Hungering Deep 5-man

  • I played through the hungering deep last night and enjoyed it. Right up to the point where I learned I need 5 people to be able to complete the quest line. As a solo player it is impossible to complete the quest with the game in it's current state.
This is how the last 4 hours of my day has gone.

    1. join a galleon crew
    2. ask them if they want to do the megalodon,
    3. they say no
    4. leave crew
    5. repeat at step one.
Then once, I do finally find a crew it's going to be impossible to get another crew that wants to do it and doesn't just start firing at us as soon as our ship is in range.

I get that you're trying to improve the community and promote teamwork. But this is complete trash. Idk how you could make such a great game like SoT and then have an idea as dumb as this one... Really... this completely ruins the hungering deep for many players. if this is the trend for upcoming expansions then I imagine I will just stop playing.

Since there are only like 4 ships on any give server maybe you should make a way to allow players with the same objective to end up on the same server.

  • Exactly the same sad situation here, this DLC is not working for solo players.

  • I hate to be the broken record but... maybe don't try to complete a group event as a solo slooper?

  • Just be a bit more social... I'm finding it hard to find anyone to do normal voyages with, everyone is doing the hungering deep. Really not hard to get 5 folks together.

  • I agree with @AwesomecoreUSA , the game was meant to be a coop game, they only made sloops near the end. There are several communities or threads you can find where people are looking to do the same quests tough, with as many toxic players there are there is just as many helpful players. If you prefer the solo adventure maybe try sailing out to the location and waiting for another ship to help trigger the event. I highly suggest joining a community or "fleet" though, that will allow you to sail solo and also have people to play with when you need to.

  • Did you either Sail Directly to the Location of the Quest or the Instance? I was watching three different streamers who all just happened to sail up and find some people waiting who were not completely against it.

Check out this thread, it may help you get that sweet victory on meg!

  • Also try XBL "Looking For A Group" tool.

Earlier today I was bored and sailing solo, so I sailed my sloop to Merrick. Found 3 other sloops there, that all seemed friendly. We talked a bit and decided to sail together. Since I completed it already, I suggested to leave my ship behind and carry the song while on another ship.

We arrived, summoned the shark and after a bit of battle it seemed to favor one of the sloops which didn't last long. Even though I was very careful, mostly repairing and avoiding to be on the side the shark was, I eventually also died. My ship however was still in one piece back at the island so I sailed back and they were still fighting. I managed to get the final two hits on it, but it was too late for one of the other sloops it took too much damage and was sinking. We sailed back to Merrick with the remaining 2 sloops, so everyone could complete it.

So yea... as a solo player it's definitely not impossible to do this, but it's definitely easier to just find a crew to join on LFG, Discord or the forums.

  • @david00011011 It was really no problem for me;
Step 1: hang out at shark bait cove
Step 2: Wait and ask people coming through if they want to do it

I had bad luck the 1st time I tried but a Galleon came up and killed us all. Just joined another server and was able to do it right away.

  • I had a very good experience as Solo Player! I was by Merrick to do the Drum Quest, and only to speak to him, Hear his Story, had no intend to Fight the Meg! So a few Minutes later someone was shouting My Name, i was confused, turned my Head around and saw an Stranger Pirate! He asked me If i would help them to Fight the Meg, i said ok lets try! He took me on his Galleon and a other Crew Member from him took my Sloop and we sailed to the Spot! I played my Concertina whole Time on the Galleon, you dont Need the Drums! We battled the Monster, i was 90% of the Time on the Galleon side by side with Stranger „Enemy“ Pirates it was a Epic Feeling the Fight, the Pirates who helps you whole Time! We killed the Big Fish, after the Fight a Crew Member from the Galleon repaired my Ship because it had mayor Damage, and then we sailed side by side to Merrick, anchored and chilled a little Bit fought Skeletons together I experienced the Speaking Trumpet and yelled crazy stuff like „Houston we have a problem“ or „we don’t call 911“ :D great fight great feeling!

    Sry for bad English

  • I only did it twice last night and both times I’ve picked up a solo sloop plus others.

  • First time we ran it we picked up a solo guy. He just jumped on our galley and we knocked it out. It’s a lot of fun on one ship. Keep at it you will find someone.

  • So impossible I did it within 20 minutes of joining as a solo player lol...

  • L.....F.....G

  • I wish I didn't have to join an actual crew to do this. Working with other crews I get that, not so much making it outright impossible to start for solo sloops unless you get lucky and find someone who wants to be helpful.

  • I think OP's criticism that it is difficult to find like-minded players in-game is a totally valid criticism. I don't think "don't solo", "I didn't have any problems", or "check a club" does anything to address that. The matchmaking for SoT is really terrible(completely random by ship type), and could use quite a bit of improving.

  • I was able to do it on my very first try sailing solo. Teamed up with another Galleon and Sloop.

Idk why so many people have trouble finding friendly pirates. Maybe I'm lucky, idk, but I get friendly encounters all the time. Are you using Voice Chat? Are you approaching them in a way that can be perceived as a threat? I find the best way to approach another crew is on foot. Park your boat out of cannon range, fire yourself onto the island and walk over to them holding a grog or instrument or something. Try to remember one of their gamertags and send them a message if they're not in game chat.

Also joining random galleons hoping they want to do the quest you want to do is really ineffective. Why not use the forums, discords, lfg, etc to find some people who have the same goal in mind?

  • Been trying for 2 days to get the event done, but no one wants to do it, they just do voyages and forts. it's annoying.

  • I'd recommend Fleet of Thieves - you'll get a 4 man galleon crew who want to do it easily there.

Then all you need to do is carry the tune and wait at the set location. Someone will rock up eventually and/or server hop.

  • completed with no problem at all as a sloop - met a 2man galleon and 2 more sloops, we all got on the galleon and after 15 minutes of tryharding and 3 dead crewmates from non-galleon we finally did it

  • Last night I got it done withing 15 mins of logging in, a fleet of 5 sloops gathered at Shark Bait, took on Megan, then sailed to a fort and took out a Galleon and then the fort. It was amazing fun. 4 sloops descending on a Galleon with the black raised and trumpets blairing. The Galleon were good sports too, if about as salty as one would expect from being swarmed by sloops. They put up a good fight and nearly prevailed.

Just keep plugging away trying it. I suggest you get all the journals and then hang out at Shark Bait or the spawn point or sail around and use the trumpet, the fight is so much fun you are bound to find at least one or two other crews who are willing to do it again. I know I plan on killing Meg again tonight and probably will tomorrow too. Mostly it's about the fleets for me, not so much about Meg but about what we might get up to afterwards once we've established that our ships can work together.

A gank squad of sloops is a force to be reckoned with, as I see it the only hard counter is another fleet. We also now have all the tools we need to coordinate larger fleets (flags and trumpets).

    Let the inter-fleet warfare commence!

    Red versus blue.

  • I’m having the same trouble and I can’t seem to get a response with the trumpet. I do think joining a lobby of some sort at Merrick would be cool. Then other people at Merrick with the drum in other servers get merged together? Then you go off on the sea together. Love the idea I do but it is so frustrating.

  • I love the idea that you're supposed to use the speaking trumpet to find someone to play with but I don't have much time to play SoT nowadays and it's just impossible to find the fifth player. Everyone just runs away from me or attacks me even tho I'm thoroughly explaining my intentions thru the speaking trumpet and I really try to sound friendly and cheerful. I'm doing my best but few more disappointments and I'm just gonna give up sadly.
