I'm not even disappointed anymore (THD)

  • They announced this as a medium sized update, but it's barely a patch.

I was excited for aggressive mermaids and a reason to explore more places underwater, but as some people felt the need to remind me I was wrong about it not being the Megalodon.

That said, I was exactly right about how the Megalodon fight would go were it implemented. He just circles the ships and bites them once in a while, all while your crews pummel it with cannons and gunfire.

To top it off, their "Medium Sized" update added less content than their last cosmetics patch and it's only a limited time event. The Megalodon isn't even as complex as the regular sharks, since it only fights on a predictable 2D plane (the surface of the water).

But like I said, I'm not even disappointed anymore. I just kind of expect it now. I played for an hour or so, got the trumpet and the drum and the tat and then I killed the shark. Now I'm done until the next "big update" comes out.

I think the worst part about this patch is how my brother didnt even have to do the clues. He showed up at Merrick and 5 people were already there and someone had the drum, so off they went and killed it. 45 minutes my brother played and he already completed the goal of the content. That's medium sized? Come on Rare, it's like youre not even trying anymore. Or if you are, then you need to reevaluate your direction for this game.

Anyways, i'll see you all again when Cursed Sails drops in a couple months.

  • A new in game item that allows us to speak to other pirates who are far away

    A new instrument

A new Flag mechanic and cosmetics to go with it

    A new boss to fight

    New Skins

That seems like a reasonable "medium" update. Maybe im optimistic. As for your brother, its rare's fault he decided to skip the quests and go right for the boss? What should they make it a requirement to have to go through all the steps first? Kinda defeats the purpose of a "choose your own adventure" game.

And you think mermaids would have been better then the meg? If thats your opinion so be it, but I disagree. We already have a basic enemy that attacks us in the water. I'd much rather have a new boss fight.

Sorry this update wasn't all you hoped it would be, but I gotta disagree, I had alot of fun these past few days. For the first time there is an actual reason to work with other crews, and I've noticed the seas feel alot friendlier because of that.

  • I love how excited so many were. All I saw on the forums how hungering deep and so many excited. Turns out it’s an hour of content and the best thing to happen for people who like to troll the quest giver. Good job rare

  • I was excited before it was launched and after launch I'm still happy.

This is perfect for us who only have the time to play a few hours per week, (read Got a life and also understands that we dont have to play only ONE game all the time)

Thank you Rare for giving me a great game experience last night with a bunch of french and german players!

  • Are you incapable of reading or watching the dev videos? There is a reason why it's like this the first team had the least amount of lead time. Stop complaining about FREE content.... I for one thought it was great and a great beginning of things to come.

  • I think the update was great except for one thing .. why dont we make money off killing the meg! I mean i spent a good day going through all the quests which i thought were great then you kill the thing and get a figurehead ... theres no reason to ever kill the megladon again because theres no payout to do it. Really hoping they give you somthing like a shark jaw or a fin or somthing you can sell to the merchant vendor

Why is making money in the game more important than having fun playing the game?

  • Well, why don't you uninstall the game, try to get a refund, or simply go play something else?

Or maybe you can show us your programming genius and create your own game.

  • @psk76 lol its not that it isnt fun playing the game ... its that theres no incentive to kill it a second time. Everythings about the grind my friend cosmetics arnt cheap

  • @subaqueousreach it was his choice to skip the whole [Mod Edit - Profanity] questline.

Big deal. There's no incentive to go kill skeletons a second time, nor to sail around the same islands a second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth time. There's no reason to repeat any action in this game or another.

I'm not a SOT fanboy, but it's like if you, the OP or anyone else is really that upset with the game, then vote with your mouse. Uninstall it and go do something else.

  • @fantome-of-blue lool this is a forum for suggestions why you gettin so salty bud ! :p and there is incentive to sail around islands four or five times searching for chests or shipwrecks

  • you deff sound like a fanboy and thats alright we all have our own suggestions

  • That full theatrical trailer and title screen though !!!!???? How could you not see that fact as the best possible content update ever!!!? Talk about excellence! I was on the edge of my seat!!
I just hope more than anything that we get a title screen and full (2-3 minute long) theatrical trailer with each 1 gb patch/update!

Why is making money in the game more important than having fun playing the game?

thats due to the fact that modern trash games have conditioned us to feel joy or pleasure from seeing our own stats go up. its no longer about having a fun or good time. its about seeing a number go up

  • I must say that while it was a short experience (don't forget about weekly events though), it was a rather enjoyable one. My two man sloop, another two man, a one man sloop, and a four man galleon all teamed up and found the clues together. Then we went and we fought the thing. Yes the mechanics were fairly basic, but every boss battle in the world is predictable and the experience can be very rewarding outside the realm of unlockables.

  • @awfulstin said in I'm not even disappointed anymore (THD):

I'm not salty, I'm just reading one complaint after another about how "there's no content". It's like why are you all even posting in the first place? Like I say, go find another game.

