Ghost Ships.

  • There's nothing more worrying than the looming threat of losing all of your booty to another crew. Stealing from other people is a big part of the game, after all. But, even with 100 people to a server, the ocean can still seem empty from time to time. This is why ghost ships would be a good addition to the sea many have come to know over the past month.

The Ghost Ships could have an aesthetic similar to the Ferry of The Damned, and either be anchored or patrolling an area. The ship would have a skeleton crew with a captain, and be un-sailable and un-sinkable by players (The ship only knows one captain). The treasure would be locked in the brig.

The brig would be similar to the brigs on the sunken ships in size. They would contain a fair amount of loot and even a special chest. It would seem like there's no way into the brig at first. This is where the skeleton crew comes into play.

The crew of the Ghost Ship would work in a two wave system. The player(s) would have to fight the first "wave" consisting of all the skeletons on the ship. Afterward, the captain's quarters opens up, and the captain along with a few skeletons come out to fight. After defeating the captain, the Ghost Ship begins to sink back into the depths, releasing the treasure from the brig when it despawns, allowing the player's reward to float to the surface of the water.

On chest from the brig of the recently sunk ship sticks out to the player. It is a chest only found on Ghost Ships called the "Chest of The Damned", which slowly (or rapidly) consumes the players health as they carry it. It could sell for 1,500 at most. The chest would have a skull similar to the bounty skulls where the lock would be, and give off an eerie green glow. As a player carries it, they can hear faint ghostly wails, and a bell toll, as if the Ferry of The Damned is calling them.

Ghost Ships would be a great addition to the vast sea we all love to explore. It would provide the players with another optional challenge, and act as a reminder of their looming mortality.

  • Ghost ship raid idea discussed yesterday. All in all, a cool idea.

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/57342/suggestion-a-possible-implementation-for-a-ghost-ship-in-cursed-sails-update

  • @gloog Lol thanks! :)

  • I like it. It would be great if it had different colored lights to let you know it’s not a player from far away

  • anything to add more threats in the sea, more rewards and more instance events between voyages.

  • I don't like the unsinkable part. Gotta make it sinkable to add more risk. Do you risk it all to board the ship and steal the treasure? Or do you make it a ship to ship battle and sink them...

The trade off between the two being:

    1. Risk your ship sinking in order to get ALL the treasure.

    2. Lower the risk and sink them from a distance, but only SOME of the treasure (Randomly generated each time) floats to the surface for recovery.

  • I was going to suggest something like this. Glad you did.

  • @oneeyed-w1lliam Well, I can't speak for @MeridianPrunes but I know in my post the rationale for not sinking it is because I was treating it more as a raid event. Kind of like a moving fort deal.

But I'm open to suggestions if you want to drop one on the thread. I would imagine it would take a lot of cannonballs to sink something like that.

Oh it should definitely not be easy to sink. Imagine a floating, sailing fortress like a skull raid, with the added twist of being able to sail with you in battle!

Also, it would be cool if the raid event starts with the ship appearing onto the map like so:

  • @oneeyed-w1lliam Oh, I imagined ;)
