I just turned in some mermaid and siren gems along with some staffs and I got 1.5x the reward but I also turn other stuff in and got the normal amount. Did I do something wrong? Then I look at my season progress and it seems I leveled up faster than I had expected. I just hate feeling like I got something I didn't earn. Is there something going like a bonus or what (it wasn't during gold rush hours). I did get off leaving some treasure aboard my ship because it felt like the I was getting something I shouldn't have so in my own way I "evened" it out.

I'd have to see exactly what happened to really figure it out accurately but I can say that they pretty much never have gold/rep errors that lean in your favor, typically always people not getting something while issues are happening.
Once in a while commendations will count more than they were intended but that's pretty rare
I highly doubt you got anything that you "didn't earn". You earned it, even if we don't know exactly why.
