Game wont start. Exausted all options need help from devs PLEASE!

  • So here is my issue. I installed the game. Went to play it from the windows store. A gray screen pops up with an image inside it for anywhere from .1 sec to 5 seconds and then goes away. That is all it does. Also here is everything that I have tried with no avail.

    Tried to uninstall and reinstall game
    Went into services and enabled windows pushtoinstall service. restarted computer, didn't work
    Went into services and set all xbox services to start on automatic with the exception of one that gave me an access denied prompt. restarted. still same issue.
    Fix #1
    Login to Windows 10 with a local Microsoft Account. This fixes majority of cases reported.
    Fix #2
    Open the Windows 10 Store, then in the top right corner click on the profile picture.
    If you have multiple accounts signed in, sign out all of them but leave the email account linked to the game’s purchase signed in.
    Next, in the Windows 10 Store download any free app at all.
    Then try playing Sea of Thieves again through the Windows 10 Store “Library” page.
    Fix #3
    Go to the below link and save / run the tool. Follow the on screen instructions to troubleshoot / fix your issue.

    Fix#4
    Press Windows + R
    Type Powershell and hit enter
    Copy and paste the following into the powershell window and press enter
    Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

    I also sent in a ticket which has I have yet to hear anything. Please if anyone has ANY ideas to try send them my way. Thank you all

    I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place but it wouldn't let me post to the forums and I tried 3 browsers and 2 computers and this was the first attempt that actually worked for posting. everything just seems broken.

  • @alphashroom56 I cannot guarantee this will work in your case, but I had a similar issue on launch day. I tried nearly everything. Check and see if you have a new update available for your graphics card; even though my graphics drivers were current as of whatever Nvidia driver release came before Sea of Thieves, and my current computer is a brand new build, solely updating them and restarting allowed me to launch the game.

  • Thanks guys for the response. I will go ahead and try that even though yesterday I upgraded my GPU to a GTX 1070 and dled all the drivers.

    TrittonVp- was there any response or eta? or are we looking at a Monday/Tuesday fix you think? I have not been able to find anything really in response to this issue from devs.

  • honestly it may not help at all, but try pinning SoT to your start menu, and close out of the store and everything, then attempt to start the game from the start menu, i had an issue with the game not starting when i tried to run it via the store, and this has not let me down yet.

  • So I tried the start menu thing and didn't work. I even went into the NVidia GeForce experience and re-downloaded my graphics driver. Currently rocking version 391.24 released on 3/20/18. Still does not work. Any body have any other ideas, I just want to play my game I paid $64 for sad face

    As TriitonVp has said, it should be fixed in the next update (which may be next week)...

    Theoretically, there is a new Windows update that should fix the issue. I hope it works for you :)

  • @el-espectro-0 no. This was supposed to fix it but some users like my self still have the DCOM error causing an instant crash of the game only displaying the splash screen. The fix should be out early this coming week. Hopefully monday or tuesday

  • @triitonvp Yes, I did a little more research and the update mentioned in the article (KB4088776) is from March 13, so in the end it is not "updated"...

    Well, yesterday a user found another possible solution, but even if I had this issue, it would not be worth it for me.

  • Reinstall XBox Insider Center. Thats is what made the game to start at the betas for me

  • @alphashroom56 I can confirm although it is a very annoying and time consuming fix. Reinstalling windows and updating all drivers will allow the game to function normally.
