Issues and Recommendations

  • First of all, hello to all pirates
I am writing using translation software, I hope you understand. I apologize in advance for any translation mistakes.

I've been playing this game since 2019 and have seen many seasons, good and bad. But now I realize that this game is not what it used to be, which is sad for me. Sometimes I share suggestions here, sometimes I share problems, but I still want to point out that there are many problems. I hope the dev team takes what I've written here seriously, at least a little.

Let’s talk about the parts of the game I don’t like. I won’t go into detail about them!

1 - The ocean waves in the game are poorly calibrated for the slope, meaning the map
In the “The Wilds” section, everything is fine, the ship doesn’t sway much, but
in the “The Ancient Isles” section, the front of the ship dips into the water, and you have to constantly hold the rudder; otherwise, the ship drifts off in another direction. What I'm trying to say is that this isn't good and it's not enjoyable. I hope these ocean waves can be reviewed again.

2 - The storm settings in the game need to be adjusted. As far as I can tell, it keeps circling around the middle of the game, which can be bad for single players. I think it should also go to the outer parts of the map and create a longer loop, like starting from point A1 and going all the way to Z26. That would be much better.

3 - In the game, only one task appears each time, and this has remained the same since 2018. Instead, at least two or three tasks should appear simultaneously on each server. This would be much better for players, and people would not have to spend hours searching for a server to find a task. It would also reduce server congestion and make the game more competitive. Of course, we can determine how and in what order these quests appear in different parts of the map. For example, we could have “Ashen Winds - Ghost Fleet - Skeleton Fort” appearing simultaneously. This would make the game much more efficient and competitive.

4- The Skeleton Fleet should be removed from the center of the game and moved to a more open area. For example, it should be moved to position C22 and the number of ships should be increased. Of course, the treasure should also be adjusted accordingly. For example, there should be 4 small skeleton ships and 3 large skeleton galleons for a single player, and their power levels should be reduced. Otherwise, new players may find this task too challenging.

5- I think there are too many large rocks in the oceans in the game. A flat ocean always looks better and feels better. I think these large rocks in the game are excessive and it would be better to remove them from the game.

6- Small boats should have small sails, but not all of them, of course. It would be much better and more fun if some of them had this feature.

7- The game should feature new islands and mysterious underground cities, as well as exciting obstacle courses that resemble mazes.
There should be a system where pirates can gather and gamble, with money and betting involved. There should be an island where they can engage in gun duels, i.e., TDM.
There should be funny things like hitting another pirate's head with an oar, new snake models, new animals, and eagles, etc.

If the waves make you go one way , don't set your wheel straight but a bit opposed

2 - The storm settings in the game need to be adjusted. As far as I can tell, it keeps circling around the middle of the game, which can be bad for single players. I think it should also go to the outer parts of the map and create a longer loop, like starting from point A1 and going all the way to Z26. That would be much better.

First of all, the storm doesn't go into The Roar, guess the pressure of those volcanoes keeps it away.
There is a lot of non-used space at the edges of the map where hardly any ship ventures, while I find the storm annoying, it should not be dispersed so much that you hardly ever enounter it

With "task", I assume you mean world events. You can dive to them nowadays (except for the Fort of Fortune, Burning Blade and the Fort of the Damned, the latter can be started by yourself), so if you want to do a Fort, Ghostfleet, Fleet or Ashen Lord, you can do them quite easily even if you're on a server with another World Event, just by choosing the correct Raid Voyage.

Having more than one World Event on a server would make it
    a) very hard to play on the server as it would consume a lot of server resources
    b) do the opposite what you're trying to accomplish, if there is only one Event going on, PvP oriented people and people who want to do the event would go to that one, while if there are three or even just two, from the 6 crews on a server I doubt many would go to the same one.

I liked it when the Fleet was in different areas, though with more going on on the servers, it was going to be a problem to have the fleet in those places. I'd like it if it was in more places.

5- I think there are too many large rocks in the oceans in the game. A flat ocean always looks better and feels better. I think these large rocks in the game are excessive and it would be better to remove them from the game.

The Seas could do with less Tall Tale portals, for sure. Now that you can dive to them, having them next to all Outposts seems redundant.

6- Small boats should have small sails, but not all of them, of course. It would be much better and more fun if some of them had this feature.

Instead of the current sails, or together with the current sails.
Might be an issue for some designs if there are triangle sails that would mess with those designs.

