Out of all of my attempts to take skeleton fort with other crews only one was successful because of teamwork and even then we were constantly "accidentally" killing each other. What if we could "vote an acord" with other crews? It would effectively turn off friendly fire until the crews voted to end it. That way there is no way for a sabotage until all teams were ready and in agreement, it would maximize the opportunity to actually share the experience and also the reward.
What about a parlay system?
some things would suck, imagine one of the crews manages to snatch in and steal the strongold chest and skull, then you cannot kill them after, and you cannot pick up the chests from them. so it would be abused many times. also you cannot really stop them from blowing up your ships with gunpowder barrels, and also you can sink your own ships, so they would also sink your ships later probably.

Of course any system has the possibility to be abused, I was thinking more of the solo player like myself that comes across another player and we could temporarily join up with the understanding that treasure is first come first served.
