SoT Civil War

  • I have just seen an absolutely bloodbath happened on X (or Twitter) that made me realize that nobody likes the game anymore. Rare is desperately trying to claw back their streamers that left for better games, and people are noticing and calling them out. Idk the exact reason for the beef, but it seems like SoT has finally broke its most loyal players.

Maybe instead of making useless updates, they should (and hear me out, this may be hard to understand) make updates DIRECTLY ADDRESSING THE FANBASE. Many people are asking for bug fixes, the removal of seasons and their monthly updates, and more outpost cosmetics, yet there has been no progress for any of this. Instead of making updates that seem cool, make updates that are cool; That'll bring back the fanbase.

When is X never about bloodbath topics between people? Not the best of places atm.

Rare is desperately trying to claw back their streamers that left for better games

Maybe so, Or New games and Streamers just appeal for more content, No content. No Money and SoT they can only do the same silly content every day, which is...just Tucking on ships. :/

make updates DIRECTLY ADDRESSING THE FANBASE.

Such as, What to be exactly?

Many people are asking for bug fixes, the removal of seasons and their monthly updates, and more outpost cosmetics

Only very few. Bug fixes are always in high demand in games. I dont understand removing Seasons. Like the idea of it or the whole "Pass" part as well? So removing, reason to play such as completing tasks...remove that? Monthly Updates, again another thing I dont understand. Remove one thing and switch it with what? 6 month updates? Yearly? None?

Instead of making updates that seem cool, make updates that are cool

Define what you would consider Cool. Frnakly, the Mischief update was Cool and Smugglers was Cool. For many of us it was.

  • 😮Drama?! On Twitter?! neverrrrrrr! 🤣😂

I will give you a list of all the bugs within the game.
Unable to climb ladders, cosmetics not updating (happens on ships, pirates, and weapons), steady high ping regardless of wifi strength, registration issues on EVERYTHING, buying cosmetics will not appear in inventory, random rubberbanding regardless of wifi strength, crates stuck in merchant despite being bought, mermaids not spawning, blackscreening, unable to interact with anything, cannot pull out equipment, stuff in inventory not loading in, and failed dives just to name a few.

Removing seasonal updates helps the devs set their own timelines and release more content per update. Without the set deadlines, they can refurbish any content at their own pace and release more to the people without any issues with pushing back deadlines. They are a team owned by microsoft, so there should be little reason to be flooded with work when they have one of the biggest companies at their disposal.

  • I can say, it's been a while since any of the main three factions (Merchants, Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls) got a new mission type. It'd be nice to see the return of the ledger rewards as well. That always encouraged me to play more often in a month, to try and max out all the emissary tracks.

Just tonight, a local crewmate of mine had a bug where they couldn't pull out any items or weapons. It reset when they died, but despite (and I resort to this only rarely) being on Safer Seas, we soon had rubberbanding and our ship taking off into the skies as the game informed us that we had an unstable connection.

  • Nah we want more paid additions and YouTube yapping about being sorry and undelivering again.

Listen to her community mostly ends in leaning to vocal minitory voice.

I would prefer when Devs stick to their vision of game.

If they have any and I don't belive they have any for quite some time.

The problem is that everyone wants something different. Some people are probably hyped for the new enemy type in S18 and some don't care. They aren't going to please everyone.

For example, (using a suggestion I've seen in one of the replies) I would rather that they don't continue to add to the ledger rewards. There have been a lot of rewards for those, I've done them a million times, adding more doesn't excite me. I don't need more distinctions - I don't care for them. That system signaled to me that it was entering semi-maintenance; a repeating treadmill to keep people playing for artificial reasons. No more crazy commendation requirements either for the same reason. They aren't fun for me, maybe someone else likes them but I do think that leaning into this grind-like content as they have appeared to have been doing for the past few seasons has only been a negative for the playerbase.

Bug fixes are nice, and there are quite a few that have been lingering for ages, but they don't bring in players. They need to have some kind of content each season to drive players to log in again. It would be nice if they could add new mechanics every other season but that might not be possible with the age of the game and tech it's built on.

There is currently already a dev team working on bugfixes as stated in videos of the last few months.

the removal of seasons and their monthly updates,

Having a next update in 4 weeks or 6 weeks won't change much ... it's clear Rare is struggling between having only one team working on new content and keeping a "tight" release schedule (as we have the month delay for S18). I hope they choose for extending the team and not for less new/newish content or a regular 4 month Season.
Having a Seasonal period at least gives an indication on when you should finish the 100 levels of the plunder pass.

    and more outpost cosmetics,

Who wouldn't love more cosmetics outside of the emporium ?
People complaining about the balance between emporium and other mostly forget about the added cosmetics in Plunder Pass, Emissary Leaderboard rewards, trinkets &c and only look what's new and ready to buy in the shops.
To keep Sot afloat, they need to generate income, I doubt they are still getting millions of new players, so they need the income from sales from the Emporium besides whatver gamepass and the like might generate.

The Season Passes are great, but they're basically the sole means by which we get anything outside of the emporium, and half of their contents are locked behind the Emporium's Plunder Pass (also, they're prone to being delayed).

