Is there any word on the ability to disable crossplay? Hoping it comes with the anniversary update. Sick of the advantage PC players have.
Disable crossplay?
@grilledcheese10 They mentioned something about it on a dev blog. How they will implement it or when, I have no idea.
@grilledcheese10 PC doesn't have all that much of an advantage. [mod edited] PC players are a small portion of the player base. Just because you died doesn't make the other player a PC player. ON the off chance they were a PC player well not all PC players are good, [mod edited]

@grilledcheese10 PC doesn't have all that much of an advantage. You just need to get better. PC players are a small portion of the player base. Just because you died doesn't make the other player a PC player. ON the off chance they were a PC player well not all PC players are good, you could just be bad and got out played.
As a PC player myself, we definitely get a massive advantage. I can't remember the last time I was sunk or stolen from. Sure your crew matters and there isn't a real advantage in regards to naval warfare. However close up with guns and swords, it's a joke really. I also find it funny that you say I want the game to be easier within another post, yet you think it's fair as a PC player to slaughter the large population of console players that are forced to play with you, despite having a disadvantage.

My crewmates are console players. They take out crews all the time by themselves, even against PC players. If combat for this game was majorly focused on islands, then yes I would agree PC has an advantage. However, we are on boats with tight corridors. Players are still trying to play FPS shooters while defending their boat when that is not the correct way to do things.
Ask anyone who plays on console and they will tell you that when you defend your boat there are things you have to know and learn.
Majority of the PvE Players that complain about the supposed magical advantage PC players have don't bother learning how to PvP AT ALL. They don't bother learning anything. There are console players out there that say that they have no problem taking out PC crews. My 3 different console crews are part of those.
So if some console players do it on the regular basis while others complain all the time, the problem is that the ones who are complaining just need to learn how to play the game correctly.
SIDE NOTE I have a controller. I learned how to play on it and focused on PvP for a week or 2. It took a few hours to get the finer details and mechanics down but I had no problem afterwards killing PC players. Learn, adapt, get better.
If doing something doesn't work, try a different strategy. I'm tired of people who complain that never want to learn how to play differently.
SIDE NOTE 2 You do want the game to be easier, also your point against me made no sense. Me disagreeing with this guy about the made up advantages he thinks PC has, has nothing to do with your request that the game handle your issues for you instead of you figuring out how to overcome it. Aka - you asking the game to be easier.

My crewmates are console players.Lol, I rest my case. Golden response.
You're the PC player and most of the other players are console players, even your crew. Yet you go around and telling people that they're bad. You're also afraid of anything being slightly easier, because you're already playing easy mode as PC player. I can't wait till I get thrown into games with my own peers, oh boy it'll be fun. Also if you actually read any of my posts on the forums, I generally like things to be more in-depth and challenging.

@cardshark-360 ?? Wasnt that phrase you moded says to "get better"?? How is get better something that needs to be modded? But okay.
@Trenix90 ?? You might want to fix your wording because I don't think you meant to say "You're also afraid of anything being slightly easier" means that I like things being difficult which means you want things to be easier?
Or did you mean to say "You're also afraid of anything being slightly harder?" One way you make my argument so I'm thinking you just mispoke but I'm just confirming.
I don't understand your "golden response". Cause the rest of my crew is console players you won some hypothetical argument?? I am honestly confused. I pointed out that my crew goes off because I stay on the boat since I'm the captain and I'm at the wheel. My crew are the ones who shoot off and sink ships. They fight PC players too and guess what, none of the people I've played with complain about PC players.
So again you make no sense. So either clarify if you mispoke because if not, then you are just proving my point that you want things to be easier.
The advantage is negligible, I've sunk countless PC players, and I've sunk countless console players, I rarely lose a fight, and I rarely get stuff stolen from me, if anything, the PC players are easier to deal with because more often than not, they have their head so far up their own rear that they forget the fundamentals of sailing and combat, of course that's not all of them, just most I've encountered
@grilledcheese10
I can't wait either :)
Unfortunately they said it would not be ready till after the 30th.For the PC players who don't understand:
As a console player i've killed, PC and controller users easily and while PC does have a huge advantage in performance, that's not the primary reason why so many console players want optional crossplay. It all comes to one group of people: PC Hackers. Console players are tired of the people teleporting, being unkillable, etc. The PC cheater group is what ruined it for all PC players. If you have a problem with Rare implementing an optional crossplay, then blame the right group for ruining it for everyone. I support the optional crossplay since a lot of players would return and there will be plenty of console players that have the option still on to make crews with PC players. Also, the change isn't between CONSOLE and PC, it's between KEYBOARD & MOUSE and CONTROLLER; as said in the dev video.@grilledcheese10 said in Disable crossplay?:

