Too many cheaters in Hourglass!

  • I know the fight against cheaters is an ongoing battle and I appreciate the efforts made by the team to mitigate the issue

    BUT..

Seriously, at least on EU, those people are everywhere in Hourglass, some subtle, some less subtle, boosters, full on cheater crews, regular crews with one or two cheaters on board, you name it. It's honestly disheartening to have streaks be ended almost everytime by those types of players.

The first few months of the anticheat being introduced were some of the best HG has ever been, but now that the cheating community clearly has found a way past it, what are we to do ?

I've seen some suggestions regarding gatekeeping access to HG to brand new accounts, which more often than not are the accounts being used by those type of individuals. Alongside the (hopefully) anticheat updates, making it extra tedious for cheaters to access HG seems like the only proper way to preserve the game's integrity.

I'm honestly fed up and baffled by the scale of this issue on a game that has so little competitive elements to it.

  • Reporting players clearly doesn't help enough. We have to help the devs by telling them what's happening in detail. Just telling that there are cheaters won't help them to program a rule that prevents the cheating.

Myself I reported 4 players on a sloop and all four of them keep returning to the same sloop from the Ferry. That's something that program code can autodetect and players can be autobanned for it. So if you see another way of cheating, tell the devs what you see.

  • @priet-praat6806

I agree with you, I feel like there could be more detection methods within the code itself.
4 players returning from the ferry to a sloop should be able to be detected by the game as an anomaly.
Also stuff like time spent in the air or even an abnormaly high hit ratio on snipes or cannonballs could and should trigger something within the system.

If the devs are clever about it, they're is bound to be stuff they can implement that would make the cheater's life harder.
For example, when "auto-repair" was a thing, they made it so that you would get instantly banned for ever attempting it, due to it detecting that someone interacting with the shipwright from an abnormaly far distance was bound to be a cheater.

We need more of these detection methods that cover a wider array of the cheating arsenal.

  • @zakouszki Ahoy!

Сhief developer's quote: "I see the comments regularly that we should just stop everything and fix bugs, that isn't going to help us maintain an engaging game and continue to run a successful business"

So don't get your hopes up for improvements to anything in the game.

Nice spin on a complete valid statement from the developer (or would you want people whose skillset is not coding to work on bugs?)

From the same video, he also said the bug fix team is active.

  • Try Brig HG, way better and avoid playing HG after 7-8pm

  • @itz-majman the problem is that too many people avoid HG at all, just like with the Arena before. Unfortunately that motivates HG cheaters to do the same in the open world. I really don't get the fun in playing a teamwork game with cheating, but apparently some people need a confidence boost this way.

  • @priet-praat6806

People play HG only because of the curses, if there weren't there it would be no one there. Cheaters are on aT all timezones but less during the day or less noticeable since there's more casuals playing.

  • I just got matched with a blatant cheater 3 matches in a row. So, my stamp is shutdown until he goes to bed tonight, then we got the other famous one that logs in at night with a new account everyday.

  • @karkona

    That's the unfortunate reality.

Cheater on stamp just means me and my crew have to stop playing for the day or until they get bored.

  • Getting rid of cheaters in hourglass is actually really easy. Just require pirate legend to pledge for hourglass.

This would also solve problems around new players who have unrealistic expectations around pvp and get discouraged/demand changes to the gamemode.

Matchmaking would probably take a hit though, but a worthy sacrifice for better fights and a more healthy gamemode.

Or cheaters would cheat to a rapid PL, then cheat in hourglass.
So all this idea would end up doing is removing a large portion of legit players while not affecting cheaters at all.
It would, in fact, make HG less healthy.

  • @guildar9194 and how would they do that? they cant spawn loot in afaik, so the only way theyd be able to cheat to PL is by stealing loot off other players and getting mass reported/banned in the process.

Unless my terminology is incorrect; Hitting PL just requires Level 50 in 3 factions. None of which require PvP.
They could teleport from island to island, pick up chests, and teleport back to turn them in.

All your idea does is thin the legitimate player pool, and if any cheaters make it to PL; Players will be forced to fight them, because the pool of players is smaller.

  • @guildar9194 that would still take a full day or two of just picking up chests. cheaters arent known for their patience lma o, especially when you add in the fact that their account will likely be banned within a week of first starting hourglass.

the big problem with cheaters right now is its easy for them to get banned, then immediately make a new alt and jump right back in like nothing happened. I really doubt many cheaters would be willing to spend a full day+ of just tping to islands and picking up chests every time they get banned.

  • If you believe a player has been toxic in the game or suspect foul-play, you can report them to Xbox Live here. You can also submit a support ticket via Rare Player Support. As this is a matter for Support and not the Forums, I'll be dropping anchor here.
