Sea of Thieves/XBox Microphone issue

  • Ahoy!
So for the past year I could not use my microphone in Sea of Thieves to speak to people nor could I hear what they were talking. To fix this I serched quite a lot through websites promising a solution. In the end I tried most of it yet nothing worked. The fact of the matter is that in my XBox settings under XBox Multiplayer it says "Teredo is unable to qualify." which then disables the usage of microphones and blocks receiving of audio as well.

Thank you for your time and answers in advance.

  • @xjust-infinite It is something in your router settings, I think I had similar issues a few years ago when I switched out my router and it affected voice on some games and overall online play in others. Once I changed the settings on the router, everything worked as it should. Unfortunately I can't remember exactly where to look for it, surely someone else will chime in with more detailed help. But that gives you somewhere to start.

  • @xjust-infinite Ahoy!

I'm by no means an expert, but had the same issue for months. Some questions to isolate the issue. The first two are normally the main issue:

    1. Is your NAT type "open"? Check under network settings to see the NAT type.

    2. Have you enabled Adult (or custom) privacy settings in your MS and Xbox account?

    3. Is the problem in both party and game chat?

    4. What router are you using? It is possible that your router VOIP settings make it impossible - I was using a speedport 2 but after switching have had a far easier time of it.

Hope it works out! I still can't talk in game chat if I've been in party chat first :/

  • Thank you all for your suggestions I finally fixed the issue.
I opened Powershell as an admin typed "reg query HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\iphlpsvc\Teredo" to see which "Type REG_DWORD" I had (it was 0x7). Then I changed it to default by using the command "netsh interface Teredo set state type=default" (The "Type REG_DWORD" was then gone) and after that I used "netsh interface teredo set state type=enterpriseclient" to change the state again which was then "Type REG_DWORD 0x6" which fixed it. :D

Maybe people with the same issue find a solution here if not keep trying :3