  • It seems to me this was more designed as a training excessive to show you how to fight the shark once you start encountering it on the seas. (Confirmed by the interview Joe gave saying this quest was only designed to introduce players to the new mechanics). That coupled with the fact that while this was the HD drop there is more coming during the HD in way of weekly events. I get how some ppl are disappointed with it but when I look at most games where you’ll get one content drop every 3 months and you’re lucky to get any patches unless a truly game breaking glitch happens I’d say rare is on par at this point. Take my other fav game for example. Rainbow Six Siege. You get a drop every 3 months. 1 map and 2 new characters. Very few QOL patches and there are bugs left over from year one that have yet to be fixed.

I do play something else. I play many other games that have been well more worth my time, but i was hoping the game I shelled out $89 for would actually end up being worth it. I enjoy the foundation they set up and the game can be fun in certain circumstances, but their overall execution has been poor at best when 80% of the game is spent on downtime just staring at an empty sea.

And in what world does someone need to be skilled in a field to be able to critique it?

How about instead of telling paying customers to take their money back from the devs, help Rare understand their shortcomings and that they need to improve as a company if they really want their game to succeed?

What you fail to realize about these complaints is people want to see this game do well and we feel it really has the potential to do well. Yet every time they try to wow us we feel dissatisfied because its always under the par they set up themselves.

Ahoy there, we've a specific mega thread set up to collect feedback around Hungering Deep if you'd also like to add your thoughts there -

Life's not all about gold, With mentality like that is how you get awful games like fortnite. Quick instant gratification.

  • @subaqueousreach this was not a big update, it was small but still larger then a movie. Also this was the start to the weekly vents. And if you didnt have some sort of guidence from anyone or the net then it would have taken longer then an hour. Dont like the game dont play it. Its been out for 2 months and they just keep adding stuff what other game does that. Cod only puts new maps out 1 time every 4 month apprx. And that is only for 1 year then nothing. Find me on a server a battle me if you want hard. Ive got a couple of crews and hardly loose. Same name i use in game i use here. Buy buy bad guy....way to go rare it was awesome and the whole gathering and socializing was the best part. Along side the megafone

  • @subaqueousreach also the actual gosl is to figure it all out not use others, that means he got none of the achievements commendations or content. Play it the way its ment to be played.

  • @twiztedkarrtoon

Play an open world choose your own playstyle game the way it was meant to be played?

    [Mod Edit - Derogatory Language]

  • @subaqueousreach dude the puzzles have reason and order. Yes the way it was ment to be played no shortcuts figure it out yourself. Solving things is the funnest part. No wonder your bored. The open world part has nothing to do with what i was talking about. The weekly event is what you mentioned not the whole game [Mod Edit - Name Calling/Disrespectful Towards Other Users]

  • @subaqueousreach "A couple months" aka in a months time, or less.

Content has a lot to offer, but the main goal was to bring the community together to fight the shark, and that, to me, was worth it and it'll keep me satisfied until the first weekly updates. Oh! Don't forget about that.

Weekly content that'll reuse old content and mechanics and occassioanly add new content and mechanics WEEKLY! Wow.

@fantome-of-blue I am sorry what? You are saying that there is no incentive in doing the voyages? Then like...what do you do?

Shoot yourself from the cannon and log out? I am genuinely curious here. I mean, the current voyage system and voyage types are simply not enough of a incentive to keep people wanting to play I can agree. But they at the very least give you a incentive to do them, which is gold and reputation to get the cosmetics of the game.

@Ve111a Would you do the Shark Monster again? After you exhaust helping out your friends on your list to achieve the kill, would you want to do it again on just a whim or if some people were asking for help, would you really want to stop what you are doing and go fight...that...thing again?

I had a lot of fun doing it and would gladly do it again If I can help someone else get their cosmetics and achievements. It was a great fight and pretty tough.

The figurehead isn't the only reward from killing the megalodon. If you are bitten during your fight with it your character gets exclusive cosmetic scars earnable only as a trophy from your fight

  • I really liked the update and it showed what they can do, have patients pirates, I think there is much more to come. Try to appreciate how much they have built and the foundation they can build on. I'm loving the game and they sailing and looting! This was a small update but the others will be bigger.

  • @subaqueousreach the "worst part" is that your brother didn't have the patience to do anything himself and just cheesed through it on the backs of others?

    That isn't a game problem...

People are trying to "win" a game as fast as possible that doesn't have an overall winner or loser.....

  • wa wa wa xD

  • @a-trusty-mango said in I'm not even disappointed anymore (THD):

@ve111a Then you are made of sterner stuff then I am. I don't think I would willingly go do that again unless I was on a galleon with people who communicated. I did it with a little fleet of 3 sloops the first time.

Him and I actually spent 2 hours last night sailing around, looking for people to help out with the event. We only found people doing the drum quest, but we DID bring the tune across the map to them to 3 different spots (trying to convince them they had to carry it with them the whole way, they knew better but played along until they got out of earshot). That's one of the cool things about this event, while it may not motivate everyone to do that sort of thing, it definitely gets some people in a different mentality. We had a hard time attacking anyone because we didn't know who might be doing the questline, so we just decided to help out instead, and I'll probably keep doing it over the upcoming weekend.

That being said, I'm sure once this is over and done, I'll be back to sinking ships and seeing what floats. But for now, this is fun.

  • I will say I had fun with the boss fight and I am glad to say that I met some new friends to enjoy Sea of Theives with! But at the end of it you ask what’s next?

  • They said it wasn't big themselves so idk what everyone was expecting lol
