We Need A 5-6 Player Ship At Launch Or At Least Announced!!

  • I know this has been said before but we Definitely need a 5-6 man ship so we are able to play with all of our friends.

A good amount of my friends are being turned off by this game because of only having a max party/ship size of 4!

I would love for all my buddies to be able to hop on one ship in the same server and go exploring. But if there isn’t some sort of larger ship announcement soon I don’t believe my friends will pick this game up which succckkksssss.

Let me known what you guys think / if you’ve heard any news of a larger ship !

  • @xcaptainjonny think it has been said that there won't be more than 4 player ships, although I do like the idea of a 6 man ship. It would have to be slower than the sloop though otherwise combat would be so unbalanced

  • @thewolfman321 I agree. A 5-6 battleship has to have a real disadvantage to give sloop players a chance and i don't know how to do that. Really slow or more jobs with more footwork between it.

  • @univalvewolf976 They have to slow down everthing. Less water in bucket, 2 people to set sail length and angle and 2 ankers to raise.

Still i dont think it will benifit the game if they add this kind of ship.

  • @thewolfman321 they've actually never said this. They have said there will be a lot of ship variety though, many of times actually. I'm not sure if 2 ships counts as that or not though. Or if they will have a bunch of different 1-2 and 3-5 man ships. I wish Rare would increase the group size just so I could play with more of my friends, but I am not sure its something they'll do. At the very least I would like more variety of what we've been shown or seen, which they say is coming. We just do not know to what degree that variety is yet.

  • What they have said is that they have extensively tested larger crew sizes, and that they felt that 4 people (maybe, just maybe, an increase to 5 max) is what they think is best for this game. It fits their idea of what Sea of Thieves is, and what SoT should be. Why is that so difficult for people to accept?

  • What about a Hardcore mode where you just have one life or lose all your gold if you die and respawn at an outpost. That could be justify a larger crew on a ship.

  • @univalvewolf976 I sail using the Sloop solo and with a partner. Have sailed on Galleon with 3 others but not as much. I would love 5 and 6 crew ships added to the game even when I am solo. The more variety the better☠

  • @univalvewolf976 I feel like I could use this reply and only this reply for the majority of suggestions made. 'It's not that type of game'. I can almost guarantee there won't be a 'hardcore mode'. As others have said, increasing the crew size isn't a simple matter, it's a complete juggling act that would require major aspects of the game to be reworked in order to maintain balance. I think the best case scenario you could hope for in order to play with all your friends is the ability to host your own private game and have all your pals on multiple ships, this doesn't seem super likely to happen either though.

  • In the coop games at 4, we never ask if they can not do a coop to 5 or 6 rather ^ ^ I do not understand your desire.
I have already was at 12 on a gallion it's the brothel; -)

  • @rufustheblakman I'm totally with you. I don't want a 5-6 crew big ship just for the sake of it.
I want to have a chance steering my sloop solo on the sea with a chance of winning a fight against a bigger ship. But if your enemy has just one life he maybe weight the risk on the profits more concisely.

  • @univalvewolf976 the solo sloop is not too much for the attack, it's more of the survival

  • @sidious8888 Nonsense. I'm an attack dog on my sloop. I will straight up chase a galleon down.

  • I think a 5-6 player ship would be unbalanced. But what if we are allowed to make a fleet of 2 max ships? Then we can still play with more then 3 friends if we are 8 total :)

  • @yualee But wouldn't that even be more unbalanced if you have fleet against you as a sloop player?
They can cut off your direction or one can board your ship and the other shoot the hell out of you.

  • @univalvewolf976

Yeah, that is why I thought perhaps those who have a fleet will be on a seperate server?

  • I think if you were able to get multiple ships, the only way you could do it would be to 'sync drop', a tactic commonly used in games like World of Tanks or World of Warships. Wargaming uses 3 man platoons, and everyone's on comms, with 1 person counting down so that the 2 platoon leaders enter the game as close to simultaneously as possible, putting them in the queue at the same time, increasing their chances of being paired together. Though 1/2 the time they end up playing against each other!

