I think storage crates and supply crates should be refundable to merchants you buy them from, even if you get a slightly reduced refund price, like maybe -200 gold or something for convenience. It's a small change but I think for certain people it would just kind of feel convenient, we typically use them for looting islands just before we take off so we usually don't even purchase the other supply crates from the merchant or shipwright or whatever but if we did and we really only needed it so we didn't have to make 100 trips to and from the boat because it's kind of just monotony. Like whatever you say about balance, it's just a chore facet of the game that just eats up time. Both on safer seas and high seas. I won't complain about having to find the barrels when some are interactable or anything, there's barrel hide, I just have a particular anecdote that it's kind of a bothersome feeling for. I have enough gold to where I don't care and gold is worthless to me but my friends dont have as much and I feel bad when they buy storage crates or loot it to help. Also the price being 5000, with no difference between high/safer seas where you get barely anything for playing kind of makes it much worse
The thing is, most of my friends play on different schedules because we're all over the country, and were at this threshold where we have 2 people playing consistently together, me and my fiance; and my 2 other friends hop in whenever they're around. So it kind of ends becoming a situation where we have to switch ships if we want to play together, like if one person joins, we have to scuttle and switch to a brig. If another joins after that, we have to scuttle and switch to a galleon. I'm not complaining about the crew sizes, but sometimes it feels bad when we have to sit around and wait otherwise we basically miss out on a ton for committing to playing this game at all due to how they want you to sit through the looting, navigating, all that, etc and it being a sunk cost thing you can't carry between sessions. It'd probably at least bother us a little less if it didn't cost anything to conveniently get started. I'd really prefer if there was an easier way to change your ship or something mid session tbh, like at the shipwright, but I'm sure there's some other reason why that would be imbalanced