7- The game should feature new islands and mysterious underground cities, as well as exciting obstacle courses that resemble mazes.

There are 9 locations with underground eh undersea areas, try those first.
Also, some islands also have underwater locations.

There should be a system where pirates can gather and gamble, with money and betting involved.

No, gambling would change the rating of the game and would primarily be used to "transfer gold / doubloons" between characters. Also, people might comlain that their game of Liar's Dice or blackjack is interupted by some other pirates. We do not need more activities that keep people from the sea or from doing tasks during sailing.

There should be an island where they can engage in gun duels, i.e., TDM.

No, wait for the Custom Servers.

There should be funny things like hitting another pirate's head with an oar, new snake models, new animals, and eagles, etc.

Emote with Fish slapping dance would be fun.

    1. The wave sizes or "roughness" is randomized. Sometimes you'll have smooth waves, other times you'll have choppy, rough waves. It keeps sailing somewhat interesting. If there was no ocean sway I'd fall asleep faster than I already do.
    2. I might be wrong but I believe storms are randomized with a set path. It's always going to be different, hence the storm always showing up at the worst time.
    3. Multiple world events in a single server would melt Rare's hardware. They have a hard enough time getting two boats to connect for hourglass. It's a cool idea, but not possible (from what we're led to believe).
    4. I think the fleet already spawns in the largest possible spot on the map, unless you're suggesting putting it on the outskirts towards the red sea.
    5. Big rocks make sailing somewhat interesting. I don't agree that flatter, more barren seas are better. Sailing already puts me to sleep fast enough.
    6. Smaller sails on a sloop would be nice, but I don't see Rare redesigning ships any time soon. They asked on a YT post if players wanted to see a new area or a new ship and unanimously everyone wanted a new area or something new to discover / fight. New ships are a cool idea, but let's get the ones we have working before we add new ones. Captaincy still bugs and doesn't display ship names properly.
    7. I agree, there should be designated areas. I would love a tdm island or party island. The tavern and forts don't cut it. Arena is a faint memory now and no one who joined late has a clear idea of what TDM'ing even is. I'd love to see people get hooked on two taps.

I like some of your recommendations, but if Rare is coming up with "Dark Ancients" and expecting my jaw to drop they gotta keep cooking. We gotta see something actually cool or something that actually works.

I think there is a misunderstanding in Article 6. I did not suggest “slop” but “boat.”

  • The Ancient Isles” section, the front of the ship dips into the water, and you have to constantly hold the rudder

Not unless you find the sweet spot. You don’t have to hold it straight to go straight XD

Besides. It’s the ocean and waves “do this”

The storm settings in the game need to be adjusted. As far as I can tell, it keeps circling around the middle of the game, which can be bad for single players

Forgot the site but use the storm tracker and you notice it doesn’t.
And how is it bad for single players again? How does it circling the map bad for solo? I’ve never had issues.
    What is the issues?

In the game, only one task appears each time, and this has remained the same since 2018.

They mean “world events” took me a moment
Game can barely handle that, and if there were more than one. It won’t be competitive, players will focus the more high value one. Idk where you got that idea.
Reduced congestion? I think you’re getting stuff backwards. We recently just got Kraken allowed to appear during other world events

I think there are too many large rocks in the oceans in the game

I can guess why they hate hate the rocks. It not about looking better. Fact they crash into them more often XD Rocks are fine. They make the ocean more visually better and not flat. Nobody likes flat lands.

Small boats should have small sails, but not all of them, of course

“Not all of them”. But there only one smal boat…

There should be a system where pirates can gather and gamble, with money and betting involved

If you know a loophole in how adding gambling won’t change the game rating. That be nice

  • @burnbacon
I didn't understand a word they were saying. You must be one of those old-fashioned people who don't want any innovation in the game.

  • All waves come from the northwest, so whenever you're sailing in that direction, regardless of region, you will be pushed the side and experience "choppier" water. However, I agree that the waves in this game have deteriorated in quality, specifically when it comes to the sloop. Also, the storms pattern is pretty good, and you can look up "Sea of Thieves Storm Tracker" to see it's current and future movements through the server. Finally, I agree this game needs to shake things up a little more. TDM doesn't really need an official implementation now that we're getting full private servers, but I would like to see them explore ideas like caves, labyrinths, etc.
