If I play on my Xbox, but then I'm somewhere else in the world and want to play on my laptop, will the progress save as long as I'm using the same account?

100% Correct! The game is continuously saving data back to your profile and you can pick up from any machine you are logged in to!

That is correct! As long as you’re using your same Xbox Live account you are good to go as the game is Play Anywhere, meaning you can play on your Xbox and your progress is saved if you want to continue your voyage on your PC!
