The Future of the Sea of Thieves

  • As a longtime player and a retired captain of the Sea of Thieves, I have one question for you @beckyfr0st.
How is the team at Rare? how things are going? has Mike seen how things have become with the state of the game in the area of mindset with also the lawsuit that y’all had to deal with?
I’m only asking out of concern as many people from America, including myself are wondering if Mike is working on something to bring the game back to life.
I know a lot of content, creators, streamers, and partners had to step down from y’all’s team for many reasons & it does upset me with the way things are going right now.
Sometimes I log on and I sit at Port Merrick with a Crate of Golden Greed Rum or Dark Demise Rum & I stare at the sunset, wondering what’s to come next for the game that would change the way it’s viewed today, I know it hurts Drew Stevens when he does the videos and says that y’all had missed the mark on updates and such.
There’s a lot of pirates even me that would like to see adventure being more talked about as equal as rewarding experiences on a different scale.
I did like the Cutlass that was made out of my Doubloons that I’ve had over the years. but I’m sad that we didn’t have nothing worth buying with doubloons before the reset.
I would like to see adventure being the core experience once more as well as different rewards and I did hear y’all are having a massive layoff of employees.
I just hope that whoever y’all bring on that would help revitalize the game at a new level for everyone to re-experience.
    Sincerely
    Cap’n Mace.

  • I second this enquiry.

I don’t really know how many people are working at Rare, or how many from Sea of Thieves “Golden Era” are still at Rare. Layoffs, restructuring…Has the team been gutted for a while and we haven’t been told? Something feels off, and has for a while.

I genuinely pray that the Rare staff are doing ok. But what we need now is honesty and transparency.

Not too sure about this to be honest. There are certain details companies keep to themselves to maintain professionalism, to protect employee's privacy, etc. Layoffs happen, and while it's unfortunate (understatement), a company isn't going to provide a list of names of those who were let go, who still remains, etc. That's up to the individual.

I worked for a grocery store as a cashier when I was in high school. One day, an employee in the meat/fish department was fired, because he had been putting select cuts in a box which he'd then take home (out the back door) after his shift. Anytime customers asked where he was, the answer we were told to give is that he's no longer with this location, and that's that. Customers would praise him all the time and all I could do was hear their stories about him, and agree with whatever they said.

Honesty and transparency is not for the public when it comes to certain details. Rare could pull the plug tomorrow and they don't have to tell us anything.

  • @europa4033

You are absolutely correct, companies should keep things professional when they can.

But still, it would be nice to know how many devs who made sea of thieves are still working on it, because it just doesn’t feel right anymore.
