Volcanoes are not fun and are to powerful

  • This is the only thing in the game that has made me completely turn it off.. with hardly no chance trying to repair or leave the area and keep your boat afloat is extremely way too difficult and most the time impossible due to the ship sinking before you're able to respond or even get out of the area. And the majority of the time, after your loot has sunk at the Outpost, it will spawn next to an island with an active volcano and sink immediately before you can even get to it.I've never quit because of thieves boarding and getting my loot or because of losing to the kraken or even a shark but as mostly a solo player volcanoes have pretty much made me lose enthusiasm because its extremely upsetting when you barely even have a chance to do anything around them if they go off this makes me quit and turn it off...

As long as I don't ignore the rumbling and smoke, I'm fine in lava-land, might get some holes or burns but not enough to sink.

  • @lord-of-wiping as a primarily solo player myself, I wholeheartedly disagree. This is what makes the Devil's Roar, a more difficult to navigate region, more difficult to navigate. It is the whole point.

Rather than letting it get to you, I suggest you utilize the tools provided to overcome this obstacle. One suggestion I have for would be to park your ship out of range, and then use your cannons and/or rowboat to access the area you are trying to reach.

Alternatively, you can sail up to the island and learn the telltale signs that the volcano is about to erupt. Firstly, direct your ship away from the island for a speedy escape and don't drop your anchor. If the ground is shaking, keep an eye on the volcano, it may be about to erupt. When smoke starts pouring out, run to your ship, board, and drop full sails right away. You should be able to sail away with minimal damage if any at all. If you've still concerned, hang out below deck until you can see that the ash is no longer falling on deck. This means you're out of range.

No need to adjust the difficulty of an area meant to be more of a challenge. Just adapt to it's challenges.

    Happy sailing.

  • @badrobott Dido! I too sail mostly solo and agree with your sentiment.

  • I do a ton of soloing out in the Devil's Roar. Here are some tips:

    1. Do not anchor your boat when you park it. Yes, if an earthquake starts, it will push your boat a little farther out to sea, but this is better than trying to raise the anchor while getting pummeled by flaming rocks.

    2. When you park, point the nose of your boat away from the island. You'll thank yourself later. That way you just have to drop your sails and go rather than turning the boat around while while getting pummeled by flaming rocks.

    3. When the island starts to rumble, drop what you are doing (if you are solo) and head to the ship. That way you have time to drop sails if the shaking leads to an eruption. If you are playing with others, one person can stay on the ship to keep an eye on things.

    4. Once you drop sails and you are pointed towards open waters (see tip #2), STAY BELOW deck for a while. That way, if your ship takes a hit, you stay alive to repair it. A lot of water can flood in while you are on the Ferry of the Damned. Stay alive and you'll keep the boat afloat.

    5. When an island is erupting, stay farther away than you think you should. Those flaming rocks travel much farther than would be expected. If you are still in the strike zone then you will see small embers falling around you as you look back at the island. You'll know you are safe when the embers are gone.

EDIT: Also, before you head out to the Roar, stock up on planks. 15 planks is just not going to cut it. And stop putting gunpowder kegs in the captain's quarters or on the deck. I'm seeing a lot of newer players doing this lately. Is there a streamer or content creator teaching people to store gun powder in these terrible spots? Put it in the crow's nest. Yes, a lava rock may hit it, but your ship won't get destroyed by the explosion.

Don't worry. You can take other people's suggestions if you want to keep trying, but you don't have to go into the extra hard area if you don't want to. That's why you never spawn inside of it.

  • valcanoes are not meant to be friendly and weak....

just don't go there alone if you can't deal with them.

  • The only thing I dislike about the DR is the 15 minute wait times for volcanos to simmer down.

  • It's not like they are everywhere on the map. Just don't go to the Roar. The Shores of Plenty are waiting for you, mate
