Getting trapped on a sinking ship. Are there plans to fix this?

  • So we've all been there: A ship sinks and you're still on it. Suddenly you're no longer swimming but pulled to whatever side of the ship is facing down. Eventually you either get the black screen, or you appear at the bottom of the ocean when the ship disappears.

I'm just curious if this is being looked into? I realize and appreciate the amount of effort going into the physics of this game, and I'm just curious if this is on the agenda for fixes in the future.

  • Isn't it intentional? Sailors used to be pulled down by sinking ships. Getting caught in the rigging and sails and stuff like that. That's why you want to get some distance between you and a sinking ship ASAP.

  • This is because of the relative gravity they have set up so that you aren't constantly sliding all over the ship. When a ship goes down, if you jump over the railing you will detach from the ship and be able to swim normally, even if you were under the water at the time that you jumped.

They probably keep it in effect for awhile during the ship sinking process so that any loot on board doesn't get clipped into parts of the ship as it tries to rocket to the surface.

  • @seanethermore The plan should be jump off before it sinks!

  • This is actually a somewhat realistic phenomenon, so I absolutely think it should stay, 'bug' or not. Sinking ships create a region of aerated water around them as they sink and people don't float in aerated water despite how hard they try to swim. Sailors should be scrambling to make distance with a sinking vessel. Sure, it's annoying for those who can't, but then that's the price of not making that distance
