Suggestion: Restrict Harpoon Gun Swapping on Enemy Ships

  • Hi everyone,

I wanted to share an idea regarding the current restriction on using the weapon box on enemy ships. I completely understand why this change was made, especially with the addition of the Harpoon Gun — boarding with it and immediately swapping weapons was clearly a balance issue.

That said, I think there might be a simpler and more flexible solution:

Instead of disabling the weapon box entirely on enemy ships, what if only the Harpoon Gun itself couldn’t be swapped once a player is aboard?

The second weapon slot could still be changed (for example, switching from a pistol to a cutlass), while the Harpoon Gun would stay locked.

This way, the main exploit of “board with Harpoon → instantly swap” is prevented, but players who board by other means (ladder, swimming, cannon shot, etc.) can still adjust their secondary weapon.

I feel this approach keeps the intended balance, while also restoring a functionality that many players miss.

I’d love to hear what the community thinks about this — do you think it could work? Are there potential issues I haven’t considered?

    Thanks for reading,

I get the idea but i don't see many people wanting to swap to a single ranged weapon ? they would most likely keep cutlass ?

  • If you can't swap out the grapple there is no reason to swap weapons. Having 2 guns is important because you can shoot faster than someone can eat. If you board while having the harpoon gun equipped, but you didn't use it to board them, would it still be locked?
