Using Xbox Live voice chat limits your interaction and fun in Sea of Thieves

  • With the speaker trumpet added to the game it just shows again that especially Xbox users using private Xbox Live voice chat should consider stopp using it.

Because when you do you mute every other player in the game. So no interaction at all via voice be it in close range or long via the speaking trumpet. You are limiting your interaction and fun in Sea of Thieves.

On PC with people using Discord etc they can use push to talk and still speak and hear other players.

This is not the case on Xbox. And it's a problem. Either people need to consider stopping using Xbox Live chat. Or Rare need to do something.

  • If there was a push to talk or Team Only chat button, I'm sure the amount of people using vc would increase significantly. Unfortunately using VC is a competitive disadvantage on xbox. You have no way of privately communicating to your team, so if I say something like "I'm going to try to board them" to my teammates, well now the enemy knows too. On PC like you said you can use private chat apps, but still switch to game chat whenever, so you get the best of both. On xbox you have to navigate the menu to switch between party and game chat, and that just takes too much time in the heat of battle so players decide to just stay in party chat.

I try to use VC as often as I can, but majority of xbox people just want to party chat. I feel like if there was a way to seamlessly switch between team and public chat, people would use vc more.

  • @binaryplayerone they should make it so you can hear in-game chat whilst in the party.

yes I know it gives the ones in the party a small advantage at first, but it also motivates them to go to the game chat.

When I see people in the game chat I always join them, but their alot of crews who won't. Yesterday I joined a crew who were all mutes and we were battling the meg... all was fine until I had to communicate to them that we have no planks and need to transfer as many cannon balls and bananas off our boat as one can before sinking.

it all ended up so that they sunk, I made it back and killed it with my crewmate. Their loss, but it could have been avoided if they had bothered to use the chat.

  • Yeah it can be an advantage for Xbox players. But I also think they are missing out on some fun by doing it. I hope Rare have a plan for this.

Would love the option to use game chat. Only it 1. Doesn't work at all for no apparent reason or 2. The quality is so low you can hardly hear someone.

I've read others say that to. And I find that strange as I only use the ingame voice chat. And sure it's not as clear as Discord or Xbox Live chat. But it's more then good enough. But keep in mind it's proximity sound (that's why it's so cool).

Did the Hungering Deep event with two galleons filled with people and everyone was using the ingame voice chat. And it was fantastic!

But I wonder why some say the quality is so bad?

Why some say it's bad? Like I mentioned, 9/10 times it simply doesn't work at all for me. On the rare occasion that it does, it sounds like people are whispering over cheap mikes in their bathrooms.

Compare this to partychat: good audio, no range limit, can talk while loading, can not be heard by enemies.

  • XBOX needs keyboard world chat support as well combined with the ability to be in a private chat while still using push to talk like the PC players have access to. Would be a nice thing to have hopefully Rare implements this soon.

Strange. I play on both Xbox and PC and I've never had any issue with it. The low voice could be a proximity kicking in. And I think it should be like that. Everything else in the game is as "real" as you can get with hands on everything. So voice chat that's the same regardless of where others are is breaking the immersion in my opinion.

But it's also as mentioned cutting you out from allot of fun and game design.

EDIT: Your basically cutting off everyone else in a multiplayer game...

I have had no issues. That does not mean there are no issues for someone. But currently, it seems that it might be you :D
And it going quiet? its the proximity as so many have said before me.

Audio is good, its on bar with party chat(remember its MS servers and tech),
range - there is no range with your own crew(have you ever used it?)
Cannot be heard by enemies - I agree, but thats just lazy way of not having to be clever about things. And its not like they can hear you all over the map.
Talking while loading - that they have to add.

More like being cut off, because it's not working

  • @lucky-monkee you must be very lucky for it to work that well. Wish it did for me mate.

  • @mighty-ace123

Heard some complain about the sound quality. But not that it's not working. Working for plenty apparently as under the Hungering Deep event everyone is talking...

Tried support? Maybe it's a NAT issue?

Support says should be working. NAT is set up best as possible...

  • @binaryplayerone so many people use party chat I never have in SoT other people try to justify being in a party saying theyre competitively at a disadvantage.
News flash its not COD its not as simple as red vs blue, not everyones out to kill you. I play on pc with a controller that says enough right there.
It's not a competitive game at all, people talking about disadvantages just seem weak....
And yes thats meant to get a response, people in party chat kill the vibe of this game. I have a code never fire first and try to start a conversation, people in party have 1 option wait to see if they come close and fire. Sorry if this response sounds toxic but this is one of those things that genuinely bugs me

  • as an xbox player myself, I agree if there was some way to commicate in private like you can on PC I too would use VC more, however like stated by many this is not the case and we are forced into Xbox chats, so we don't give away tactics etc. we do try to switch between the two but we are still forced to use VC for our chats. if this is sorted im sure me and my team would switch

  • We just use game chat if we're being nice and party chat if we're not, sure it's fun to hear people beg for mercy, but then they'd hear your battle plan. I don't really see a problem with it, we get on just fine, sometimes we use the text chat whilst in party chat and just text negotiate with the opposition, that also works adequately.

  • This could be easily solved if you allowed xbox users to speak with their team privately and push to talk publicly and gave some kind is mute option for griefers. Some people are d****e bags and ruin it for everybody unless the game gives you the necessary tools to police it.

  • @iduskk You can use the same apps. There is nothing stopping you from getting discord on a smart phone or a computer. and using it separately from xbox.

  • Give us a push to talk option and we will.

  • @lucky-monkee that's how it works on PC in xbox app. When you're on PC and in xbox party, you can still hear people that use game chat. Kinda unfair.

  • Im on pc and I only use game chat, open mic, no push to talk just mute myself with my headset. So theres no excuse to be using party chat. You cant even hear enemy players until theyre on your boat or sailing right beside you, which is when they should hear your enemies battle plans for immersive purposes.
