Keep getting disconnected

  • I'm not sure if a similar post has been made before.

I'm enjoying the beta a lot so far, but I keep getting disconnected (Cyanbeard) quite frequently, and it's a hassle since I lose my current voyage and items in my inventory.

I checked my connection and everything is fine, I never had any sorts of issues and everything else is working properly.

Anyone who has a fix for this?

    Edit: I'm playing on PC

    Update:
Thanks to everyone who replied to this post, suggestions or just saying that they have the same or a similar issue.

I'm not fully sure yet if I fixed the issue, but I was able to play quite a bit without any crash so far, which is quite the improvement!

For others to try, I will post what I did.

I noticed, that in my Xbox app, (Settings - Network) as well as in Windows (Settings - Gaming - Xbox Networking) my NAT type was not shown and my connection was blocked.

So the first things I did was going into my router and opening the ports that are required for Xbox Live, you can find them on their website, or simply google "Xbox Live Ports". (Port Forwarding) If you don't know how to, check out some tutorial - text or video (doesn't matter). Portforward.com is also a good source and they explain it well.

Another thing you have to do while in your router, is taking off the Teredo filter (If you have it activated, I did). Simply look up how to do that in your router if you're not sure whether it's activated or not. Xbox needs it, so if your router blocks it the connection won't be good, if at all available.

After I did all that, I checked again. Now my NAT type said it was Moderate, and I had a connection. My ping went from about 170ms (in the app only) to around 20ms. Great.
I tried playing again, it worked for a whole voyage, I thought I fixed it. I tried again a few hours later - disconnected. (Twice in about 40min)

Desperate to fix it so I could fully enjoy this beta, I randomly went back to the windows settings (Settings - Gaming - Xbox Networking) and hit the "Fix It" button. I checked again, still moderate. So I hit it about two more times, and my NAT changed to open.

I tested around afterwards, and I didn't have a single disconnect so far, but I will update this in case it happens again!

If this helps any of you out there with a similar issue, then I'm glad that you can play!

Note: Also want to mention the answer of @Err404R "I face similar issue then I installed windows Fall creators update and finally can play the game without disconnects." - In case any of you guys don't have your windows up to date!

Update: Still getting disconnected for no reason.

  • @xmalvarr I have the same problem with the game. And the 2nd problem is that there is no option to reconnect or rejoin the last session after disconnected (Cyanbeard) .

But the internet connection and all other things are ok. So no idea what happen with this game... I hope we get some help soon.

  • d this 4 times last night (Xbox)- 3 times when I hit a chest with my spade (clunk) & once when I found a location described in a map clue (boat target range on Crescent Isle). Could have been a complete coincidence that they all were linked to a treasure/ clue action, but if it is a thing I hope mentioning it can flag it up...

  • Update: Even after checking my NAT and opening the proper ports for XBox Live I have the same issue and it's quite frustrating to be honest.

You can reconnect to friends via the XBox App on Windows 10, but you lose your stuff regardless of that.

  • I am having the exact same issue. Also on PC / Windows 10. Could not really pinpoint it to doing anything specific. NAT type is open too, and checking the Xbox Apps Network tab does not reveal any problems either.

  • I face similar issue then I installed windows Fall creators update and finally can play the game without disconnects.

Thanks for the suggestion, it might help someone with this issue.
I already have that update for a while, so for me the disconnects have another reason/cause it seems.

  • I have the same problem. All games are working fine, only SOT is loosing connection after 20-30 Minutes.
I play on Xbox and my NAT ist open.
Really annoying. Hope they can fix it.

    Ahoy there!

Check out @M3M3nto-Memes thread here, he seems to have fixed this issue for himself :)

Thanks a lot for the information! Unfortunately, I already did all the things he mentions and tried a few times, without success. Still having the disconnect issues.

  • Main post updated. /bump

  • hi, i've tryed all your tips . Windows is up to date , my NAT is open but i can't play for disconnection every 2-5 minutes...
    It's really frustrating...

  • @Kuunia
For me it's not as frequent, but it just happened again, so sadly I haven't fixed it myself either yet.

  • So to fix several issues with the Teredo adapter you have to follow these steps:

    1. Make sure your router doesn't block the connection
    2. execute the following command:
netsh interface ipv6 set teredo enterpriseclient
    3. disable the Teredo adapter with the following command:
netsh interface Teredo set state disabled
    4. activate teredo:
netsh interface Teredo set state default
    5. execute the following command again:
netsh interface ipv6 set teredo enterpriseclient

After this you should be able to obtain a stable connection
Note: This all has to be done on the command prompt running as an administrator
To see if it worked you can check it with
    netsh interface Teredo show state
There shouldn't be any errors anymore

  • same problem for me. My NAT type is open.
I tried the Teredo commands and the other fixes still every 20min disconnects.

  • and thats good guys - stress tests for testing issues like this

  • I'm having the same issue in the Open Beta.
I keep getting disconnected after 20-40 min (Cyanbeard).

I tried the fixes suggested in this thread, with no success.
Has anyone found a solution for this yet?

Also, is Rare aware of this issue? Is this related to scaling tests during the beta or an unrelated bug? Because this is game breaking, as longer voyages can't be completed.

  • I have the same problem.
Like Peregrine569 said: after 20-40 minutes (Cyanbeard)

The xbox app network setting shows NAT type Open and all connected and everything looks fine.

