    The new cutlass is fifty thousand doubloons. 50k. 50 big ones. One 5 followed by four 0s. You get the idea.

    Tell me this, how do you jump from 2,500 to 50,000? Realistically who has that amount of doubloons, and why would anyone decide to buy a stinky, smelly, no good sword for that much? I would understand if the price were for the sails, but a sword? It should be around 5,000 to make it match the other prices. Better yet, they should have events to boost the doubloons, since gold and glory/community weekend never gave us extra doubloons.

    Or even better… they should have (careful Rare devs, scary words incoming) LISTENED to the community (especially mark, they keep missing him for some reason) and realized how detrimental this reset was gonna be for a lot of people. They should have a compromise for this if a lot of people were not gonna like it.

    Remember they also said they took a while to figure out the prices.
    Just slop at this stage. Nothing new to see here in their behavior, just disappointment after disappointment.

    I don’t have the amount to buy it, with “I” standing for most of the playerbase

    There are actually so many issues with the pricing. It is a huge outlier when compared to the others, it was announced too late for anyone to realistically save up for, the doubloon reset is highly controversial and heavily disliked (as admitted by the devs), and players don’t think a sword of all things should deserve the 50k mark.

    What bothers me is the jump. Even jumping from 2.5k to 10k is a monumental leap, but 50? That is... Elite

    I think they are intending it as a bragging right item, but what use is there for it if there is noone left to brag to? Any and all decisions made for sea of thieves since captaincy has been completely beyond me, i only log in every season to level it to 100 just because im used to that fomo now but this is getting really tiring.

    It's a weird choice. The sword is there for the early adopters. But they said if you are active during the season they will just give it to you for free once you've obtained 50,000 new doubloons? They weren't very clear on how they were going to retroactively give people this sword but then also doesn't that defeat the purpose of it? Because essentially they will be giving it to maybe 1 million people eventually? Meanwhile inactive players with the currency to buy it will miss it if they don't login. Why not just automatically add it to those players accounts since they can afford it just aren't playing at the moment.

    I would be very interested to know how many people actually can afford it. They might realize that they really didn't understand the data when only like 300 people actually manage to purchase it. That is also assuming most people would even want it. I imagine those with enough doubloons to buy it would just because they are clearly day 1 players who collect cosmetics. Plus they have nothing else to spend the doubloons on as they got all the currency doubloon stuff for free over the years. Will be an interesting eye opener for them perhaps. I would have been able to afford the cutlass if I never took a break and I got all the free stuff over the seasons, and if I didn't foolishly turn doubloons into gold so I could get the Dark Adventurers sails for the V cut that they then removed. The cutlass is the only really good looking cosmetic of the bunch too. Glad they finally revealed the info now. All I had planned for next season was to login and see what the items were and their cost then spend my doubloons and probably uninstall. Next season is just this. Hourglass changes and this Doubloon non-re-balancing. The fact the doubloon reset is just a reset it's not even addressing the source of the problem. SMH. I've spent the past few weeks coming to terms with calling it quits on this game again. The little drip feed of info about this reset that had come out since the initial announcement just kept pushing me more and more toward the sigh of relief moment that I can rest. Wish they would be kind and at least stop adding achievements though. You have commendations we don't need achievements too. You could let us keep our 100% so our OCD can rest.

    @karminiumsot i have 65.814 doubloons, all the items combined cost 54.050 so i will buy/get every single one of them and as a sword user i will probably use it to dissect more then one stinky double gunner.

    It is a weird jump though.

    @Magus104 you don’t get anything for free, what they have mentioned is that even when you are unable to log on during the specific period of time these are purchasable they will spend the doubloons for you, beginning with the most expensive you can afford. So f.i. If you have 52500 doubloons you will get the sword first and then the sail with the remaining doubloons. This is only if you don't purchase manually.

    Problem is, once again, it's catering to the absolute minority and NOT to the players that have been playing the game for a long time that they were supposedly targeting the rewards to. They hyped it up, saying it was taking them time to figure this out, just to release this let down of a dump.
    The sword looks mid (In most people's eyes) sure the minority will like it I guess.
    The title being 50k makes more sense than the sword imho. '
    'Doubloon hoarder'' yet costs 50 for the title?!?!?
    Do they ever think things through? Who is currently hired to work on the game over there?

