Do people still accept/do alliances?

  • Hi, returning player here, I was genuinely curious as I am sure the player culture from when I was active (2022-2023) to now has changed. I was wondering if you've ever been in recently, or have accepted alliances-- or have flown the flag that dictates you are open to alliances. I've been flying it recently instead of my usual cosmetic flag as a social experiment (and in hopes of meeting some friendly pirates on the sea!)

So far, I have had one ship join my alliance in a server, but quickly leave it soon after... The rest are usually out to sink me as usual, though my sample size isn't very large yet.

  • Its always 50/50

I always keep mine up when I notice ships nearby myself and I dont accept but hope others accept mine.

Good to know! I'm curious, is there a reason you don't accept other ships alliances before offering your own?

  • @cutecoffins

Because I know what I will and wont do. Betray.
So if someone joins me, in my mind if they decide to betray I wont feel bad :P
I accept and expect to be betrayed by alliances, but I will never be the one to start it.

But I guess it more, If you want to be buddies, Join me.
Should also say, If they are already in an alliance and they "Ask" I will join the already established one.

    TL;DR
Preferences. To lazy to think about betraying, rather them join and leave me :P

    Indeed!

A friend of mine still needs to sink the Burning Blade a few more times while representing the Athena faction. The 3 of us launched brigs and checked servers, before we finally found one with 7 stacks. Instead of buying supplies and looting the outpost, he just raised anchor and took off towards it. We'd have to make our shots count as we collected what we could along the way.

We get near them, and open fire while my flex shoots out to see what we're dealing with, and how many are on it. It's a galleon crew, and they're experienced. We keep trying to sink them, but it quickly became clear we just didn't have enough supplies for this, so we pull out and head to the FotD that was up, for a sneak play.

As we sail over to the Arena tavern, we see another brig parked there. Did they have the same idea? They see us coming and drop sails. As we near the tavern, one of them calls out to us, asking if we wanted to alliance and go sink the Burning Blade with them? We allianced with them, and headed out together to sink the Burning Blade.

Each of us kept taking shots, keeping the BB between us. It had no breathing room with 2 brigs firing on it. They caught wind and sailed over to the Reaper Hideout with us chasing, tried to lower but couldn't with us there. They sailed back out, but couldn't avoid us. They sunk.

We let our sister ship take the sword (we couldn't have done it without them, and my friend just wanted the achievement), added them as friends, sailed over to the FotD, completed it, and turned in. The very thing we intended to do but couldn't, ended up happening out of the blue with awesome players.
