I had this problem before, but now since patch its unplayable.
Game is freezing while black screening after death, when i skip intro cinematic, or randomly while sailing.
ITs annoying AF, my 2 teammates had to alt f4 right after we engaged in combat, because their game froze during raising sails.
It freezed and crashed without any error or anything.
Updated windows, graphic drivers, game is allowed to run in background.
No idea what to do.
I only played about an hour last night. I sailed up to a shipwreck and sword lunged into the water when my screen briefly froze, heard a repeating sound error and then crashed to desktop. Decided it wasn't worth the headache to play solo after I had just stocked my ship so I logged for the night.
I was hoping it was just a fluke but your post doesn't give me hope.
Same thing happened to me this morning. I am on Xbox one x. Was over an hour in to my dark relics quest and was turning in loot on the way to he final island. Game froze and got repeating sound, then it auto quit out to home. I was furious. A total waste of time. Hope this is not a reoccurring issue.
Still happen to me, this time when i went into game menu, game froze and crashed.
Can't imagine playing solo, atleast i can join back to someone, still have to keep my pockets empty ( lost 5x megalodon meat coz freeze)
Also when it crashes and i restart game, i get freeze at finding crew ledger screen
Yesterday, I played for hours and i had 0 problems, and today, i make microsoft's update (version 1903 64 bit KB4512508), and since this sometimes my game freeze and crash. I just have this

@grindtony45 anytime a program crashes it always gives an error, however sometimes it didnt display to the user.
In the windows event log you can see what error occured and even though thats mostly only useable for devs it might give you a hint on what went wrong
Also stuff like this is best reported with a support ticket Rare doesnt really collate bugs from the forums.

after the last update the game frees me after about twenty minutes forcing me to a forced closure and restart also happens to other players but with less frequency.
What could it be?
at the same time as well as restarting sea or thieves I have to restart xbox companion consol because it doesn't let me see who is in the game and then join them.
It is the first time that I get errors from the game never had problems before but it has become unplayable

Ive noticed if I go to menu the game crashes often.
Myself I seem to get FPS drops randomly on some of the quests im doing for the new cursed journeys.
I've experienced multiple freezes/crashes, 10 total at this point.
One freeze into a crash was right when a crewmate fired a cannon shot during a Meg fight. Another happened when an Island loaded in (It was an outpost, can't remember which) while I was holding the wheel of a Galleon. I've died 9 times ever since the update came out, guess how many times I actually got to the ferry of the damned? Once. I've crashed or gotten the loading wheel cog in the bottom right into an infinite load 8 times.
As a primarily solo player due to crewmates not playing as often - this update is really disappointing. I was looking forward to the new content but I cannot play as a slooper if I have to restart the game every time I die or at completely random times. Just not worth it. I really hope people are submitting tickets or this post and/or other posts are getting traction, because this is a legit issue.
@grindtony45 Aye. I had a buddy mention he got screwed out of two reaper's chest steals due to the infinite load during combat. It's not fun for sure.
@alaskagrown49 I get this too, what I call a 'buzz' crash. Annoying loud buzzing noise followed by a return to dashboard.
For statistics, I have the same issue. Game seems to be randomly freezing. It does not crash, I have to close it manually in task manager. Checked event viewer but it does not register anything until I manually close it.
Last time it crashed I was just standing still on an island for a minute, and suddenly froze. At first I thought it had to do with rendering, but guess not.

@samy648 Did you find solution for that error? Seems like I am getting same on and it's preventing me from playing since i am solo player.