The Ledgers are so painfully slow they're hardly worth thinking about, they've been drip-feeding the same sets since 2021; plus it's not a rare occurrence for them not to even receive new additions with new seasons. If you're caught up, you'll probably just get a pocketwatch and nothing else for the whole season lol.

Trinkets? I don't know of anyone who really likes trinkets, honestly.

The reason people always complain about the disparity between the Outpost and Emporium cosmetics is because it's a comically large disparity.

For literally all of 2025, all the outpost shops got was recolors of the resolute ship and arena weapons, while the emporium gets at minimun an entirely new shipset every month, as well as getting new costumes/clothing/equipment all the time.

  • I honestly havnt been excited for anything since season 8. Flameheart's return briefly had me energized but both the Burning Blade and Flameheart himself amounted to nearly nothing in overal impact, and Reaper's Hideout is still a ramshackle dump. I feel like the massive resources that went into the Monkey Island crossover was the last major allotment of funds/resources for SoT and when it failed to be as big a draw as they hoped, they throttled SoT's developement into what we've been seeing; re-skinned items, re-skinned voyages, re-skinned trienkts, re-skinned trading company. Low effort, low impact, low reward.

  • Just saying the current BIG Streamers for the game and major advocates for the game and brand seem to be moving on to something else. It’s not that “you can only tuck” to make content it’s the lack of players to interact with.

As I write this the are 74 posts on LFG. No one of note is streaming SOT…..

  • @jon-sea-nah I'll let Pace know he's 'no one of note'. ;D

Aye, once you have the Ledger Rewards and maxed out the Faction there is no reason to fly an Emissary other than Guild.

New Ledger Rewards and raise the Faction level to 1000.
Increasing the Faction levels wouldn't need new cosmetics - would be nice to just get an increasing number again for those dopamine hits.

You do now! I like the trinkets; having the goals to guide my play have been great, even when they're a little grindy. Especially then, even. I was sorely disappointed when the totals for the fish mounts were lowered by 87%. The original was a little too much even for me; I managed to sneak out a base level Splashtail and Devilfish mount before the change, but it was hard work! I wish they would maybe chopped the per rank requirement down and left the number of ranks required as-was. Still, it feels a lot better when you've got a reason to play, and to do specific activities. Having those trinkets and titles and cosmetics is a big reason to boot up the game.

  • @mopwieldinghedgehog posted an hour after I made mine……

Shall we talk about the other MANY partners and the game that shall not be named.

We can all make light of this all you want, but coming from someone that literally had zero other games installed for the last 3 years and I play daily….. the game is in a bad state and has better recognize its losing veteran players, streamers, advocates, and not drawing in new players. 74 LFG when it was usually 270+ a year and a half ago……

But you’re right 1 streamer will keep the game in the highlights.

  • @jon-sea-nah Relax, was merely poking a little fun as he had been on for the past five hours when I made my post.

  • @swagalisous7451 X (twitter) has always been a place where people expose their opinion about stuff, ofc that sometimes that will result in opposite views clashing and turning into some Drama especialy when the people involved have Egos or done not so great stuff in the past, its normal and i dont think Rare Devs or Rare Mods should get involved on it.

You are right Sea of Thieves is losing players but this is because of way deeper issues than "bug fixes, the removal of seasons and their monthly updates, and more outpost cosmetics", Everyone is going to other games because the other games are better, like im sorry Rare has been doing some good work and i have to tip my hat to them but its not the greatest thing ever, PvE STILL has no structure to it, no lvl of difficulty no early, mid and end game content, Bosses are not bosses they bullet sponges, That includes the new boss btw, and more stuff that needs fixing (one of this days i will list ut all), However they already make updates " DIRECTLY ADDRESSING THE FANBASE" Drew has been on camera doing God´s work for sometime now.

SOT has been in Civil War since it came out, and honestly that... is kinda the point of the game if you thing about it, do quest or steal them, at some point you going to make enemies, or friends.

  • I am relaxed. The game is treading water currently and all the people in the forums say “it’s always been like this”

When? At launch when there was NOTHING to do?

The devs keep adding stuff but also nerfing the heck out of everything. They are gonna break the game like C.O.D. did this year. The devs REALLY need an ace up the sleeve to get back on track.

Making the shrinking circle just like BR. Vs a timer and or point system that rewards engagement. Cool now they’ll run until they have to and get your ship out asap. Just like the first days of HG, just sail them outta bounds..

Removing the ability to keep running back at a fort as the alliance servers find this annoying….. SO, be faster and get better not force merge a sloop taking it down because they sink. It’s a 1 ship v 5 scenario I’m gonna sink, but with enough persistence and ability we took down many alliance servers. Now we will just get merged.

RELEASE A FULL GAME ON SAFER SEAS! You’re gonna do it anyways, the forums full of “RARE WILL NEVER” yet they always eat their words. Starting with rereleasing old cosmetics that were exclusive and “meant to stay that way”…….. unless you wanna pay us $$$ then we’ll put it in the emporium 😂🤣🤣😂🤣

A full release on safer seas is coming mark my words. It’s the only thing that will draw new players, keep the swabbie/casuals and buy the dev team more time to fix this hellscape.

