It is one thing to be trolled or griefed by another ship and or its crew but being forced to play with players that do not want to help or participate is a major problem an needs to be addressed. Why is there no way to kick trolls from a crew ?? Instead we get to lock them in jail were they just play music and or flood my headset/Tv with mean an hateful language an sit in brig an collect gold for being trolls. Jailed players should not get paid!! Or maybe just remove brig/jail an replace with ability to kick player. (walk the plank) everyone keeps saying griefing an trolling is the pirate way i say so is thowing your (beep) overboard.
Brig/Jail is broken and pointless

I have suggested this before. In addition to the brig, they need to add a vote function to 'maroon' a player.
The crew would vote to 'maroon' the offensive player and said player would be transported to an uncharted island located at T2 on the map called 'Maroon Key'. This person would be removed from your crew and would be reinstated into the world as solo player.
Whilst being placed at 'Maroon Key' they would have no resources on the island and would be given a mermaid, which would spawn after 5 minutes of being on 'Maroon Key', perhaps display a timer. As soon as the time has been reached then the mermaid would appear and only appear near 'Maroon Key'. Even if the offending player decides to swim to Marauders Arch, they would have to swim back to Maroon Key to get the mermaid.
Once they retrieve the mermaid they would be placed on a sloop. Which by default, the sloop shall always spawn within the Devil's Roar and would observe proximity detection.
@friedwilly The reason this is a horrible idea, is because you will get trolls that kick a crew member after they finish a voyage. They will have put hours in and not be able to sell the loot.
@justnsane85 use the search function. Vote to kick has been discussed over and over. It's a mechanic that would easily be abused. My suggestion would be to stop using open crew and use crew builders like discord.

Merely an idea to combat the issue of non-productive players on your crew. Regardless, at some point Rare needs to address this behavior.
All I know it is no fun when a player essentially hijacks your crew and said person should not benefit from their behavior.
@justnsane85 primarily as a kick before hand in technique.
Myself and 2 friends start a galleon. and open the crew up because our normal fourth wont be on for an hour. As a crew we grind out some missions or most of an athena etc. Then our buddy logs in. We vote to kick the random player. Close the crew and invite our friend to the spot. Now they get the loot and/or rep and the booted player gets nothing.
@captain-coel or you could be a good person an inform that player of your situation. This is nonsense you think it is better for two friends to host a brig and a random player should be adil to join drop anchor set off powder kegs and call everyone N words an so on with no way to do nothing except leave my fully stocked ship because of 1 bad person. This is a dumb argument an it is a no brainer.
@justnsane85 it's just an example. I think the fault is more in relying on open crew.
also of they are using hate speech record them and report it. that is a violation of the ToS for Microsoft.
if they are blowing up your boat, dropping anchor, or otherwise griefing their own crew, record it and report it to rare.
Sorry but vote to kick is capable of being abused. You should use crew builders.
@dailyalphattv
I agree that trolls would take advantage of the proposed fix and do far more damage. Check out a YouTube channel called "Weregonnalose". He actually explains why he and other trolls would be a far greater nightmare to deal with of there was an option to boot or maroon other players. Keeping the brig system makes more sense because I'm pretty sure you can mute other players who are being obnoxious after they get tossed in the brig. (I might be wrong as I don't play in crews). The people coming up with the proposed troll fix are well intentioned but they aren't considering that trolls are imaginative creatures who will always find an exploit.

@captain-coel This makes no sense to me. I would also love hear how you think it would be abused.
I dabble with the open crew system, when non of my buddies are around and I am not in the mood for soloing. I tend to do this by myself and will play with any pirate that tries.
Now I have a tale in which the abuse would be problematic for me if we were given the opportunity to kick a member.
I am a legend and have been for quite some time, so this tale is from before most people had access to Athena voyages. I joined a galleon and there was a group of two and a random, we hit up a fort and cleared it. The random guy left after we cashed in and the two pirates I was with invited a buddy of theirs that came online. I was like, amazing open crew one of the best ever... so I ask as a fairly fresh legend, guys you up for an Athena voyage? They eagerly accept, we go out on our way and things are going fairly smooth for a bit over an hour and a half.
That is when all of a sudden my screen goes black and I am in the brig... they start telling me, with 3 voyages to go including the Athena Chest, that I need to leave as a buddy of theirs came online and they want him to take my spot.
I am a stubborn person and no way in hell are they going to hijack my Athenas to give it to their friend that just came online.
I sat in that prison for 1.5 to 2 hours not sure the movie almost finished. I was moving around, while watching a movie on my other screen... they tried playing tricks on me, being mean, leaving me alone, puking on me and even drowning me a couple of times.
In the end they actually cashed in everything, as they finished it off (which naturally I was tracking) and guess they were fed up with waiting... I asked them if it was worth being a man down and wasting their time on trying to motivate me to leave while they were cashing in. I didn't get a reply and they all left... ooh I even forgot to mention the messages in the xbox environment I was getting from their friend for the duration, started out nice requesting and turned to hate messages fairly quickly.
Did I enjoy myself? Not really, was I happy they couldn't kick me off the voyage I laid down and spent time doing? Damn right I was.
I have other stories before the closed crew system where you were in the brig before you even had the chance to see the sea.
The issue isn't the brig system, the open crew system is just as flawed as it has been from the start, even though closed crews solved some issues. For solo queue it is still bad and really could use some love. There is no need to give others the power to use you as a extra pair of hands till their buddy arrives and give them the spoils of your efforts.
I hop ships, make an assessment of the ship and crew and decide based on supplies, communication (pirate chat works if they can respond with eye and no) and seeing all members move whether to stay or not.
@captain-coel thanks for your opinion i do like the feed back but i still think it is a really bad example an does not site any real abuse. An just makes u the bad guy as were my example sites real abuse and this is game played by children. Not everyone has ability to go to facebook/discord/twitch exc.
@cotu42 these are fair examples and i do not claim to have all the answers however i do feel the current situation is far worst then the opposing idea. Maybe there should be one capt. that makes those calls and you enter open crews at your own risk or host your own open crew. Either way current situation is bad and need be addressed asap.
@justnsane85 I think the issues are not with the ability to get rid of someone. The issues in an open crew is to get everyone to want to do the same thing.
This is an open world where you can make your own fun with your crew... but if one wants to fish, one wants to do tall tales, one wants to do forts and the other wants to hunt other pirates... or Athenas or merchant voyages or you name it, it becomes hard to motivate people to help out.
The open crew system is flawed and I think positive reinforcement is the better approach than the ability to cycle through crew members.
what we really need is an objective based match making system. something like I start a galley and want to do gold hoarders all night. so I post my crew as open and looking for gold hoarders. hope to get like minded individuals. this would be easier than relying on discord or xbox lag or forums.
Right now I mostly use discord to find like minded people but I wish I could find them through the game as am I an xbox player
