HOURGLASS XP REVIEW

  • I’ve been playing the current season and I’d like to highlight a major issue with XP balancing in the PvP faction mode.

Right now, the amount of XP gained per round feels far too low compared to the time investment required. Outside of double XP events or special weekends, progression becomes extremely slow.

In practice, gaining even one or two levels can take hours, if not entire days of grinding. This makes the experience feel more exhausting and stressful than enjoyable, especially for players who can’t dedicate that much time.

PvP should feel engaging and rewarding, but in its current state it risks becoming frustrating and inaccessible.

I would suggest reviewing the XP balance per round—either by increasing the base rewards or by introducing a system that better rewards player performance and time invested.

I hope this feedback can be considered to improve the overall experience this season.

    Thank you.

  • I agree it's a bit too slow by default.

Also I've never quite understood why some of the rep is stored in hourglass. Why not just give that rep instantly after winning and hourglass would only store gold for when you go lower?

  • They just need to move the bulk of the XP gained from the streak system onto individual matches to make them more meaningful.

Under the streak system, their best case matchmaking scenario (where you are fighting ships around your skill level a lot) results in the worst Allegiance gain because you shouldn't be able to put together long streaks.

  • When is the XP never low?
They can buff it once, months down the road someone will complain it still to low.

So when is it never enough?

  • How long have you been playing HG? Its been out for almost 4 years and the xp we get is normal during regular days. At that point saying they should give more you might as well say only the winning ship should get the points and if you lose you get nothing at that point. This is why we enjoy and look forward to the XP boost during the special weekends. As a daily HG player I don't have issues with the XP gained and am pretty high in my levels from playing all the time and turning in big winning streaks gives good XP. That is where you need to focus to get the levels turn in at higher streaks won.

  • Is this... oh God... Mr. President, we need to leave now! It's... so big... it's... the BIGGEST TRUTH NUKE EVER UNLEASHED!

I have been saying this ever since HG came out, the progression feels way too slow, some fights can last at least 45 minutes to almost 2 hours, so they need to scale the XP given based on how long a fight is.

  • @karminiumsot

It’s not possible for fights to last 2 hours with the shrinking circle.

Who ever said it was supposed to be fast?

Question, will you play hourglass after you get the curse? I get that many people just see hourglass as a means to a curse, I’ve certainly viewed many aspects of this game the same way. Many people like hourglass, the rewards come in time if you’re going to play it anyway.

Define “rewarding”. Did you have a fun fight? Did you get some gold from your wins? You even get allegiance if you lose, some say you shouldn’t get any allegiance for losses.

The curses aren’t time limited, you don’t need to hurry.

  • @capt-greldik This was before, and even then it is still entirely possible, happens a lot on sloop stalemates and sometimes on bigger ships when it’s just slamming the same holes

  • @karminiumsot

I guess I could see two ships parked right beside one another going for a long time. They’d have to be pro’s, imo. The average player isn’t going to have a match like this parked right beside their opponent. But point taken.
