Some small things that would greatly improve the overall player experience in my opinion

  • Hey everyone!

    I'm MrDeltt and I've been playing since release, mostly on 4 player galleons but also some solo slooping.

    Although I'm very much enjoying the game how it is in its current state and can't wait for whats in stock for the mega-update, there are some small things that cumulatively almost made me quit the game entirely several times.

    These are very minor things that could be very easily fixed and without changing any core systems to risk introducing new bugs (at least from my knowledge of programming/game design, which is nowhere near professional but still considerable imo).

    Let my state these things, why they're bad and how they can be fixed:

    • Hitmarker.
      This should be obvious, but let me say it anyway. The feature as it is right now is absolutely pointless as it is not reliable at all. I've shot/killed people without getting any hitmarker from my gun and got a hitmarker 4 times i sniped a guy without him eating a banana in between. I can absolutely not imagine how it could be any difficult to trigger a hitmarker based on the event that the enemy player loses health, something like:

    if(PlayerXgotHit())
    PlayerXhealth -= damage;
    PlayerY.triggerHitmarker;

    I am very certain that we all wouldn't mind waiting some more milliseconds for the server to forward the information necessary, if it makes it reliable. Having a hitmarker or not is literally the most important information to make combat decisions on.

    • PVP-killed Ships Spawn Location.
      We had this before and it got improved, correct. But in my opinion losing a ship fight should mean that you lost your loot to your killer, and not spawn him 1 or 2 islands nearby, especially not if you are outnumbered but still manage to win. Yesterday i was just throwing myself at a galleon that was doing wanderer, and after dying 4 times and spawning on a nearby island every single time i eventually sunk them. That shouldn't be. I did not deserve that many tries to sink them in such short amount of time. This may sound a bit harsh, but in my opinion, ships you sink should spawn at the very location that is furthest from you, regardless of any other ships on the map (which i believe is a factor right now, but I'm not sure).

    • Respawning at the location your ship sunk after it's beyond saving shouldn't be a thing.
      Basically because of the thing i said earlier. You sinking should mean you're done, at least for a while, and not giving you a last chance of taking the already established "winner" with you to the bottom of the sea.

    • Kraken spawns 50 meter away/30 seconds after you left from outpost you just spawned at shouldn't be a thing.
      This is just takes any and all fear, respect and the whole "role" the kraken has away and turns it into a bad joke. Maybe that's just a roleplayer speaking, or someone who values immersion as much as i do.

    • The notorious skeleton gunshot aim.
      Yeah, you all know what I am talking about. Not only do they have about 90% accuracy on no matter what range, but they tend to shoot through walls quiet a lot as well. I can't think of how they're programmed to behave like this, but to me it seems they do not use raycasts, which to my knowledge is the "proper" way of programming gunshots/hit registration. If you don't know about raycasts, it's a technique which can be used to determine if there is a clear line of sight between to player/objects or not.

    • No re-gripping ladders after you got knocked off.
      This is more of a healthy balancing thing. But having someone on your ladder, cutting/shooting him off to only see him grip it mid-air again is just tedious in my opinion. There should be a delay for re-gripping.

    • Barrels on the crows nest shouldn't explode if you shoot them from below through the crows nest "ground".
      That's self explanatory and obviously, i believe.

    All of these changes are mostly PVP-related since that is my main motivation to play this game. Besides minor things, i consider the PVE in a very good state.

    I would love to hear you guys opinion on these things!
