"Diving" feature feedback: glitches & quality of life improvements

  • I wanted to leave some quick feedback about the recent "diving" mechanic since I recently came back to the game after some months hiatus (before it was added). Overall I'm surprisingly okay with it. The rewards are so paultry that it doesn't make much sense to use, and they seemed to make it so that you don't emerge in any area near other pirates. The incentives to use it vs not use it were done very well, so I've never seen it happen that I'm doing something at an island and suddenly there's an enemy ship on me out of nowhere.

That being said, I've noticed a glitch with the feature, as well as quality of life improvements that could be made:

    • Glitch: When you emerge from the water, very often your captained ship's name disappears. This also applies to the guild name plack. They just both vanish. I think I've seen them come back if the ship sinks and respawns, but otherwise they're just gone, which isn't great.
    • QoL improvement: When emerging from the water, I think the sails should retain the position/height that you set before going down. It's really annoying to emerge from the water and suddenly have to scramble to raise sails before you crash into an island that's only a couple hundred metres in front of you. This is even worse on a galleon where you basically have no choice but to anchor, raise sails, lift anchor, and reposition. I understand they likely recycled the mechanic from the war table diving feature, where it makes sense to automatically put your sails fully down for the start of the battle. But for diving towards a voyage objective it feels very clunky. If I go under the water at a slow but steady sail speed, I'd expect to emerge likewise.

That's all! Thanks for reading :)

Not a problem when the crew do their tasks; it might be a problem for one-person galleon &c or when crew is not paying attention; but that's on the crew IMHO.
