Pay Curses

  • I come back to this forum where I never got a decent response from a moderator to say that now they put in not one but three paid curses, I guess I'm not the only one who thinks that curses are the most coveted thing in the game and what people like to lose grace by buying something... Rare doing what he does best. (bacon and wolf will say it's okay or something like: if you don't like it, don't buy it).

  • Players have come out and made it clear. They don’t wanna unlock or grind for them. Anything that is grind able gets nerfed or is to difficult from the start.

Besides. The store curses can’t stand toe to toe with the ingame ones. The emporium are meh at best
Plus, rare need to make bank some how and if players are willing to pop out there wallets to look cool, let them

  • Is it that players don't feel satisfied with what's currently available as a reward in game? I dunno. The PvP curses are super amazing and I've spent the time to get most of them. I'm sure that there will be some (commendation locked) curses available as well for when Season 13 drops—I would be surprised and disappointed if there wasn't.

I wish that Rare would actually hide some curses/cosmetics behind a commendation and a small payment for a slightly more enhanced version of that curse. For example, the bone curse has a number of 'tones' that one can unlock by doing various PvE and PvP things. Some of these I think would be better suited as small payments instead of me having to hand in 100 Athena flags—like, yeah, I already PvP a lot and already have the 'essence' of the curse—I'd spend a few dollars to get a variant of it instead of more time.

No interest in the stone curse because, or the stormfish curse because it literally says nothing about me or my play style and communicates nothing to other players since it has no lore or gameplay element behind it—if someone sees me with a PvP curse they know I've been bad on the seas. If someone sees me with the Fates of Fortune set they know I've been dabbling with the FoFs. etc.

Some of the coolest cosmetics in the game end up having 0 value to players because there's no IKEA effect.

    Rare, you listening?

EDIT: Wait—I guess that's what they attempted to do with the stormfish curse. I think people would have been OK with the curse being behind a pay wall if the set actually was unlocked through some commendation. I probably would have been.

  • @burnbacon meaningful earnable ingame content please. either quests or commendation grinds. i wanna earn it. not buy it.

I agree with this take. Players are buying them and that is good for the game.

There are good curses to earn in the game. I am hopeful they introduce more, but if they introduce some in the emporium I think that is fine too.

I'm actually okay if they introduced extra skeleton pieces in the emporium to add to the skeleton curse. I say this as someone with gold bones. I'd prefer more content for the skeleton curse and more pieces, but I'm sure the numbers are clear that 99% of players get the base curse and maybe a few more unlocks but never go further. It would be a great cash flow for the game.

  • @burnbacon I mean I agree the paid curses aren’t that great…… yet

This is a toe tapping in the water to gauge the temperature. If it’s well received, it was, it’ll continue. Why would you NOT make money off of this, but I do think it’s the wrong way. It devalues other curses.

How long until you can get a “partial bones” curse? Or a “starter phantom”? A silver curse

Like ya it’s not the SAME thing but come on.

  • Also it’s funny to me that players will go CRUSH 3 tall tales or 90 COFs in a weekend and then complain that there is no content available and the game is dead. Yet add a grind that you can’t do in a weekend and now it’s “Impossible”?

Is this the “First 48” like if you can’t crack it in 48 hours you just quit?

  • It is just another paid cosmetic and says nothing of a player's in game legacy. I personally see very little difference between these curses and costumes. You see someone with an hourglass curse and you know they have spent a fair amount of time in the mode, you see someone with the lightning curse and know it's someone who spent five bucks in the cash shop.
