Improve Safer Seas so it doesn't feel like I'm being punished for not wanting to engage in PVP

So I understand that Safer Seas is meant to be for those who just wish to pirate without the fear or risk of PVP and that makes sense and I'm not saying that Safer Seas should be the same as high seas because it shouldn't, but it also shouldn't feel like I'm being punished for just wanting to hangout with my friends and family without having to worry about hearing some random person scream slurs through the TV in front of my 4 & 7 year old nephew & niece.

The 2 main issues with Safer Seas for me is 1 I can't use my captained ship (that I earned and paid for) in safer seas when I should be able to, and 2 the factions are restricted to only level 25 out of the 1000 levels that exist for every faction!

Obviously I don't want guild ships or anything like that because I'm not trying to raise an emissary for the sovereign, but I should at least be able to use my personal captained ships in Safer Seas and be able to sell my loot to the sovereign so I don't have to carry all of the individual loot to all of the different NPCs at every outpost (which is awful and terrible and is why captaincy was added to the game to fix that problem)

If you really think it's such a problem having captained ships in Safer Seas then don't allow players to earn any of the PVP ship milestones in safer seas and only allow players to earn the PVE ones (like fishing which is already an awful horrible grind that's only made 10,000× worse by having to do it in public lobbies where you get attacked and sank every 5 seconds)

Or just disable earning ship milestone progress entirely in safer seas, just let me use my captained ships in Safer Seas so I can sell my loot to the sovereign so I don't have to spend 45+ minutes selling loot!

As for the faction level restrictions just remove them entirely! Or if you don't want players earning the rings you get from the distinctions then change the maximum level allowed in safer seas from level 25 to level 100 so that players can actually become pirate legend (which is the single most basic thing in the game and is what makes you a real player and signifies that you've basically completed the tutorial and now know how to play the game).

If the maximum level is changed to exactly 100 then players can't reach the 1st distinction and they can't earn any of those fancy rings unless they go into high seas to do so.

These two changes would make Safer Seas actually feel like a safe place for me and my friends and family to be able to play the game without making me feel like I'm being punished for wanting to play without the fear of my 4 & 7 year old niece & nephew learning what the n word is -_-

So Rare PLEASE allow us to use our personal captained ships in Safer Seas so we can sell our loot to the sovereign and also raise the level restrictions to at least level 100 and not only level 25 so that I can actually teach my nephew about being a pirate legend and help him earn that so he at least feels like he achieved something in this game (because I'm absolutely not letting him touch public servers until he's at least 13 with how many toxic kids are in public lobbies screaming the n word every 5 seconds -_-)

  • But, you are being punished for not wanting to pvp. Always have been. 🌎👨‍🚀👈👨‍🚀

  • You can mute all other crew, so ur young family members don't have to deal with toxic chat. Use this link:

Set "Others can communicate with voice, text, or invites" to "Blocked".

I've played with young children in the High Seas. These children understand PVP and have accepted that being sunk is part of the game. They understand how to be alert, how to steer the ship, how to manage sails, how to shoot cannons, fight, etc. and not everyone is friendly. If your 4-year-old niece and 7-year-old nephew are not ready for that, they're not ready for Pirate Legend.

I suggest that you focus on finishing the Tall Tales with your young family members. As they progress through these tall tales, they'll be exposed to some naval and TDM combat, and see a large variety of environments.

Also, if they can finish the skelly fleet and/or ghost fleet successfully in safer seas, that'd be a good enough milestone for most 4-year-olds and 7-year-olds.

  • @m1ke-da-1ke mute other crews, and you shouldn’t be able to get pirate legend in safer seas because the point of a pirate game is to get loot and steal loot. Why would a “pirate legend” be scared of other pirates and not fight for his loot

  • Safer Seas isnt a punishment, its a reward for people like yourself.

  • Safer Seas is not meant to be a safe space for those who want to avoid player interaction, it is supposed to be some kind of tutorial before you go to High Seas. It takes hundreds and hundreds of hours to learn the ropes, that's just how the game is. That kind of commitment and/or dedication is definitely not for everyone.

