Too Much PVE In State of Decay 2, plus why no safe zones?

  • Hi all,

I bought state of decay 2 and despite its buggyness, I'm still enjoying it. Now, I didn't look into the game at all before I bought but there is way too much PvE. I dont even think it has PvP!?!

Plus, you can't even have any real safe zones. Even your own base can get attacked. If my character dies, I lose that character too. Not fair!

Given that this forum has the experts on calling for major game design changes I decided to come here. Any advice on how to petition undead labs to maybe redo all the design choices they made? I mean, I know they can build on their initial vision to make it better but I'd prefer they just make the game I want.

The game will die unless they make these changes.

I think it's so awful that game designers would be so inconsiderate to people's desires. I mean clearly, a game like this should be a mix up of what everyone wants, unless their opinion is bad of course!

  • Im waitin on that new Black Ops so i can go to the forums and ask for a safe mode in their new battle royale!! I shouldnt have to pvp if i dont want too!

  • @logansdadtoo this is serious stuff here.

  • @gloog I mean, they didn't even have an open forum for folk to use or to sign up to scale test or anything!

Well... they did... but then they cancelled it!

  • Turns out the critics hate it more than Sea of Thieves!
Coming in at 68, compared to SoT's 69 on Metacritic at the moment.

what do critics know though? I have played noting but SoT since March 20th and I am tempted to ignore State of Decay for now too...

  • Thank you for this post.

People here want a Game Genie. Just a way to have evwrything they want. Defeating the purpose of a game.

It's like when my friends put in cheat codes for all guns in GTA games, i just left the room. What's the risk?

  • @nwo-azcrack Ye and why do they have to even release the game, (I) don't want it so they should not release it.

  • @sshteeve State is a fun game but not that fun to be worth the money atm, On the other hand I gladly would pay another 50 dollars or so for Sea of thieves to a relative If I know they have the mindset for it, because I know they would have endless hours of fun with it ^^ and extra fun to come here listening to cry babies about how they want to change the game so it suits them ^^

  • 🤔 hmmmmm curse of monkey island is fun too 🐒 🐵

  • I have a ps2 but now realize the graphics arent as good as xbox1, please redesign the games and whatever internals need to be replaced in order to make my ps2 graphics better than my xbox1 graphics otherwise i will quit playing ps2

  • @Gloog I suppose on the plus side you didnt have to spend over £50 to find that out XD

  • @gloog Threads like this make me both happy and sad. Happy because I appreciate the tongue in cheek and blatant sarcasm. And sad because if I had made it the mods would have already locked it. Well done sir. Well done.

  • @gloog You should have at least read about the 1st one. All the things you don't like, are exactly what the game is supposed to be like. It's about the zombies, and it's always had the 'die and your done', due to the fact that you can recruit more characters. It's exaclty like the 1st one, with more depth and features, as advertised.

  • @gloog They should nerf jumping.

how come all of those who not get the idea of the game yell it'll die... just let it go, if it is not what you thought it would be. neither will it die 'cause you don't like it, nore will there be a redesign of it's basics.

They do it because adding drama makes them feel more important.

@RumHam636 I'm more sad some people aren't seeing the tongue in cheek critique of the forum 😂

@Foxdodge or could nerd accuracy while jumping or prevent reloading

  • I agree. I was actually playing Smashbros the other day and realized I cant stay in my corner and be safe. I was soo upset.

  • Well given they didn't say there would be PvP. They actualy said no PvP. Seems they didn't lie when advertising the game. The main focus of SoT marketing was cooperative play, with a small mention of PvP. That's why you see so many people complaining about the PvP.

See it's not just the design of the game it's how it was marketed to the players. If they would have said this is a PvP game with some small amount of PvE content so that PvP players can get loot from others. Then people that wanted a PvE pirate game would not have bothered to buy it.

That's just straight up wrong. Explore https://www.seaofthieves.com

You don't even need to go to the 'about' section.

    The very front page:
"A treacherous shared world: adventure across a vast ocean where every sail om the horizon means real players who may be friend or foe."

It just takes a very blind and uninformed consumer to fit the bill you are making.

  • @gloog They need more enemies... killing zombies over and over again gets a bit repetitive :P

  • The game is nothing but a bunch of repetitive fetch or kill quests, Undead Labs pls, also no passive mode so I can drive around without getting zombies all over my vehicle, beating it up to no end?! How am I supposed to reach zombie legend with all these griefing zombies!

Go watch all the pre launch videos. You see them stressing the cooperative nature of the game not the Kill on Sight game it really is.

Perhaps it's simply a matter of perception, but I interpreted those statements to be in regards to the cooperation with your crew than with randoms. I always remember the emphasis of protecting loot from other players, maybe even as far back as the E3 reveal (although my memory is a bit foggy going back that far, but there is a reason this game stuck out in my head and I'm pretty sure it was the PvP promise. I could be wrong on that one)

That being said, cooperation among random crews isn't unheard of, and I'd argue that the nature of most encounters makes them that much more special and memorable when they occur. I probably have one of these encounters once a week, and each time it's a great experience.

Yeah, theres always been an emphasis on open consequence and choice. I've always perceived it as crew cooperation and the rest being up in the air (hostile/friendly crews).

That being said, cooperation among random crews isn't unheard of, and I'd argue that the nature of most encounters makes them that much more special and memorable when they occur. I probably have one of these encounters once a week, and each time it's a great experience.

Cooperative encounters are great. They are memorable because they usually require some special circumstances in the game i.e. a galleon at a skull fort has prompted me to team with another sloop a number of times. Encourage RARE to make more of these situations is the best bet on the forums. We all know one more PvE server safe zone thread will kill gloog.

Regardless of perception, @Zeffin it takes a really oblivious purchaser to not know what they are getting.

This could either be a really strong tongue in cheek critique that SoT would be horrible with just skeletons as the only antagonist or... maybe the forums have dragged me that deep into the sarcasm hole. Help.. 😛

  • @gloog

Not oblivious. I played the Alpha. I played the Beta as well. The experience was much more cooperative then. So I pre-ordered. The experience has been completely different when it went live. I did play State of Decay 1 and so State of Decay 2 is very similar. So been very happy with that game.

I agree with DrunkPunk. It's a matter of perspective. I came in expecting a similar experience to what I had in the Beta. Also based on their videos, both trailers and their dev diary type videos, it seemed to be more cooperative with more exploration and less PvP. From my perspective it's really a PvP game. If they had said this is a PvP game with some small exploration opportunities while being hunted. Then I would have thought twice about buying.

Besides me not agreeing with that observation at all (the December and on tests were exactly like live), the same friction-creating game designs were in place in alpha/beta as they are in for live.

I don't know who could play the tests, know there isn't any major reasons to cooperate outside of crew, know the entire system was essentially collect loot/protect loot/take loot and still reach the conclusion that the game was going to be about exploration and other crews cooperating.

    It's a pvevp game.

  • @sshteeve Haha, I also haven't played any other game since March 20th, not even mobile.

  • @gloog
We will disagree. It's a PvP game. It's kill or be killed. If you try to not PvP (like I have) you get stuck having to PvP. You can't avoid it, with a few exceptions every time I tried to play music, dance, wave at someone they shoot you, sink your ship and move on. I don't see the PvE in the game at all. But I have a perspective you and I don't share.
