Does anyone bother with offshore loot?

  • Bit of a boring suggestion, wonder if rare has data to confirm. But how often are people gathering the loot you find around islands on the sea bed. Wondered if this might be an easy optimisation change to get rid of it.

I don't do as much pve these days but when I am isle hopping I rarely bother checking it's just if something catches my eye while swimming to boat etc.
It is a cool feature and in perfect world absolutely want it but with the way servers are. Just speaking from experience of me/my crew/ any lfgs I've interacted with I haven't noticed any bothering with that loot. I don't know if it would ease server pressure at all

  • As someone who doesn't do voyages and primarily sails around aimlessly - i pick up washed up loot all the time.
I can't imagine that the stress random shore loot puts on servers is high enough to warrant it's removal. It's miniscule at best.
Also i think random shore loot only gets spawned in when a player/ship is close enough to the island (that's why we can reset islands by being far away).

  • You be surprised how much more loot you collect if you stop at every island, pick up everthing that isnt part of your voyage.

  • If im at an island i always skim the outer shores unless im really hunting something specific down.

  • That random offshore loot sometimes is that little more you need for a 5 rank flag followed by a quick sell before leaving for another server.

  • @thor-von-blitz I don't mean washed up loot I mean if you dive offshore slightly you will find some loot under the water. This is my point, the stuff on surface absolutely easy harpoon

  • If I see it I pick it up, even underwater

  • @hiradc
    Same points apply.

When i see one, i go for it.
Their impact on performance is miniscule.

  • Now with LMinBottle i bother to stop near islands or shipwrecks.

  • I don't bother with it if it's low tier, unless it's for the same trading company I'm currently running emissary with just for the grade boost. I think it's probably geared more towards lower level players who need any and all loot more than an experience/high level player who can come by much more lucrative items on demand.

I doubt it has much of a performance impact, if any, since it's a static item that isn't affected by physics. It's an item type with an X,Y,Z position.

  • @hiradc
I grab every treasure I see! I even used the motto “no loot left behind” before it was introduced in-game with guilds.
    Gold is gold!

  • @hiradc I love shinies

  • I did a lot of it it during my gold making days. 1 specific reason, always trying to get that flag to grade 5 before turn in. That was a big part of my organic experience for a while lol. Before and during emissaries I'd pick up anything I'd see. I was never too good for anything organically (which I get to benefit from now)

I went on a long hunt for a box of secrets once (RIP secret hunts) where I wanted to find one either underwater or in a shipwreck but never found one underwater. That gave me a LOT of experience with underwater treasure in the roar.

I did so much of it that I'm glad I did it but I'm also content with not doing it anymore.

As a solo in organic play it's always exciting to search for that one piece of loot to hit max emissary. Swimming around the islands when there is nothing left to pick up on land.
