Has Sloop Speed Buff gone too far?

  • Hey gang,

Experienced something that surprised me recently. My crew in a brig, chasing a decent sloop crew with full billow side-wind (the brigs' supposed strength) in a NW direction. Heading NW, the waves typically bash a sloop more than the larger boats, meaning catching a sloop heading NW was inevitable, provided you weren't heading directly into the wind.

Now given all that - they were pulling away. And in other directions they were pulling away.
We're all long time players, we know how to angle sails etc., the only reason we caught up to them was due to their mistakes.

So now I'm thinking the Sloop speed buff is a little too fast, given that at full sail, the Brig struggled to catch the Sloop meaningfully in any compass or wind direction.

Possibly, didn't think of that. They didn't keep any on the boat though (we did eventually catch them)

Probably jumped off and tried to board you with it, missed and lost the horn and that's why you caught up to them. 😂

  • Maybe. But they did try board us with kegs .... many times.
