What Happens if a Server Gets "Too Old"?

  • As in. It has been an active instance of the world for awhile, to the point where Pirates have already taken most of the randomized treasure, bottles, barrels and gunpowder?

Legit question, does the world keep spawning new stuff?

I ask this because sometimes I go into a world and it is furtile with lots of sunken ship treasure, random loot, etc. Other times I enter a world, or stay on one a while, and it seems vacant.

I really don't want to server hop when I feel the world is too empty especially when I just got all of my friends online and on a boat full of supplies.

I would love to be enlightened by somebody who knows more about the game about how this situation is handled by the game. Do new things keep spawning? Does it eventually stop putting new players in your world so that once it is to unpopulated it will dump you into a new one? Or does the world just run out of extras forcing you to hop if you find it too empty?

  • @miles-traveler Ahoy there!

In simple terms... The world does keep spawning new stuff and will last until the server has expired or needs to restart for performance reasons...

A lot of the islands have set times for new spawns, outposts are more obvious and you can sometimes be lucky and be on the island when all the barrels refill/respawn.

  • @musicmee good to know I was always afraid of being on a server too long and having found all of the sunken ships.

  • @miles-traveler Ahhhh :)

Shipwrecks seem to despawn and respawn in an alternative location rather than the content on them refill/respawn.

Been watching this one closely as I have wondered the same!

  • @musicmee Your comments are appreciated. Now time to have fun on the high seas, my crew just came online. :)

what happens if you sit afk in a ship wreck for a looong time ?
(sometimes doing a couple actions to reset the afk timer)

  • @splatulated Good question.
I only saw a shipwreck despawn once from a little distance, it just disappeared without animation, so i expect you just fall into the sea, like when your scuttled ship despawns.
But i don't know if the game lets a shipwreck despawn if someone is in it. Would be frustrating to see stuff like a captains chest despawn in front of you.

  • @sirliborius @SPLATULATED

Likewise, have seen a ship despawn right in front of my eyes... they just vanish and I assume reappear at another random location elsewhere on the map fully stocked.

  • @musicmee ive noticed that ships seem to spawn in pairs, usually around forts along with barrels in the water, usually if you go to one su ken ship and then try to hit the other one on the opposite side it seems to dissapear. So it seems that you get 2 choices. Then just trabel and another will show up they happen a whole lot more then you think just keep your eyes on the sky and if you see barrels floating start looking for ship in water
