in a fish at a shipwreck near marauders arch when I heard that dreadfull music and two ships popped out and started harassing me. Almost lost my haul due to them and an overzealous Meg.

  • @lifewcoke teo ships near marauders may have been the skeely ship event

  • @jayne-cee The ships rising is one of the coolest things in the game. PLEASE RARE don't just take that out. Sure, make it so they don't attack sloops, but leave it for everyone else.

  • @lifewcoke Yeah that sounds like you were just at the ship battle. 2 ships don't rise at the same place in the regular map. Marauders is where one of the battles is.

  • @captain-coel @tedakin It could have been, I dont really remember seeing the cloud but I also wasn't looking for it. I do know it wasn't there when I started, lol.

  • @tedakin nah they should attack sloops. skelly ships are easy to sink. just be prepared

We take down at least 5 every night Maaybe more on a sloop we did a couple of events in a sloop. They are easy.

  • @captain-coel

Easy with a two man sloop. 33% of players play SOT’s solo though so they get wrecked.

  • @biter-wylie before the combat update I would kill them regularly as a solo sloop. havent had a chance to get a spawn on me skeely ship since the update. I'm not worried though.

They are still easy to sink. The problem isn't sinking them though, the problem is how easy they will get the upper hand and sink you since the update - they have plenty more ways to take you out now with extended damage.

I think the spawns were heavily nerfed to help solo sloopers. There are plenty of roaming ships to make up the difference and now you have a choice to aggro them instead of being harassed by a Skalleon you can't shake.

Most of us with experience would be able to handle them for the most part, we know the strats - but I can see plenty of fresh pirates struggling with them and getting frustrated.

I like things the way they are now. If they're going to bring them back in future, they should not spawn on solo sloops.
