Revisiting Gold Hoarder Vaults in 2026

  • Ok, so when GH Vault Voyages initially came out, I had loads of fun with them. Completing 100 of them, stealing them, tucking on crews, helping crews with the puzzle, the whole nine. I truly loved these voyages.

I hadn't done one in years, though (nor have I really seen many people doing them). Today, I decided to revisit them as I thought that with some of the additions and rebalances to the game over the years, that maybe my least favorite parts of the voyage were improved. They were not.

First, why is it that when you pick up the loot in the vault, it does not raise your emissary grade at all? It only raises your emissary grade for the fractional amount that you get when you put it onto your ship. It makes no sense that a top tier variant of the voyage barely gets you to grade 4 Emissary getting every single piece of loot. Make it just like regular loot where you get the first touch credit as well as the on ship credit.

Second, moving all that loot is absolutely painful. I can unload an entire Ashen Garrison in less than half the time it takes to load out one of these vaults solo. I thought that maybe with the order of bone and blade skeleton's help on the island, that maybe I could expedite it. Nope. Just like the regular skeletons, they don't enter the corridor. I even had an ammo crate and was using the harpoon gun and it was still absolutely dreadful. The mechanics exist for a pulley and platform system. Why not apply that to the vaults? Make a platform you can load the loot onto, and then pulleys to move the platform through the corridor.

That's all. Couple little QoL suggestions to make those voyages more attractive to players trying to progress through their faction levels. As it stands, the juice just isn't worth the squeeze compared to so many other ways to level up Gold Hoarders.

    Completing 100 of them

The answer is your own. Because they are so easy to do and always filled with major treasures that out rank other voyages. With a Gold key alone, you should be able to reach G5 and still have treasures left, Not counting simply doing the voyage to the Key lvl up the grade. (if your good you can skip alot of it)

Agreed, but that's the kicker. Choose to do it solo, you pretty much have to pick the only good chests and make a run back to your ship...OR

    stealing them, tucking on crews,

    This happens.

I can unload an entire Ashen Garrison in less than half the time it takes to load out one of these vaults solo.

Very easy and less loot to do. Plus you can see your ship and any other ship coming your way. Less risky, not to mention extra cannons. :p

But back to this, yeah. They can make up some story that the GH hired someone (or themselves) to locate the vaults and install stuff to help.

  • The voyage is highly impractical solo on most vaults as you spend more time moving the loot to your boat than you actually do completing the vault. Hopefully some of these changes are implemented to improve the vaults and their viability

  • Touching loot raising emissary was removed on purpose, so I assume they didn't like your flag grade raising too quickly at the time but they've since added a bunch of stuff that does this anyways so I don't see a problem with putting it back.

I haven't done one of these in awhile, and one of the reasons I stopped is they changed the vault location to be farther away for some reason. You sail around Shores of Plenty collecting map pieces and then you get Devil's Ridge vault? Ugh.

No. It doesn't. I literally just did the science. I got every single piece of loot out of the vault. It absolutely does not get you to grade 5 Gold Hoarder Emissary. And that's with picking up some additional washed-up loot at islands along the journey.

It makes no sense that touching the loot in the vault does not raise your emissary grade. I vaguely remember that it DID when the voyage was first introduced, but either they patched it out or it's been bugged for half a decade. One or the other.

EDIT: it was on Insiders that it was in, and then they removed it for whatever reason. Insider Build 2.0.17.9 is where they removed the Emissary gain from touching the loot.

Without going back and doing additional digging to find what led to that decision, maybe it made sense back in 2020... In 2026, though, it just makes an otherwise great voyage feel lackluster.