That's the only way I can imagine it happening, but Rare may just make it so that if a player has the same clan tags as another player already in the instance, it won't let them join there, and moves them to a separate phase.

  • @erinom3 Wasnt it 5 at the start ? im not sure though but i think they were 5 people at the first few tests. Correct me if im wrong

  • @mcy0 It was 5 at the start I think, but they said it was too many and moved it down to 4

  • @thewolfman321 Ive never played with 5 but 4 seems to be okay. But it gets difficult if you want to play with more friends.

  • @mcy0 yeah that is a point. I most often play solo, so this does not affect me, but can see the appeal of larger crews. It could be done tbh, but the ship would need ore things to do to avoid players getting bored and also a significant handicap so the game is not unbalanced

  • @thewolfman321 Yeah, indeed.

  • @yualee that's what i was thinking. Like a fleet

  • There could be a public event style thing where we take on a giant ship. Perhaps from the royal navy. And pirates team up to take it down

  • I mean i guess with party chat you could team up with as many people as you want and have a fleet. Servers would be an issue. And friendly fire lol

  • Rare said in the last podcast that they see the people asking about a 3 man crew... I'm all for 3 man crews!

I hope they also see that people want higher amounts of crew as well.
We don't need a bigger ship to accommodate 5 to 6 players.
(Not against a bigger ship at all, though! :))

Same with the ability to make a fleet from 2 or more crews.
(I think a fleet of 2-3 ships would be the ideal limit)

Grouping up with more than 4 people, on 2 and 3 ships.
Sometimes even everyone on one ship.
    Life will find a way!

    Give us options!

  • @skeletonpiratex on the contrary. The reason the ship currently works so well is that it's been designed around the fact that just travelling could get boring, so everyone has something to do. To add 2 extra players onto a ship with no change in gameplay then it could be very boring for some players.

Also, without an added handicap, then 5-6 player crews would only have an advantage and nothing against them, resulting in very unbalanced gameplay for others. If you make a slightly larger, slower ship, then it gives smaller crews the chance to run away at least, as combat would always be in favour of the 5-6 man crew.

  • @erinom3 because people have more than 4 friends, and this is shared world game. I get why its the way it is, but it does shaft some people and their groups of friends. It also puts a lot of meaningless stress on guilds/clans, which can be a very big part of your community if you let them.

Also keep in mind the game is still in development, things are far from set in stone. They actually have tested 5 player groups and might roll with that at release, we don't know. We've also seen changes like allowing for a group of 4 to take out 2-sloops (or another 1 to 2 man equivalent vessel that is unannounced). You also have Rare hinting at different classes of ships, and unique ships and gear. What any of these means is anyone guess, but there's a lot more to come that is for sure.

  • @xcaptainjonny I mean fortnite still works well with a Max of 4 people.

  • @ethnine well said

  • @residentapple12 totally different game

  • @xxdbssxx The limit if anything should be more important in Sea of thieves than fortnite, since in fortnite large crews will dominante sloops in the same world.

  • @ethnine
"Things are far from set in stone". I've seen this phrase been tossed around the forums too much lately. Agreed, this game was in it's alpha and is moving into it's beta. Agreed, we're here to give feedback, help with testing, and provide stats/telemetry for them to look at. They do consider our feedback, but to expect/hope for them to change a fundamental part of the game, like the max of a crew size, is just setting yourself up for dissapointment.

I can understand how you want to play with your friends, and how a lot of people want to have an increase in the size so that they can play with their larger group of friends. It's fun to play games with friends. And I do think that an implementation of a mechanic allowing for community events is something that would open up a whole new amount of storytelling.

But inflating the crew size is a whole different ballgame. In my eyes, asking for it to increase is similar to asking a game like Overwatch to introduce 10 v 10 competetive because people want to play with their friends. It just isn't the right choice for that game, just as a large increase in crew size isn't the right choice for this game.
