"The Infinite Pirate Generator" is STUPID, please change it!!!!

  • I've been playing Sea of Thieves for a long time and recently I decided to change my pirate but I forgot that the system that RARE uses is FRUSTRATING.

I've been looking for days and Infinite Pirate Generator don't giving me want I search.

I would prefer that they change that with a real classic character creator, relying on chance is just unbearable.

  • You won’t find a pretty pirate, they’re deliberately wonky and battle worn to feel lived in and experienced. Just close your eyes, cycle a few, and pick one at random. I promise they’ll love you as much as you love them.

  • @tenebrae0 they specifically chose for this more rng based system. So you dont have full control of how your character looks

  • @tesiccl thats absolutely untrue. If you search long enough you can get absolutely gorgeous pirates. It just takes forever for no reason. Its a reasonable request to at least implement filters for age sex weight ethnicity

  • @tenebrae0 on the one hand I agree a 1000% it sucks but like it's been said it's by design they don't want you to have the perfect looking character they want you to have the unhinged looking ones it's why iv never changed my pirate I found one I liked and stuck to it

  • They could add some filters to narrow the randomness down a bit, but if you're spending more than 10 minutes picking a pirate you're way too picky. I've generated a dozen or so and I don't have a problem finding a pirate I like within 10 minutes. Just favorite the best ones in the current set and regenerate. Favorite some more until all the slots are taken up, then choose the best one in that set.

The generator is only going to take up a small bit of time at the start of your adventures and then likely never used again, so I can see why Rare isn't going to bother dumping more dev time into a feature like that.

  • I've been looking for days and Infinite Pirate Generator don't giving me want I search.

You wasted days of pirate creating because you can’t find the perfect pirate. That seems like a player issue.

Those days you could be playing.

  • Eh, it is frustrating sure but it sure prevents pirates from looking samey all the time or god forbid, having an optimally-built pirate for PvP like some kind of Fortnite-superhero skin-sweaty tryhards.

Besides, I came to genuinely love the pirate generator. Although it would be nice if Rare could implement some kind of save slots for your pirate so you could switch between saved pirates that you would like to keep. I have seen so many randomized presets that I would have loved to keep but you can't because you are locked into one pirate.

  • 2 things I would like from the Pirate Generator:

    • Pirates that you favorite locks in their appearance, as normal, but their pose is randomized when new pirates are generated. It sucks to have to spin the camera back and forth and lose the spotlight just to get a slightly better view or angle on the pirate. That, and some poses obscure too much or are misleading (your character will never lean that far back or look that far down in-game).
    • Pirates that you favorite will have a weighted effect on newly generated pirates. It sucks that we cannot fine tune how our character looks, but I get it. Doing so would cut down on the variety of pirate looks and allow for horrible abominations to be unleashed. That said, at least let the newly generated pirates look similar to pirate(s) that you favorite. Not clones; just weighted values.
  • @tenebrae0 I personally think this is a good idea