As a PC player, I won’t deny the fact that we have TECHNICALLY an advantage. However, just because we do have an advantage doesn’t mean every PC player is going to continually beat every console player. Honestly the PC player excuse is getting old, while it may be true that occasionally a PC player will win due to the advantage they have, the majority of the time a person’s loss is due to their skill level, not their platform. How do you know you are loosing to PC players? Did you go up and ask every single person you have lost to? At this point you are just using the “PC player” excuse as a way to avoid facing your own ineptitude, in fact most people are. It’s time people stop hiding behind the “PC players” excuse and start to face reality, losses are your own fault the majority of the time.
I always thought this was silly anyway.
As @Xultanis-Dragon said, Sea of Thieves combat is not a land based shooter, we're also talking about ship combat, in which PC players are pretty much on equal footing with controller users. The different dimensions and variables in this game that can turn the tides in battle really defuse any advantage, real or perceived, that PC players might have.
Some of these "advantages" are just fabricated by sore-loser console players, like saying that us PC players have Godly advantages such as being able to jump and make a 180 degree turn in half a second to land a shot on whatever's behind us. This just isn't the case for 99.9% PC players. You're assuming every M&KB player is proficient enough to do stuff like this, when most of them are not.
Now for the actual answer to your question - I believe they said they'd get the option into Insider testing in late May, specifically for The Arena first, and The Adventure option will come some point later than that. I'm personally hoping they cancel it for Adventure.
The old "one bad apple spoils the bunch" mentality, eh?
Phew, yeah that 0.001% of players who are cheating really made an impact. Can't go a single session without running into those cheaters!
Oh yeah, I forgot. All PC players cheat, I guess all they have to do is press their magic "cheats" button on their keyboard whenever we boot up the game. They all have the ability to teleport to other ships on command, must end cross play!
(heavy sarcasm here)

I always wonder how to know on what hardware someone plays.
Yeah i cant see it who plays on what device? Some can type so they have keys or keypad so i still cant tell.. some players are fast in moving i cant fight them i dunno but in shipbattle i can hit and wreck them completely so i just need to avoid melee or scuttle.
My Roomate got called a hacker on Sunday because I was able to maneuver the boat for optimal shots. They were like, "they weren't hitting us before and how they're shooting lasers, way to click on the aimbot"
I just attribute it to the fact that I killed him while he was fighting a meg and a skelly ship and took like 10 chests from him. When he came back he was extra salty. But I just laugh when people call us hackers and remind them to kindly report us. As long as we don't say anything bad over the mic nothing will happen.
Though I try to never say anything toxic to players. As a wise hockey player once said, "Is just game, why you have to be mad?"
@bugaboo-bill said in Disable crossplay?:

The way most console players who complain about PC players and demand opt out of cross play tell is they lost a fight. Without the ability to be a good sport, anytime they lose they call the person a PC player and/or usually a cheater.
When we play and beat someone we are cussed and accused of being cheaters 99.99% of the time. Been that way since launch and only has gotten worse. Losing players demand what platform we are playing on. Several times now members of the losing crew swear they are going to do things to our sisters, mother, and grandmothers.
The people who covet PvP in this game are some of the most nasty, foulest sore losers we have ever seen in any game. They just cannot stand losing. Their ego has no room for enjoying a game no matter if they win or lose. They do not know how to share the open world and respect other players.
My spouse and I are sick of running into all the toxic players. The upcoming changes favoring and encouraging PvP, and tipping advantage to crew size is just going to make the game worse. We are waiting to see what happens when the update drops, but seriously doubt it will not just become a bigger cesspool. Do not believe in Rare anymore or trust them to make the game great as it should be and respect all types of players.
I crewed up with 3 Xbox players on Discord once. We were doing an Athena. I Have always been really good at Gold Hoarders, so I knocked out all of the chest maps super quickly without much effort.
They asked if I was on PC, I said yes. They all accused me of hacking, using chest ESP. I told them "No, I'm just pretty good at finding the chests" but they continued to insist that I was hacking because they always have trouble with finding chests and I'm on PC doing it easily.
Console players in this community have a habit of blaming everything but themselves when they get bested. "If someone does something better than I do, they must be hacking"
They say they're frustrated because they're losing to "PC advantage", I'd say it's even MORE frustrating to be a part of a community that accuses you of being a hacker and questions your integrity just because you play on PC and/or you're good at the game.
@chronodusk I know the feeling, because I love riddles and X maps and I speed through them constantly.
When I get into a pvp setting I'm usually the one maneuvering the ship and defending against boarders. I only really play solo, or two on a sloop or brig.
I've been accused of hacking because I knew they were coming up the ladder so I sit at the top with a blunder to one shot. Like, audio cues are a thing and I can be assured if people pay attention in this game there is never an issue.

It's the popularity and players that are to blame.
You are right it's also those who loose in pvp who are toxic.
But also some aggressors are very much jerks and toxic. The original post was simply asking about when the opt out feature would be available. There was no suggestion of wanting to debate the differences in platform, just a request about a release date. @deckhands there is a megathread for giving input on the crossplay debate, and this isnt it! All the players that are still angry about Rare's decision to give xboxers what they have been asking for should stop trying to derail this thread, stop trying to turn this thread into an echo chamber, and be directed to the appropriate thread.
Again, this is a request for some information, not a crossplay debate thread.

Ahoy there, as mentioned in the Dev update video of 28th March, the option for console players using a controller to opt out of crossplay has been delayed and won't make it into the game for the April 30th Mega Update.
Work is ongoing but it's proving a little more complex than Rare anticipated, they're hoping to bring the option as soon as possible after end of April.
At 3:25 ish -

As your question has been answered and we have a Mega thread set up for discussion of crossplay here I'll close this one down now.
