SoT contracts

  • For those looking for random variety and/or a way to get more doubloons, what if Rare introduced "contracts"?

Each day, we could have 3 free, easy contracts that appear in our contract journal. Examples would be extremely simple, like dig up 3 pieces of treasure, sell 20k worth of loot, etc.
If we want, we can purchase up to 3 more PvE and 3 more PvP contracts. An Npc from the Bilge Rats and Sea Dogs would each be sitting in the Taverns drinking grog and you simply interact with them to purchase new contracts for gold. PvE contracts would include completing voyages, world events, etc. and PvP contracts would be geared towards HG and sinking/handing in emissary flags via adventure or hg. Yes, we have daily deeds, but they don't offer doubloons and I would wager most of the player base rarely uses the daily deeds to plan their session. Especially considering how difficult it was to find the daily deeds, behind the plethora of clicks and sub menus.

Reasons why this might be a good update: If a new black market is ever added back into SoT with old cosmetics being purchasable for doubloons, it would be great to have a better way to obtain those doubloons without just farming existing niche content that only rewards doubloons. It would also be a great way to get doubloons for all of the existing cosmetics already in the outposts for players who do not currently have large stockpiles of the currency.
This update would also add variety for players who might start a session and not really know what they want to do. Having random contracts to complete each day might help them do content they did not think of doing before or allow them to revisit content they have not done for some time. A section in the Adventures at Sea can be dedicated to completing X amount of contracts to unlock rewards and titles.
Lastly, I think having a way to keep Bilge Rats and Sea Dogs in the game where they can still offer meaningful content would be better than just axing them both outright.

**The contract journal could take up a space on the radial where a current instrument is. All instruments should reside in one space on the radial menu and when you select it, all instruments show up in the drop down. Otherwise Rare could just add a third page on the radial wheel.

  • Hm, this sounds a lot like the daily deeds we had in earlier seasons. They weren't for doubloons, though, they were for gold. I don't know whether doubloons is enough incentive to get people interested in doing them again.

  • Doubloons would get me interested in doing the random little quests. I do not understand why they are so stingy with doubloons but then give out infinite gold readily. I made 5.5mn gold in a single session bouncing from mega stash to mega stash, but in terms of trying to get doubloons I have never been able to make more than a couple thousand in a long devoted grind. I have nothing left I want to spend gold on and over 15000 doubloons worth of stuff I want to spend doubloons on. I have 15 million gold and like 600 doubloons.

I specifically mentioned daily deeds in the post...

  • A newplayer need about 100k doubloons atm to buy all returning seasonal stuff. Defo new sources of doubloons are welcome.

  • A newplayer need about 100k doubloons atm to buy all returning seasonal stuff.

That is if they want any of them, not everything is worth the doubloons.

If that's true, then a system like this really would help!
I think having contracts can help revitalize old activities that players forget about and it can help push players to try new things.
Going off my initial idea, players get 9 individual contracts each day, plus if it worked Rare could add 4 guild/crew contracts that can be purchased at the start of each day. 3 easy ones, 3 PvE centric, and 3 PvP centric ones, with the crew contracts being 2 from each NPC.
Maybe offer one free re-roll for any contract each day. Now, players can choose to ignore contracts entirely, do the ones they like, or for players really needing doubloons; they can attempt to complete all of them each day.
The latter can really help push the community to try all of the existing content instead of only focusing on the newest additions. Having fun/challenging contracts can also open up new playstyles for crews. Having the two NPCs from Bilge Rats and Sea Dogs selling these contracts, sitting inside the taverns where everyone starts would also be a great way for crews to be inspired or outright told what they could attempt that session, especially for those crews who jump on but are unsure of what they all want to do.

  • Thats what quest board should be turned to, instead of being useless rn.

  • @burnbacon That is far from the point, also 100k is too low.

I've always thought the quest board should be turned into an adventure info board. If you could interact with the quest board and see the number of ships/type on the server in one section, upcoming or current events in another corner, dig quests to take or give in another corner, and a link to patch notes and surveys in the final corner.