    Sorry you don’t have 50k to buy a stinky sword.

    I do, and I still think it's trash, and so do many other players that actually do have the Doubloons, go take a stroll on SoT Twitter and see what people are saying about this announcement... The ones that have been in the community for years and have hoarded Doubloons.

    The price of the dubloon cutlass is too much.
    I spent my dubloons on the seasons I've missed. I wish I didn't. I wish I could be refunded for my past dubloon purchases, so I can buy these time-limited ones. Those stuff that I bought - they would still be available after the commemorative event.

    This event pricing tells me I should stop spending currency.
    What if one day, they decided the whatever-currency is also worthless, they'll do the same thing. And I'd regret spending my currency yet again.

    Waiting for Rare to say we "missed the mark again" when pricing these, easy to tell they don't play the game themselves, 50k is a crazy jump when everything else is so cheap, should of put some more thought into it. And i don't understand why its just 1 sword. Surely if it was for the 4 main weapons that would make sense, the amount of time they spend doing stuff for the emporium but can't reskin a couple of weapons. It also caters to only people who run sword, not people who choose to run guns only

    So if the item was for a gun and not a sword. The argument would be other way around? In a sense…it not about the price but fact sword get something of said price and gunners don’t.

    The way they've priced these items reminds me of the global wealth inequality and elitism.
    Keep feeding the low/middle-income class just enough.
    Reward exclusive stuff to the ultra-rich.
    No social mobility. No catching up.

    At some point, after missing out on too many unattainable time-limited stuff, some of us might lose interest in all FOMO stuff.

    I really start to understand now that people genuinely do not understand how broken the doubloon economy is/was.

    As stated before i have 65k+ with nothing to spend them on and also 100m gold in the same situation and i am not even the upper echelon of players with it. I know players that easily have between 2 and 3 times as much.

    Yes the jump is insane, i already said that.

    But in order to not have such a jump and even somewhat have something to show off for higher Doubloon count player they would have needed to make more items and we all know how averse they are to making cosmetics that are not emporium bound.

    In this case i think its a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation.

    What I fail to understand is...players getting so bent over by digital icons, digital currency. Currency you/we earned for free, super easy, barely did anything to achieve. Had 0 value because it had nothing to use it on, second its touched on...now it has worth?
    Just a number, how much you collected.

    Ritual Skulls, so easy to find and we sell them, since it far easier to get the Skull of Destiny.
    Ashen Tombs, found in random Ashen Chests. Ashen Keys? Generous /Humble Gifts? Geez you be crazy not to turn these in. Reaper Chest & Bounties? Good lord... 100 doubloons if you collect just 1 of each.

    So easy to get everyone of these from Forts, Voyages and with recent additions to the game now. You can look at making 1000 in a single game session. (lucky)

    I dont know about that man. I have nearly 5k hours and only 35k doubluunies.
    Cant wait for it to get converted into gold so they can reset gold economy next because they have been abandoning gold and doubloon sinks for years.

    @burnbacon Again. Neglecting to see things from newer players perspectives. I only missed the first 5 seasons and sure I stupidly converted all my doubloons pre seasons into gold due to Rares complete lack of transparency on if they were ever going to use the currency again. But Every time I play I try to min max my doubloon income. Making sure to always save up the doubloon items to sell at max emissary for the little extra boost.

    You got every seasonal doubloon cosmetic for free, on top of the free seasonal doubloons. The way you talk I almost want to assume you play on alliance discords like I used to. When you are on a server where you are gaining 1/2 the value of every doubloon item 5 other crews are selling every hour, then I could picture 1000 in a session. Captaincy ruined any kind of co-op in this game for me. Because it became all about wanting to play on MY ship. I preferred the sloop while alliance servers used 1 galleon and 4-5 brigs. Sure I could have helped them form a server with my Brig, but that wouldn't be a guarantee. Once I started playing solo more my doubloon income really tanked.

