Tortuga - A Pirate Hub

    I posted this on reddit, but I thought I'd copy and paste here to spark more discussion.

    This might be an outlandish suggestion, and given the general detest surrounding in-game player hubs (Destiny and COD: WWII as key examples) this may not be received with a positive reaction.

    Anyway, an island that serves as a dwelling for players, much like Tortuga in the Pirates of The Caribbean movies. We currently have outposts, yes. But aside from reloading voyages and selling our plunder, they serve no purpose (until stat based upgrades are a thing, I will stand by this statement).

    Tortuga could be:

    • A safe zone (i.e. no combat)
    • A place to idle if you need to go AFK
    • A place to socialize
    • Somewhere to recruit new shipmates for crews and pirate factions/clans independent of per-session crews which would add hierarchy and renown to the game through leaderboard rankings (similar to Clash of Clans)
    • Compete in mini games (firing crew members from cannons to see who can achieve the furthest distance?)
    • Interactive NPC's

    +1 to this, totally agree.

    Now, you are a legend only for your crew and maybe for some ships more on your game but not for the community.

    A hub is needed to socialize, to find sailors and to show off your pirate.

    The subject of a Tortuga for Sea of Thieves has been brought up quite a bit on the forums.

    The general consensus is that no one opposes the idea provided it acts as a pregame lobby for socializing, forming crews and playing minigames (much like how The Tower works in Destiny). Once you and your gathered crew are ready to go you would be placed into a server and spawn at one of the six outposts to begin playing as the game is now, with the option to return to Tortuga in the crew menu (forsaking any supplies or treasure currently on your ship).

    Players would not be able to turn in treasure at Tortuga, nor would they be able to hide there with a boat full of treasure to wait out the "impatient PvP griefers" as I've seen mentioned in many threads.
