Safer Seas FAQ

  • @makigamer5000 The lights for the Fort of The Damned are not all obtainable due to being single-crew servers (no light for dying to PvP) and the absence of the Skull of Destiny.

  • @makigamer5000 For the FotD you either need a pink flame (impossible, since there is no enemy crew around) or a skull of destiny voyages (impossible, because it's an Athena's Fortune voyage). So even if they wouldn't have completely deactivate it and you could light the beacons, you wouldn't even be able to start it since you will never be able to light them all.

On top of that: the FotD and FoF are the world events where a lot of people tend to fight over, while the rest are often left alone. A last reason is that those two events have a lot of athena and reaper loot. Having to remove all that loot from the vaults also give new players a wrong idea of the loot you are supposed to get from them.

  • @lasky6313 said in Safer Seas FAQ:

@bloodybil why are you against this? if someone don't want to fight in higher seas he will just run for 40 min and waste your time in the process while if that same player can play a different mode based on how he feels about fighting, everyone in the high seas will be just ready to pvp isn't that a better solution?

i read the FAQ sir i'm just suggesting something different cause 30% it's not worth and i know it's a tutorial sandbox i just want it to be better.. also if you take a storage crate which is 5k (in both safer and high seas) how many chests you need to sell in order to get that money back? 16 (assuming each chest is worth 300 (1000 in higher seas)).. how a new player supposed to learn the game if every time he logs in the supplies cost more than what he makes in his whole play session?

All I am saying is that it makes sense that the reward scales with the risk, I don't understand what's unreasonable in this. You can play for however long you like without any serious risk to lose any loot, seems perfectly balanced.

Loot is already so plentiful, you will be able to stop at literally every single wreck, floating debris, and empty every island on your path and complete every available voyage at your disposal without having to worry about losing any of it. You will have a 100% rate of cashing in every session. What more can you possibly want?

I will be looking forward to play both mode depending on how I feel, and accept the fair balance, pros and cons that come with them.

  • @girthrockwel At the end of the day, this kind of mindset is the what’s wrong with this game. You’re asking for the game to be changed so much from what its concept is. It was always shown as an open world sandbox where players interact and potentially steal hence the word thieves in the title. Take that away and it’s just Sea of grind. Honestly they will kill the game quicker because these people will grind out pve servers complete everything then leave the game

  • Will Seasonal Renown be reduced to 30% and is there a level cap on seasonal levels?

If it's not I'd like this not to be a suggestion lol

It was already answered in the original post:
How do Season Rewards and the Plunder Pass work in Safer Seas?

Seasonal Renown is earned at 100% Value in both Safer Seas and High Seas.

Any progress towards Seasonal Rewards is shared between High Seas and Safer Seas.

Any currency you earn as a Seasonal Reward or Plunder Pass Reward will be earned at 100% Value, regardless of if you are in Safer Seas or High Seas.

There are some Trials that you cannot complete on Safer Seas due to the features they relate to being unavailable in Safer Seas.

  • God forbid you add a mode where people can sail the seas with 3 of their friends and have fun without needing to worry about some sweaty crew flying reapers attacking anything that moves or camping players doing the final stage of Athena's voyages.

  • @super87ghost

I should have reread The faq first lol.

  • The one thing I'd want to see reconsidered is the 1 crew, 1 ship restriction.
I'd LOVE to be able to sail the safer seas with maybe 2 or 3 ships for no other reason other than to hold a bootleg "higher seas" with a group of close friends. I don't care for any of the restriction placed on me because of that.

You could restrict the number of ships to 3, or the number of players to... say 9, or possibly 10.

  • @thecr0ssley Then you would have half the ships on the servers. The solo ships would be greatly outnumbered then. It gives a huge unfair advantage and could be exploited by griefers who just want to stomp others.

  • @triheadedmonkey i disagree that it would be pointless, without sovereign being available due to lack of captain ships, selling at reapers would be much more efficient than to each individual emissary much like before sovereign existed

  • @super87ghost
I don't think you understand or maybe I'm just bad at explaining

Random players aren't added to your safer seas, you invite your own friends to your own Safer Seas. A solo slooper can just ignore the whole "Inviting friends" part if they want and sail alone. No one has the ability to join your Seas unless you invite them yourself. Kinda like how the Guilds work.

  • @thecr0ssley Then i indeed understood wrong.

  • I look forward to the Safer Seas. I don't play much right now. I am mainly a solo player in games I like sailing but do not have any interest in pvp ever. Will forever be on safer seas! It is nice to see I can still do the missions I try to do when I do play! Thank you for list.

  • @starbrightnight When it comes out? cause i thought it came with season 10, but is not there

  • @mgbeares It's been stated numerous times that Safer Seas will launch in December.

  • Will it be possible to invite a friend to Mari Sicuri without being in the same boat? It would be a good way to have some friendly combat without worrying about anything

  • @slp-channel No, Safer Seas are Single crew only.

  • @bloodybil Talk about BS.. people like me that have autism and OCPD get punished. I hate people. I hate the fact that I can't enjoy the game solo and just relax. So why should I be punished because I have a disorder?

You are not being punished, you are taking less risk and getting less rewards. I would think you would be happy.

  • So reading the FAQ here, it just comes off to me as one great big long list: No fun allowed unless you want PvP.
Is making a PvE only sever so hard? how about a roleplay server?
I understand that there should be some limits on the safer seas, but to gut the game, and hamstring everything...

