so a monthly fee for safer seas but you still cant lvl past 40? whats the point?

  • you keep missing the mark with safer seas. yes A LOT of people will pay you a monthly fee for making fleets in safer seas.... however if they cant progress theres no point. that would be a financial burden on them and they literally have nothing to gain from it. they need captaincy, athena, no level restriction.

and again like i said in my previous post rather than restricting safer seas we just need more incentives to play on high seas so it balances out. (which sorry mods had literally no idea a safer seas change was actually coming, and im sure they might elaborate on it more later)

  • I was going to post the same rant but I will just add onto yours here...

This game is SUPPOSED to be a sandbox but if you want to play in a private session then you get a gold/level penalty, well neither FLEETS nor CUSTOM SEAS will fix that.

You are still trying to force us into public PVP servers so it isn't really a sandbox if we can't do anything without being bothered by reapers or having penalties/handicaps.

There are already incentives to play high seas like Reapers being able to get bonuses on all treasure types, not to mention being able to turn in multiple grade 5 emissary flags.

The lack of captaincy in safer seas still amazes me too, I can understand an argument for the gold handicap even though I disagree, but there's no reason to remove captaincy.

Why even add more features like 'fleets' to safer seas if you're not going to remove the penalties or add captaincy, I don't know why your developers keep doing half-baked updates.

Players will now be able to play in 'minecraft creative mode' with no problem but if we want to play 'survival mode' alone then we're still penalized, does that really make any sense?

So again I will ask what these developers are so afraid of with safer seas? If it's about players making too much gold, I think there is plenty of stuff to buy in the shops to keep them busy. If you're worried about the public PVP servers being empty, that should tell you that maybe not so many people WANT to pvp as you first thought. I just can't understand the thought process of keeping safer seas so restricted, especially with all these new updates happening.

  • The point is to have fun!

  • Gold earned in Safer Seas is 100%, with levels capped at 25 I believe.

There is also no fee for Safer Seas.

OP seems to be confused all around.

  • Safer seas fleets is just safer seas but with fleets. Custom servers are a different thing with no progression at all. You do not pay for safer seas fleets(I think), you do pay for custom servers.

  • A LOT of people will pay you a monthly fee for making fleets in safer seas.... however if they cant progress theres no point.

You can progress...Earn gold and Doubloons, level all the factions up to the limit. Learn about the game and how to survive...
Then complete your adventure in the FREE version.

that would be a financial burden on them and they literally have nothing to gain from it.

Yup, kids parents are gonna have to explain why they spent $$ on a service when they could of done everything for free...

  • There seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding about these recently announced privat servers. From what the devs revealed these servers are mostly useful for content creation and organizing events, that's it. Setting a price for that kind of service seems fair.

    PvPvE game…

  • @metal-ravage

True. And like all things dev reveal followed by misunderstanding. It won’t stop players from complaining or wanting to”more” and demanding it so.

  • @keylessword4029

'we just need more incentives to play on high seas'

What incentives do you need to play on High Seas?

Has that been confirmed? While watching the community direct, that's exactly how I interpretted it. However, some of the youtube summaries (by various partners/content creators) suggest that the safer seas fleet mode might be included in the premium subscription. I'm of the opinion that Safer seas fleet should be free, but a reasonable charge for full custom servers is fair.

  • @roller-108 sagte in so a monthly fee for safer seas but you still cant lvl past 40? whats the point?:

All I wanted is to fight my mates on their ship and me on mine without going through hourglass ,I thought they were going to let us do this on safer seas but I was to hopeful .

I mean you can do that on customservers, so your getting exactly what you wanted.

You probbaly can do it as well on the Fleet servers.

  • @pc-monkfish More variety. SOT is really grindy and repetitive. And it seems like some of the more tenured players find it boring. And I feel like they desperately need some more tall tales (that you don't have to do five times to complete the commendation, what a grind that is) or some kind of flavorful pirate experience. Every voyage feels like a fetch quest. Every island feels like the same island.

  • @fry9889 I can't say it's been confirmed or not, though it makes logical sense. Though this is rare, who thought people wanted Pirate Profiles so they could start their character over instead of having a second pirate doll to dress with your pirate dress up clothes.

No worries. I wasn't sure if I missed an news post or something. We'll find out in due time.

  • The point is to keep a player base in the main game.

  • To clarify, SS is free but you can subscribe to get a private server where you can control the game rules (crew limits, weather, world events).
Think of it like fallout 76’s private servers

  • @marinemike said in so a monthly fee for safer seas but you still cant lvl past 40? whats the point?:

You'll be able to fight against your friends and get better at PvP without being crushed in Hourglass. If you have lots of friends you'll likely be able to do quests and adventures with more than 4 people. That's a pretty big deal.

Honestly, I cannot stand the level of entitlement that players such as yourself have especially when the developers have repeatedly said that the game they wanted to make had players unaware of the intentions of other players and that players will always be the largest threat in the game.

As much as I want Sea of Thieves to succeed, I certainly want it to be in the way that was initially planned, and this deviation to please everyone has cost them time and resources.

I legitimately hope they make money off you folks and are able to stick to the core vision.

  • @potatosord

That was also my understanding of 'Fleets' and 'Custom Seas' (Custom is a paid feature and Fleets is just an update to SS).

I think they could maybe have elaborated a bit more on 'Fleets' for clarity's sake (Example: Are players forced to sail with friendly ships, like in those 'Alliance Servers' or can they battle each other?)

Maybe they did mention it and I missed it, but I don't think I heard anything on it.

I would imagine that just allowing other ships to join in Safer Seas would mean that ship battle was possible, since the opposite would actually require code changes.

  • @capt-greldik Many other games like GTA or MINECRAFT or ARC RAIDERS are also PvPvE but they all have REAL private/pve servers or PVP toggles/modes with guess what - NO RESTRICTIONS! So obviously if other games can do it then sea of thieves can too, without losing all of their players. So everyone needs to stop worrying about the high seas being empty, the people that actually want PVP will always be there, and there's only 4 or 5 other boats on the ocean anyways so it's not like you're going from boats everywhere around you down to zero lol.
