crazy xp guild

  • Rare, are you all right? To raise guild level from 58 to 59 I have to win 50 fights in pvp. Is everything okay?

  • @ixxxoloff I hope this is not true. Nobody would enjoy that.

I just don't understand why making everything feel like a slog is the way Rare does things. It's not fun, it's not fun to watch.

If they must insist on ''hundreds of hours of gameplay'' to reach a certain goal, as an example Athena 30, it would make more sense to reward xp on a regular pace and increase the total level to as an example - 100. So you could go from 71 to 74, instead of going from 22.3 to 22.6 in one play session. It's the same thing at the end, but placebo and dopamine work hand in hand.

  • @ixxxoloff Or you have to have a full guild of active players and then only 2 fights are required for each member. :-)
It's totally OK to have grind like that, but it should be balanced for an averagely populated guild.

Or they could have totally skipped the guild levels and ledger and spent that time on social features like chat and the broken login sequence.

Guilds could have raised one of the faction flags and individual crews could choose what faction they want to work on, if any.

Think about it, what if the entire guild level system didn't exist and instead we had guild chat, a MOTD and a guild waiting area, like a tavern, where crews are formed?

Is this accurate? If so it may be a bug!

For me, about 10 wins in hourglass is about enough to gain one guild level. That includes selling 2 Streak 4 hourglasses.

  • @coffeelight5545 xp for winning was equivalent to selling 10 chests

  • It's not a race; what ever happened to playing games you enjoy and levelling up being the icing on the proverbial cake? It's one thing to want to rush levels when the reward is crazy good (hourglass), but another thing entirely when the rewards are mediocre at best like guilds...

  • @lordqulex True, but making it such a drag to reach 15 makes no sense, when doing a simple sea fort would probably push any faction to 10 at least. The earnings are 'nerfed' to the point where it's not really fun to even care about those guilds.

You can't communicate with anyone or give the guild a purpose/goal. You have all these ships pledged, but you wouldn't start a solo galleon hoping some random person you invited will come online would you?

So it is basically just having maximum of 24 players, most will probably be random, sailing under one banner, because why not? This is for streamers first and Sea of Thieves players/game second. I hope they will get developed more over time and will make sense why they are in the game....At the moment they just feel like they exist, but nobody could really tell you why, unlike anything else in game really.

Guilds definitely work if people create their own world within them but as designed it's a grind where people are becoming more and more aware of how much ridiculous cheesing actually happens in this game. It's just flat out unfun for a lot of people to put in effort when they know the fix is in around them.

There really isn't much as a part of the design that really helps much of anyone outside of the predictable minority of players that go extreme on this stuff.

It's not even really just "take your time" it's more like completely ignore the design altogether and try to make the best out of it, which isn't something that a lot will attach to for longer than just a month or two.

Maybe they pull a Captaincy and pop in with dramatic nerfs but by time that happens there will be a lot less interest and more burn out.

  • Why is it always THIS TAKES TOO LONG? If you could max it in a weekend you’d complain the seas are dead now. So which is it? Hourglass everyone wants to be easier, now this. Just make it so everybody has everything as soon as they log in. Problem solved. Now you can go run around as a ghost cook. I could care less how guilds progress, it’ll happen over time.

Yes the guilds work better if you know a lot of players, my main guild has 3 dudes and is level 4, don’t care it’ll happen. How are guilds for streamers? Honestly I’m sure most pvp streamers won’t have a HUGE guild.

Guilds could have been successful without any serious grind at all.

It really just took the (imo) worst parts of different situations around the game and made a not-so-tasty stew out of them.

It's got some of the worst parts of alliance servers in there, some of the worst parts of twitch/discord stuff in there, but lacking the meat and potatoes of community.

A lot of people participating aren't sailing around having a good time like you and perhaps others are. It's being treated like a job for others, power imbalances are being used to manipulate for effort, cheesing/exploiting is rampant. The ledger is going to be discouraging and off-putting to many.

Some cosmetics, social features, and some in game events was all it needed to be successful in season 10, people still have cofs to do, will have more pvp content, and safer seas on the horizon. Grind has far more negative effects than positive on content that is supposed to be about getting people closer.

I had the rowboat stuff done in darn near my first server of the season. I still love the rowboat stuff, not everything needs a grind, if it's enjoyable and adds qol to a session people will do it.

  • @wolfmanbush but it’s the PLAYER making it a “job” not Rare. I have almost completed my 60 COFS and Reapers chests already…. Because I’m a thievin pirate. It’s what I do, I love to tuck and steal! I’m not doing it because some little ticker bar at the bottom tells me I have to, I do it because it’s fun. I do HG and love it, mostly. So what I’m saying is just play the game, the levels will come. Not one thing was given to to person at the top level guild that wasn’t given to someone who just bought the game…. Sure some cosmetics….. nothing of real merit. So hop on and play, meet someone new and fun? Invite’em to your guild and join theirs. It’ll all be ok and it’ll all buff out

Behavior isn't on designer but the design is. If design leans into unhealthy approach then it is appropriate to alter design. FOMO in games has a long history of going too far, players made the decision to participate but it clearly was not leading to healthy longevity of participation in many cases.

People don't have to do it but many will get caught up in it and it has negative effects on the individual and the environment as a whole.

HG had a LOT of this.

It's just not necessary when the content has quality of life to it, especially content that is about community.

They don't really stick to original designs of content like this much anyway, so after all this stress it's quite likely they end up nerfing stuff down the road anyway, going off their history of changes. Making it even more unnecessary.

I’m aware of that. As it stands now all PvE activities give very little reputation. The only thing that gives significant reputation is the FOTD. Unfortunately it’s difficult to complete it without getting attacked and the CoF stolen. It’s essentially a PvP activity if you truly think about it.

  • @wolfmanbush I said the same for the HG group, if you’re gonna throw your controller through the tv because you lost at a game and you won’t get your pixel reward soon enough, maybe put the game down. The game CAN feel like a grind….. IF YOU TREAT IT LIKE ONE. I log in and have fun with friends. If I put some numbers on the board awesome! If I just sail and laugh all day that’s cool too. I just don’t see the need to have it ALL and RIGHT NOW! Like ok so you get to level 100….. now what? Level 1000? Do you complain about that grind as well?

I’m am of the opinion that Rare has an expectation that guilds and HG will be around for a very long time. Simply as it doesn’t cap. So they can always add more rewards. Maybe the NEW NEW HOTNESS Curse will drop at guilds 850 lvl

  • It must be a bug or they reduced the xp gain per battle instead of increasing it in pve, I normally raised each level with a few battles.
