Make Reporting Easier – Add an Instant Replay Clip Feature!

  • Right now, Rare needs evidence to act on player misconduct reports—but catching that evidence isn’t always possible without third-party tools.

A built-in “instant replay” feature to capture the last 30–60 seconds of gameplay would let us easily attach proof when submitting a report. This means faster action on bad behavior and a better experience for everyone on the seas.

  • Game Bar is included in every Windows PC and Xbox Console.

You can record the last X amount of seconds (settings depending), and it'll save a clip.

  • Always use the tools you already have. Just got to take time to learn them.

  • I know that there are ways to make our own recordings, but it still requires time and effort to set these tools up and learn how to use them. If Rare is going to require us to provide evidence as part of reporting player misconduct, then they should also provide us the tools to make that easy to capture and send. It would be nice to be able to use a hot-key to capture the last 60 seconds of game-play, then navigate to report a player and have an option to automatically attach the most recent clip to the report.

  • Steam has a nice feature that records a rolling block of footage. I have it set for the last 2 hours are being constantly recorded. It helpful that you don't have to manually take a clip. Xbox game bar on pc can be set for last 10 minutes, but you have to manually clip it. Is the xbox console still only 3 minute?

I've been trying to set this up all morning and it looks like this feature is not supported with Sea of Thieves. Best I can do seems to be to start and stop recording manually

On my pc I had the same issue with any game I was playing. Some pc hardware brands aren’t compatible with game bar clipping, so the best alternative is to download a recording software. I used OBS bc it’s free and it works really well. You can set keybinds too, to start and stop a replay buffer, allowing you to clip with another keybind.
    Hope this helps, sailor

This is something we brought up over a year ago (March 2024) as a bug with the game and Game Bar. If you're on certain versions of Windows 10, Game Bar doesn't recognise Sea of Thieves, especially the Steam version.

It started working for me recently when I did a full reinstall of Windows 10, but by that time I had already gotten used to using the Steam Game DVR feature instead, which is far more reliable, and you can set it per game or globally. You can enable it and set a shortcut in your Steam settings.

  • You know what would be insane? If they added some sort of feature where they tracked the things players said in the text chat on their own game in their own servers. So when a player tells me to kill myself over and over with slurs attached the game would like... know that that person is spamming slurs instead of me having to take a video or screenshot. They can't ban someone for using slurs and hateful text speech in their own game for some reason without me having to provide them logs that I have to record myself of something that happened in their game on their servers. I would suggest they add something much more basic first, a feature to record the recent chat logs so we don't have to.

  • You are absolutely right there are too many players not following a pirate code and rare is not actually solving any of the issues. I’m so sick of it.

  • @dettah Report the player and they'll deal with them.

To add to this, I don't even think I can report someone for using slurs unless they are bypassing the slur filter. If they are using a slur, it will appear as stars, and this game has censored the word "infants" in chat recently, so there is no way to know if someone is using slurs at all from a plyer PoV. This game also has a live transcription feature for in game voice chat, so why can that not be used when reporting a plyer for saying slurs? The game knows they are saying slurs because it censors them. I get that they have to be careful, since again, the system is so bad that it commonly gets words comically wrong, and could think you are saying slurs when you aren't, but coupling that feature with reports, could make banning for hateful speech so much easier, so individual players don't have to provide evidence to the multi million dollar corporation for what happens in their own game.

  • @kianonboard i do and they always require more evidence, lets not add redundant comments Kianonboard, lets assume if we are here in the forums requesting additional resources, that we have already exhausted the ones we have.

This. They only need to take a glance at Rocket League and their autoban system for toxic language. Each consecutive offense, the longer the ban.

They also have words/slurs that are ranked. Some slurs will automatically give you longer bans than some others (for example, the self-harm one that you mentioned on first offense is between 3d and a week, can't remember exactly, was quite some time ago), and also number of slurs stack on each other. So multiple slurs = longer ban. Rocket League's chat filtering system is amazing. I know this directly from the inside, cuz I was outsourced as tech support for 3y 😂 And had hundreds of ban appeal tickets. There were 3 tiers of slurs, at that time (2019-2022). Don't know about before/after.

Idk if I maybe had 2 false positive flag cases for that entire time.

Problem solved. Clowns would instantly learn how to behave.

The only reason I think why they still didn't do this (or won't do it), is if they don't wanna deal exactly with those hundreds upon hundreds of ban appeals. That's my best guess. Idk if they have enough workforce to deal with all of the emotional losers lol.

At one point, in Psyonix there was around 120 tech/customer support agents across the entire support team (including L2 and L3 agents), some of them moved from Epic after they acquired Psyonix.

Can't say the same for Rare.

  • @r3vanns Yeah I doubt that Rare wants to deal with the amount of people who would be auto banned for the abuse. That said, maybe if they knew that there was consequences for their actions, they might not do it at all.

So many games don't have an issue with this sort of conduct. COD used to but it's long since been dealt with.
