Private Servers

  • Safer Seas doesn't quite offer the experience a private server that you could host off your own server computer and not only be able to play with friends but have each able to join the server in their own boat. I have a fairly large group of friends who own the game 10+ and we like the idea of just playing against eachother. I'm fully aware that the progress made there should not go to public servers and ideally, would be nice to have a separate sort of progress that can't be taken online or, just turn progress off but maybe still allow some ship customizations? Even with progress off, there is still reason to quest, because it's always going to be a big flex to have loads of loot on your boat. It's just unfortunate that partners get to have such a feature, and not everyone else. I hope that I could one day do something like that, and if has been dropped, please reconsider? This is a really special game go us and would be that much more if were able to play privately some day. Thanks for hearing me out, I just wonder if this is asked often enough.

  • @rodentforce while it would be cool i dont see this happening.

Not to mention you would probably need a very expensive computer to be able to run it seeing how hard it can be on top tier azure servers

  • RARE planned on adding custom servers or more like giving access to them for everyone.
I don't know why they stopped working on it.
Maybe they think safer seas is enough, even though safer seas can't be used for big projects or tdms.
I hope we will get access to customservers soon, since they obviously have the capacity to give out a huge amount of serverpower for solo players.
So it shouldn't be a problem at all.

  • @rodentforce Those private servers that partners have access to have 0 progression. And stacking on anything other than a live higher seas server is a big lol.

  • I thought this feature would be cool to have a while ago, to have a private server where my spouse and I could battle against each other. Then I realized that it's not going to help me get better against other players, it'll only help me get better against my spouse. Going against other players, is still the best way to practice getting better in the game. So, having a private server all to my own, wouldn't help me, wouldn't make sense since it'd be zero progression, and pointless overall.

  • @Europa4033 yeah, that's totally fair it will not get you better at pvp, but I'm just looking to share a good time with all of my friends, not a bunch of random people. The progression thing isn't a major deal, but I'm sure there are ways they could work around it or even allow it

  • As someone who is well versed in private servers by now, I can say with my hand on my heart, they’re not worth the hype. There is no need to host a private server when the main game is available to you as well as Safer Seas. Personally, I think if they were going to introduce some sort of multi-ship server, it should be in the form of allowing multiple guild ships to join one server at once. Maximum 3 ships. That way, at least it keeps it from being cheesed too badly, and server alliances cannot take advantage by locking down the server early on.

  • @tesiccl It's like you didn't read a single thing I said, go figure.

  • @rodentforce it’s like you misconstrued everything I said and ignored the rest. Go figure.

  • There are 2 ways to play against eachother. Hop for the same server or dive down in Hourglass.

No need for private servers. Especially when they give you the same reputation and gold like a normal server with no real enemies.

    ? huh private servers give 0 rep/gold.

  • @captain-coel better yet afaik private/custom servers are no longer a thing

  • @callmebackdraft They are. I was on one earlier for Race of Legends. And it was perfect for that.

  • @mantiemo That's just not true

  • @tesiccl you speak for yourself, there's nothing left here for me to argue with you

  • @captain-coel hmm interesting i honestly thought they wrnt the way of the dodo the arena

What would make the 3 ship limit work to balance things out, in your opinion?

I'm ambivalent towards this topic. I've run into the issue where I'm part of a group that's one person too large to play together, which is unfortunate, cause then we have to decide who sits that one out. I also think it'd be nice to join inexperienced friends on a separate ship in the same server, so they still have to deal with sailing on their own without me or other more experienced player doing everything—a common problem when veteran players mix with new players is that the new player isn't registering half of what's going on at any given time because the veterans are taking care of it, which hinders their learning progress. But then again, I can see the issues too... reaper alliances hunting down and bullying lone ships, people taking control of a whole server and profiting with zero risk, etc

Why make them sit out? Just launch 2 boats, a Brig and a Sloop.

Sure, but you can't be on the same server.

And? You dont need to be on the same server to have fun. Trust me. My group can sometimes have 5 boats out at a time. Sometimes, ill spike a server for us to get 2-3 boats on the same server, but thats rare and takes too much time. We just end up playing in duos/trios/quads. My reccomendation is to just play.

Yes, I know. But everyone is different. I usually play with two or three other friends on a sloop, brig or galleon depending on who's available, while each of us also have other friends to play with and we don't mind who teams up with who for an evening. The group I was referring to here though are a tight gang, most new to the game, some living in the same house, who specifically want to play all together because their plan for the day was to hang out as a group. People like that don't want to split up into separate groups, they'd rather stick together while one watches and comments or whatever, which still makes that person somewhat part of the shared experience. Not what I'd normally do personally, but I see it happen, so I'm sure there are people out there saying "why can't we play this thing together as 6 or 7."

The problem is balance. Allowing people to easily have 2 or 3 boats on the server who's alliance is 100% is unfair to the rest of the boats. People juat need to split up.

Yeah. At the moment, I'd only see it working if it was a Safer Seas private server where more than one ship can join, which I guess is what this thread was about.

  • @captain-coel Well you see, the whole thing was meant to be a private server in the first place and the people you played with would come to a general consensus about rules. So your whole deal about balance is pretty irrelevant. If you had a problem with the PRIVATE server and how it was operated, then you'd just go play in a PUBLIC lobby. Progression does not have to be anything like a normal server, it could be off for all I care, and would be even nicer if it was specifically tied to a character that could only play on private servers. There are plenty of ways to go about it.

I wish the currently available private servers were available to more people. They have 0 progression and are very useful for events. I was on one yesterday for an event. I don't think you need to have a seperate character or seperate progression. The goal is to be used for events or taking photos.

  • @captain-coel that might be neat, but I just want to be able to play with friends that can all have their own boat and we'd all have a blast. If that's possible in the already existing partner private servers, I'm all for it, progression isn't entirely important

  • @rodentforce if you say ''thats not true'' at least explain it

  • @mantiemo Not trying to be like this, but think a little harder bud, maybe even re-read the topic, if you can't come up with anything, then I don't have much more reason to respond to you, you're out here missing the whole point.

  • @blue-sfumato yeah, that's not good enough, too unreliable, and it ends up being open to the public

  • @rodentforce I remember a few years ago they were talking about bringing private servers to the public. I have no idea why that never happened. Maybe one day.

  • @blue-sfumato Yeah, idk what was up with that. Hopefully one day.

  • @rodentforce first of all i’m not your ‘bud’ second of all, explain why i’m wrong. You started the discussion so at least explain why i am wrong in your eyes.

  • @mantiemo Learn to read before you start an argument. I don't owe you anything if you can't even do that.

  • @rodentforce you start the discussion and i am just participating in that. No need to be an total butt to me. Also you are talking about no pogression made but in the same time you are talking about offline progression. ''would be nice to have a separate sort of progress that can't be taken online''
