Enable Pirate Milestones on an uncaptained ship

  • Hello, I have noticed that the PIRATE MILESTONES are not being tracked on an uncaptained ship. In my opinion this should not be the case.
This discourages people from playing on uncaptained ships (and from staying on a ship after a captain leaves the game). If, for example, a player is having a good run and enjoying the session but the captain disconnects or leaves, players would probably leave the session instead of continueing to have fun because NOTHING you do would work towards the pirate milestones.
I understand the Ship Milestones being bound to the CAPTAINED SHIP, but I do not understand the PIRATE MILESTONES being bound to a CAPTAINED SHIP.
Since when does a Pirate need a captained ship to be a pirate?
I would love a change in a future update. Thanks

  • Pirate Milestones are tied to your pirate and can be earned while you are Captain or in another Captain’s crew

With how easy it is to buy a ship, everyone has a captain ship. Just join one. Or buy your own

Of course if they ever made non captain pirate milestones (what you are wanting) they have to give some type of reward for it. But you won’t be able to show it…
Because all current rewards goes toward your ship as trinkets. And if you don’t have a owned ship, can’t show them off. So why reward a trinket for pirates who aren’t gonna buy a ship?

So pretty much they have to give rewards for these pirates to show off there milestones progression. And no, can’t reward them for trinkets

  • I don't think milestones should progress on non-captained ships.

However, captain ships should regain their captaincy status if the captain leaves or disconnects and then comes back. Most of the time it isn't an issue, but it would be a nice QOL change.

  • This would only further upset the long-time playerbase. All of our stats from before Captaincy were already dismissed for various reasons.

This would be a real kick in the nards to veteran players, IMO.

Hard pass unless they can somehow retroactively credit players with their pre-Captaincy progression... Which they've said they can't... So...

  • I would rather there be a way to make an "un-captained" ship become a "captained ship."
80% of content added in Season Seven is basically non-existent in open crews lol, kinda ruined open crew hopping for me; literally missing out on progression just because im using an in-game matchmaking feature :p

    Open crew exists.

  • @burnbacon I already own 2 sloops and a galleon. Most of my friends do not play Sea of Thieves which leaves me with open crew. Open crew has a lot of new players that do NOT own a ship yet. If I join such as session, I instantly leave it because the ship is not captained. I do that even though I would love to help the newbies out, but by doing so I would spend hours playing the game without progressing in any way.
And for newbies it means that NOTHING they do before reaching 250.000 coins is progressing for them either. The megalodons they have slain, the forts they cleared, NOTHING counts.
The whole point of the pirate milestones is to SHOW OFF what your pirate has accomplished (on your captained ship which you eventually will ger) while playing this game.

  • @dexteriouss It would certainly be a step in the right direction.

  • @sweetsandman Main reason I have an issue with that is that there is no point for me to play on an uncaptained ship nowadays. I own several ships, but sometimes I want to join an open crew to help some newbies. But everything I do while helping them isn't being tracked due to them not owning a ship.

  • @neon-ic0n EXACTLY the problem I am facing. Before S7 I always played open crew to meet new players and to help newbies. Now there's no point for me to do that since NOTHING I do gets tracked.

You could always use your Captain'd ship and open your crew...

I know that the overwhelming majority people go to open crews in hopes that the crew they're joining is already in the middle of something...only to spawn in at a tavern.

But by the time you load your own ship, grab some supplies, leave the dock and throw down a voyage, that's all of 5 minutes and you'll likely get a lot of people wanting to stay on your crew.

Or keep hopping repeatedly and try to get on someone else's Captain'd ship...

  • It would go a long way when faced with all of these “can’t load ships” issue we keep having to battle with.