    It required a lot of self control when I stopped playing at the introduction of seasons as they added some cool stuff and my theory was if I missed this FOMO because of how nice it was maybe it would help keep me from coming back. I eventually caved though and was happy when they did bring them back. I admit on return after missing so much FOMO my approach to cosmetics and how much time I spent playing changed. So I might have put in 150 hours a season? But at that it took me about 3 seasons to farm up enough doubloons to buy Shackled Phantom Hull - 3000 doubloons & Ferry of the Damned Figurehead - 3000 doubloons. Both those items are like 9001% better than these doubloon FOMO cosmetics. So price to coolness factor certainly doesn't add up for sure. I don't think most people are playing this game and fixating on just farming doubloon loot, but even if you did

    I think for most people it's just the FOMO nature of it. For me not knowing how lack luster the cosmetics would be combined with not knowing the prices had me annoyed. The molten sands fortress giving you what 4 ashen keys, the vault having maybe 8 ashen collectors chests (with no doubloon items inside). That's what maybe 100 doubloons per tedious fort? Also assuming you don't get sank. Then account for most skeleton ships now are useless cargo loot with no ashen chests. Even if you get ashen chests keys are more rare now since we can't by voyages for them to be able to unlock them.

    The fact their concern is this doubloon issue meanwhile 1 fort pays out enough gold to buy the past 5 seasons worth of gold shop cosmetics. But you would need to clear 10 forts to buy 1 past season doubloon hair style. Or nearly 20 forts to buy a past season doubloon jacket. Not sure why I am even trying to explain anything to you when you make up numbers all the time without looking at actual facts and data. Kinda like how Rare isn't even looking at data. They have it all internally. Also curious what you call a session. For me a session is 30+ hours. 2-3 times a season, maybe more if the event is something like last season with the 3 chests of fortune per fort? That was too big an opportunity to pass up since my approach since coming back to the game was to try and play a little more casually than I used to which was maybe 6-10 hours a day every day? If your idea of a session is 4 ish hours... yea you go record you getting 1000 doubloons in that time. Playing normally that is. I don't think many players are going around only working on activities the net doubloons. Even if you were grinding FoTD it's' not a guaranteed doubloon chest you have the useless bounty chests as well worth more pointless gold.

    While a bizarre choice, it's not unprecedented.

    Look back at the Arena closure and the ship sets awarded for hitting the chosen milestones. Level 5 Sea Dogs - something that could literally be achieved without ever having played Arena - got you the 5 base ship sets. Then, a big jump to level 50 and that got you the Good Boy set.

    It'll be interesting to see if - similar to the Good Boy set - they just choose to award the Cutlass to all the SOT Partners regardless of whether or not they actually have enough doubloons.

    If it makes the have-nots feel better, because there is no cosmetic favorite system in this game and because this Cutlass is going to be buried several pages deep, switching to it is going to be unnecessarily painful each and every time.

    Did you read what i wrote? I said it should be all 4 starting weapons at least. As it caters to a very small % of player already who have over 50k, the % of people that will have it and use it is even lower considering it only applies to 1 weapon so very unlikely too see a lot of people with it.

    No lie at all here. I got the ship sets having never even set sail into arena one single time just because I bought a few letters of recommendation from Larinna while buying them for my other companies on the road to pirate legend.

    Very small, and I give those a clap. They played more than most, collected more and shall be rewarded. Such as those who came before us and have Vanguard sails and Day 1 eyepatch. They should stand out.

    So players are upset...Once again because they can't Purchase everything...whoop whoop.
    Nobody cares how much they have, it about the items and cost. IF you cant pay for them, OH WELL! Moving on.
    There gonna be better items in the future, some much nobody will buy because "Missed out"

    Games do this alot. It no mystery or secret. If you didnt partake in the time to collect mean less items, you dont get the random items that nobody is gonna stop to say "OH! you have the doubloon sword!' no they are still gonna attack you with there flame sword, skull daggers, black covered outfit.

    Quote a funny man, "So you get nothing! You Lose! Good Day Sir!" and yet in the end....Ill still come back to this sea to collect more items that will become Rare or fun secrets.

    Why is everyone really upset while most of us players are just...blinking at the crazy others.
    Quote another funny man "The only rules that really matter are these: what a man can do and what a man can't do." and so far...Nobody can't get over the fact you failed to collect enough but a small maybe 1% of players did. OH ...Well.