My friends are able to play fine, so it probably has something to do with my setup, my ISP (telekom de) or something. But I don't know what else I can do to find out what exactly happens there.

This changed my NAT strict 150 ms to NAT moderate and 43 ms. I will play a little bit to check if I can avoid Cyanbeard Pirate, the most OP sailor of the wild seas.

  • Keep getting disconnected

  • Hey Guys,

i think i made it :P .. i disconnected so many times til yesterday. and then it worked .. you simply have to deactivate the IPv6 connection and run on IPv4 only. now it works without any mistakes and disconnects on my PC and XBOX. seems the xbox live services have still huge problems with it. hope it will help some of you.. please tell me if it worked for you :)

    Happy sailing Pirates

  • Hey...

I was getting diconnects every 30 to 90min. btw I play on PC from germany. After checking my connectivity with XBOX Live (Settings - Network) I found that my NAT Type was "strict" and my Connection "blocked". So I tried the following:

    1. Teredo Filter (Fritz Box)
Disabled the Teredo Filter within my router (Fritz Box - Internet - Filter - uncheck box)
      Result: NAT: "medium", Connection: "connected"
Game: still keeps getting diconnects!!! (30 to 90min)

    2. Open Ports and Priorising
Opened all Ports for XBOX Live, which are:
      Port 88 (UDP)
      Port 3074 (UDP und TCP)
      Port 53 (UDP und TCP)
      Port 80 (TCP)
      Port 500 (UDP)
      Port 3544 (UDP)
      Port 4500 (UDP)
Therefor I went to: Internet - Filter - Lists ... and entered all of them also priorising my PC.
      Result: NAT: "open", Connection: "connected"
Game: still keeps getting diconnects!!! (60 to 90min, finally I can turn in loot when I am fast)

    3. Deactivate IPv6
Deactivated IPv6 in my Fritz Box by unchecking the Box at: Internet - Login Data - IPv6
      Result: NAT: "medium", Connection: "connected"
Game: getting no diconnects!!! (I was able to play 4h straight)
      W*F???

All my other multiplayer games work properly... and now MICROSOFT can´t get their game to work properly with standard settings??? I HAVE TO DEACTIVATE IPv6??? RLY???

  • @otaku1101 i have getting this problem alot lately, "(Your connection to Xbox Live has been lost. Please check your connection and try again.(Cyanbeard)".
so i tried your method but its still doesnt work, i just got into a game and after around 20 min i got kicked again by this problem (Cyanbeard). i tried alot of methods and still doesnt work, impossible to play the game like that. hope i will find a way to fix that otherways i would not play this game anymore..

  • @kone234 i know that f****** problem for years. first had it with my xbox .. but the box is able to get a proper connection with the "teredo filter tunneling"-thing. my pc is not ... just like yours and that of many others. don't know, why microsoft can't get it done, so the connection with a ipv6 is stable. it's just kind of rediculous .. no other platform has that problem.

    greetings

  • @kone234 disable ipv6 works for me very good !!!

  • @kone234 @Ixxpirate same here! but WHY?! pls, let IPv4 die...

  • disabling ipv6 doesnt work for me. I'm so tired of trying different solutions. why cant this game work like EVERY OTHER GAME EVER?
Ive lost probably 30-40k gold with this nonsense. and this is a $60 game? Please @Microsoft @Rare, tell us what needs to be set in order to not have issues.

  • I have this exact issue, I've tried everything listed here to fix it but it continues to happen. I play a lot of multiplayer PC games and this is the only one I have connectivity issues with.

  • I tried raising a support ticket, and they just told me what the error is, not how to fix it, but i have the same problem

  • I am also having this issue when playing this game

  • I'm getting the "Cyanbeard" DC message ALL the time now. Everything was fine until maybe up to 5 days ago and now I'll simply be lucky to get 45 mins in without it, could get it any time from 5-45 mins....constantly.
    Disabled IPv6...Nope.
Checked connectivity with Xbox app...Everything is strong and normal after the apparent "disconnect".

I'm just beyond fed up. Makes it unplayable. Get loot, loose loot, loose contracts....They need to unscrew whatever they have screwed up.

  • I'mm aswel expierencing these same issues. How do we draw attention to this problem?

  • @xmalvarr I also have the same issue and it keeps happening very frequent. For the first time ever my game crashed and I lost 4 gunpowder barrels, 1 wood crate, 1 captain's chest, 2 Marauder chests, 3 seafarers, 1 castaway, 3 crates of chicken and 1 pig. I know it's not much and other people have lost even more, so I did not get very upset, relaunched the game and kept playing thinking well the game is still very new, am gonna focus on having fun and hope that the developers are working on this. Then I got disconnected and my ship went flying. It was very rage inducing, as I had a lot of loot as well, but it all went quite literally flying...0_1524002872637_Capture.PNG (I had to use snipping tool because file was too big, but am sure you get the point)

  • @finnyaltrax alt text

  • @vulfey Same here used to be on occasion maybe once a day and now its 5-45 mins just like for you, completely random. I've tried almost everything and made a ticket with no response. just try bumping this threads in hopes of help. I'm playing on the trial right now and loving it but im a little hesitant to buy a game i can't play you feel me?