The point is to encourage players to do more, yet the only real benfit I see here is that you can do the Tall Tales and not be hastled.

  • I don't suppose safer seas will give those of us who want to mess around with multiple crews worth of friends the ability to do so? I'm assuming not, given that it doesn't even seem to be a consideration.

  • @blzofozz92 That would implie that you can only invite friends, and that would implie alliance severs, and that's not the intention of the developers, if I'm informed correctly.

  • @blackbeard-r It definitely is.

  • @lady-paige9049 Apparently not, because its been suggested to high heaven and the response has either been no reply, or "Single Crew, Single Ship"

Hi yes I would like to shoot my friends in private please could we get the ability to invite additional ships? Surely that can't be too hard. FOTD can't be done regardless because the Ritual Skull isn't available.

ON TOP OF THAT, It would solve the "Roleplay Server" suggestions or "Minigame Server" suggestions or even the "Bring back Arena" because then you can make your own servers for these!

  • @miri5329 Then disable alliancing, or have it so gold/rep can't be shared through an alliance.

And besides that's still a moot point isn't it? As it's not going to affect people making alliance servers on the High Sea any less.

  • @destmor Disagree.
Safer seas should keep being separate, not just for beginner players but for anyone who doesn't want to deal with PVP [mod edit]. There shouldn't be a cap of reputation at all as well (maybe make it slower while in there instead), short of the Athena and Reapers, there is no need of players fighting each other just to level up! (aside from gold hoarders). I am almost sure there will be more people plying Safer seas than regular ones just for the PVE and most likely it will cause Rare to reconsider not dividing in the first place. There aren't many PVP only games in the market for a reason.

  • @look-behind-you Sorry, my mean is Voyage's Grade. For example, the Gold hoarder's Voyage Treasure Vault, the higher grade of voyage will give you high change to get Gold Vault Key. Is it will be limited in safer sea.

  • A question for anyone who knows: Now that there is a single player mode with private servers where you can play solo, if you leave a tell tales quest in the middle and then come back, do you have to re-travel all the way back to that quest or does it put you back exactly at the checkpoint where you were once you load your save?
I was in the middle of a pirates of the Caribbean quest where you travel far under the sea and a bug forced me to restart the game, making me have to travel a long way again to that quest. Is this better now is safer seas or is there a fast travel option?

It works the same way as the current game. Each time you login, your ship starts fresh. If you've reached a checkpoint, you can start from the checkpoint at your voyage table but you'll still have to sail over to that point in the tale.

  • I see, thanks. That's a bit of a turn off, it takes far too long to sail to the quest, at least when it happened to me, it was over 30 minutes which is just too much.

  • Out of curiosity, if the Statistics prove that there is in fact a large interest in Safer Seas, Will some of these restrictions be eased off? Like, for example, allowing Captained Ships (or at least, the cosmetic aspects, with disabled milestones) and maybe reducing the renown/gold gain reduction to an even 50%? This is still much more generous than I had hoped for certainly, but I still feel like the restrictions are overly heavy handed to appease the people loudly complaining under various justifications that mostly boil down to "I don't want the majority of my PVP experiences to be against equally skilled or enthusiastic PVPers, I want to prey on people unskilled or uninterested in PVP for easy XP, Loot and Validation."

And for everyone who wants to jump on me about the "Core Experience" and "It's a Pirate Game, it's called 'Sea of Thieves', of course PVP is a central aspect", I'd certainly have agreed at launch, when the game was (aha) Bare Bones and PVP was pretty much the only thing it had going. But now, with all the world events, locations, the Tall Tales and the very fact they're adding Safer Seas at all proves that there's plenty of people who just want to experience a beautiful, well designed sailing game (Which is also, it bears pointing out, the only one of its kind on the market). Exploring, solving riddles, gathering booty, fighting skeletons and sea monsters , WITHOUT constantly looking over their shoulders for people bent on getting their fun at the expense of someone else's. If people like PVP, more power to them, but let them play with people who like it just as much as they do. Let the people who just want to sail around with their friends having a "pleasure cruise" do so unbothered. let the solos roam around without worrying about getting ganked by a 4 crew. Let the people who can't devote all of their time to mastering the game spend an hour or two relaxing on the waves without some Rank 5 Reapers sinking their ship just cause. and don't needlessly punish them for doing it.

And everyone who's saying it'd be too easy/boring without the PVP, ok? Don't play the PVE mode? Safer Seas doesn't hurt High Seas in any way bar decreasing the Griefer's potential victim pool, which doesn't strike me as a bad thing. There's no "Gameplay Effecting" progression so it's not like people can farm up levels and gold for end game weapons or upgrades in Safer Seas to get an unfair advantage on the High Seas players. End of the day, it's a game, it's about having fun, however each player wants to have fun. and if you prioritize the people who get theirs at the expense of others, you end up with "The Mordhau Effect" where the game slowly dies as the veteran/elite players drive everyone else off and immediately turn away new players by crushing them again and again.

  • @albert-jester Renown is already at 100% when Safer Seas comes out ;-)

And most of the restrictions are things that are intended to have PvP or have a very high chance of PvP, so the current restrictions seems completely fair to me.

The only thing they perhaps could add later on (but i doubt it) is the ability to sail on a captained ship on Safer Seas (without the ability to gain Guild reputation).