If, however, you decide to stay on Safer Seas forever, then that's on you -and to each their own, go for it if it pleases you. I can understand many reasons why you would want to avoid other crews in certain situations (like playing with your kids, where I would completely agree with you if they are under certain ages), but the current limitations on faction levels are there as an incentive for people to play the game as it is really meant to be played -or if you don't like that phrasing: as the devs always envisioned, a PvEvP sandbox. I do think you should be able to use your captained ship, though.

I'm not trying to preach at all, but kids ages 4 and 7 should learn to enjoy spending time or playing a game with the family; let the achieving thing for the adults. I get what you mean, but there's plenty of titles they can get and stuff they can complete that might help them get a sense of accomplishment if that's what you strive for.

  • You don’t want to engage in PvP? Shouldn’t have bought a PvPvE game. It’s simple as that.

  • Just admit you want SoT to be a single player game.

  • Captaincy was added to fix the problem of it taking too long to sell loot so players would often have their ships attacked by someone who was 3 islands away when they started selling before they could finish. If you have no risk of being sunk by a player, you have no need for the sovereign. Sovs exist in the same manner as emissary does. It's something to try to boost speed in online play so that people have a reason to have more reward. In the same way that emissary exists to reward online players for participating in PVP, the sovs exist as a reward for players in a PVPcentric world sell fast enough to be viable do your PVE stuff and escape.

PL is what signifies you're a real player? Based on the xbox achievements, only 1/40th of players have PL. Even if you assume half of those are people who played it on gamepass once and never again, that means that 19/20 people in the game ARE NOT PIRATE LEGEND

Won't you think of the children!!! Why don't you? Firstly, report those types of people, secondly, if you know you are likely to experience players saying those things, you can disable player voices in the menu so anyone nearby won't be able to say anything anyone in the room can hear. Alternately, you could wear headphones, so you can still talk to people, but the children around you can't hear any of it. Instead of pointing fingers, maybe think back to who is causing them to be exposed to those things you claim they are exposed to.

  • @m1ke-da-1ke

How about we stop associating “slurs” with pvp. This so often seems to be a talking point in anti-pvp post. Go on any social media, facebook for example, look under any “viral post” at the idiocy taking place, are those all pvpers?

PvP is not required for people to behave poorly on the internet. I’ve said this many times before on this forum, but the most nasty encounters I’ve had have been from pirates super angry about being attacked at an event meant to be fought over in the PvPvE game. In HG my fights barely ever have talking, and usually just end with GG. During a normal session, though, when loot is on the line, many people have some things to say.

This PvPvE game is very clearly designed with player conflict in mind; big clouds in the sky, markers on the map, tucking and sneaking commendations, sink other pirates and sell emissaries of various kinds commendations, reapers ability to track emissaries, and this list goes on. What game did you think you purchased? And now you’re being “punished”. Smh

  • The game design and intent for Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure, and it always will be. Those who wish to play in the confines of Safer Seas will always have the option but we will not bring the rewards and activities in line with those of High Seas when many of the restrictions are in place due to the risk vs reward factor that is inherent in Sea of Thieves - removing any risk means rewards must be balanced accordingly.

Safer Seas will act not only as a safe space for our Tall Tale players but also for families with children who just want to pirate, for people who want to play the game but learn the ropes and it will organically feed into Adventure mode, keeping the player pool there healthy and upskilled as they've learned the mechanics.

This is not only useful for new players but also families and players with accessibility needs - the whole game suddenly becomes available in a way it hasn't before, letting them naturally progress to High Seas and become a Pirate Legend. SoT has grown a huge amount in 5 years and it can be fairly overwhelming.

The borders put in Safer Seas mean that to experience the full depth and breadth of the game you will have to hit the high seas BUT if you're playing with your family you don't have to, you can just enjoy the game and have fun as a family.