  • @karminiumsot

"Unable to climb ladders, cosmetics not updating (happens on ships, pirates, and weapons), steady high ping regardless of wifi strength, registration issues on EVERYTHING, buying cosmetics will not appear in inventory, random rubberbanding regardless of wifi strength, crates stuck in merchant despite being bought, mermaids not spawning, blackscreening, unable to interact with anything, cannot pull out equipment, stuff in inventory not loading in, and failed dives just to name a few."

Where in the world are you playing? Genuinely curious. I use the US West Coast server and I NEVER have any of the issues you have listed. (Not saying they don't happen). So, it doesn't sound like a server-side connection issue. I don't play games on wifi. I only use direct connections. Might be the issue right there.

  • Just today i tried to do the new season content and it seemed like everything was getting in my way whether it be players, skeleton ships, lag, bugs or the RNG itself which results in server hopping all over again just like last season. And after all that it doesnt really feel like much of a payoff or you feel you wasted time logging on.

If i was Rare and i saw games like Helldivers, Arc Raiders and even Fallout 76 id be a little concerned right now for how long they can go on without just making a new game. Im aware those games get a lot of flack for some of their content drops especially Helldivers but it feels like night and day compared to SoT. Side tangent but i cant imagine morale working at Microsoft is all too hot either knowing you can lose your job any day while you upkeep this game despite how much cash it rakes in compared to things like Halo.

  • A full release on safer seas is coming mark my words. It’s the only thing that will draw new players, keep the swabbie/casuals and buy the dev team more time to fix this hellscape.

That may always backfire. Never know.
Only players playing will be ones soloing on servers with nothing but bots.
High seas will be converted to someone more or worse and safer seas will be paid for services (oh wait)

Game should remain pvpve and never go to a single player.
They have to change a lot of the content that requires other players so the SS group can have “full access” as you said.

Wanna do Fort of the damned in safer seas? Need them soul flames and one requires…being killed by another pirate. Oh Athena has a voyage for a skull, but you need to be PL first….a lot of work for a fort. XD

  • @burnbacon I agree 100% but safer seas was never gonna happen until it did. Then never will it be for 100% value, until it was.

With the talk of private servers for extra money, how long until they see the dollar signs behind a full on safer seas pve server with all your friends. This will likely kill the game after awhile…… IF they don’t fix the online side of things.

What were the last real new cosmetics that weren’t reskins? Twitch drops? The seasons being late so the staggered the release of the seasons only to still be late….

  • @jon-sea-nah Don't forget "There will never be AI ships in Sea of Thieves, every ship you see on the horizon will be another player" This was stated before the game even came out. Then the #1 most requested feature was AI ships to fill the insanely empty world at the time. Full progression servers will be coming. They HAVE to come. There's literally no reason to gate non hourglass reputation behind PvP. Hourglass is here, still needs improvement and more rewards to make it worth the stress and time spent. Just make high seas more rewarding all around. A fast track for reputation as risk vs reward over safer seas. Rare has literally lost millions of dollars by shunning the PvE audience. "If you dont' like shared worlds, leave" Well they did. 99% of the player base in fact. Though maybe only 60% wanted PvE servers but it was the most requested feature aside from Arena and an Ice biome. And arena just like hourglass never got the updates or new reward structure it needed to thrive. Ironically now we get arena recolors which could have been tiered rewards that would have made the arena grind feel more rewarding. Now we just get them.

  • @magus104

Rare has literally lost millions of dollars by shunning the PvE audience.

Brother 90% of the game is catered towards the PvE audience.

PvP has been the focus of 1 and a half seasons (Hourglass and Burning Blade), out of 18.

Full progression servers will be coming. They HAVE to come.

Rare has said in every post requesting this that full progression servers will never come. They go against the core identity of the game, and if it ever did happen, the game would die completely within 6 months.

Full progress servers would completely throw off the food chain of Higher Seas way more than Safer Seas already has. Player progression would stagnate and leave new players completely unequipped to deal with even the worst PvPers.

Sot was never designed with PvE in mind as a core focus, unlike actual PvE games (Helldivers, DRG, Jumpspace, Destiny etc). The actual gameplay of PvE is mind numbingly boring and carried largely by dopamine spikes that come from unlocking commendations/cosmetics, and the imminent threat of PvP.

  • @worst-tdmer

I hope you're right, but I fear the same like Jon. Rare's been spineless way too often, and their "never" doesn't weigh anything.

Just ask moderators lol 😂 They've been tanking outrage for years every time Rare backtracks and folds

  • @worst-tdmer

Totally agree it’s so focused on PVE. I also agree that it kills the game in a short time.

That being said let’s say you own a business, it wasn’t great for a few years then it trailed off when you changed your menu. Instead of going back to what works you double down and make the menu even more fringe.

You now see that you will probably have to shut the doors soon, but if you make what the people want one last time you may get more profit before you sell.

I think rare is at that point. The game needs WAY to much to fix and a new game is probably easier at this point. While preparing for the next move they pocket a ton of money before it all ends.

Makes sense to me, I hate to see it, but I truly believe it’ll happen sometime 2026.
