dogs: carry skulls, goblets, drag chests and carry to the ship or to the emissary's store, bark at ship's invaders, help find buried treasure

birds: carry skulls, chalices and take them to the boat or to the emissary's store, could pick fruit on nearby islands and deliver it to the owner

cats: carry skulls, chalices and take them to the boat or to the emissary's store, could hunt the ship's rats, catch fish on the islands

  • Sorry. This would fall under “pay to win”
Not every pirate owns a pet or ever will.

  • @burnbacon

I have never bought old coins, and I have a monkey, a cockatiel and a parrot, just finding the ancient skull

  • @szenn1 They've already said they are never adding paid items that can do things. It doesn't matter if you got some for free, because there are people who do not have them and would have to pay to get the added benefits.

That doesn't make them any less a "Pay 2 Win" item since they can be bought with real money. The ability to earn some of that in game is completely irrelevant since it is random.

In fact it had been so long since I'd seen an ancient skeleton I missed one yesterday because I didn't recognize the emergent sound, thinking it was another ocean crawler and by the time I realized my error it was too late.

That all fine but again. It’s still pay to win

Your message just confirms it only something you want because “you own the pets” already. It doesn’t help those who don’t. Just makes it, if you want an extra hand you buy a pet.

  • Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

    That pay to win!

  • The only pet change I want to see is that I can equip ALL my pets AT THE SAME TIME!!! Or at least one of each type.

Also, in before someone suggests every one gets a free pet.

Pets have 3 uses. Separate you from your money, annoy your crew, annoy attacking crews.

Four: entertainment when you shoot them out of the cannon.
Five: alert other crew of your presence

  • seriously pay to win? give me a break…having a dog grab an item because you can only carry one is pay to win? its being helpful lol i love the idea because it helps you out during your adventure…it does not make that much of a difference…nobody is going to mske millions by having a dog carry a goblet i mean come on.. and this will actually help rare get more money to put in the game and make it better…they could also giveaway a free basic animal when this is implented…so its fair

  • Rule of the thumb: if you can't brig it, it shouldn't carry stuff!

So let's say you play solo and you only have trinkets/skulls/gems on board and no treasure chest
If you give the monkey the ability to sell small treasure you could, by buying one of them, sell in double the speed
That is an ADVANTAGE made through real money, what's called PAY TO WIN

Same thing...this way I can easy solo a devils roar goldhoarder vault and get ALL the stuff

  • Just a little bit ptw don't ya think?

  • @madfrito99 said in helping pets:

Why should they do anything? They are a cosmetic slot that you fill. I dislike pets in this game, maybe my hat should be able to fly off my head and sell loot for me. Pets, hats, hooks, they are just cosmetics and shouldn't do anything extra.

  • @szenn1 If pets didn't cost Ancient coins and you could buy them with the Bilge Rat coins I'd be all for this idea. If pets gave an advantage you should have to earn it, not have the ability to just hand over a few dollars.

  • It's an interesting idea, but I could see it causing issues. How would other players stop pets once they start to move the loot? You wouldn't be able to take the loot until the pet made it to it's destination. I guess you would have to catch the pet. That could be kind of funny, trying to chase a dog or cat around the beach.

  • I don't really see it as Pay to Win. It's not like a pet putting treasure on the boat is "Winning". If it is who loses? Now, if I was able to give my monkey an EoR and post him on top of the mast, I could see that being extremely problematic. If they ever did do this though (the carry not the gun) it would be more consumer friendly if people could buy a basic pet using gold, however this kind of expansion will never happen because of how Rare has already implemented pets over the past few years.

  • @mrstinkyfart169 said in helping pets:

The person who is chasing you trying to prevent you from selling/stealing treasure.

Selling or moving loot at doule speed is a huge advantage. And even if it was a small one, the game isnt and shouldnt be pay to win.

If we ever get pet improvements it should be something like playing catch with them, giving them their own emotes, telling them where to walk... something that does not affect gameplay performance.

  • no way…say your on a gold hoardes voyage, heck any voyage and no one is around…the pick a gem up for you and take it to your boat.,,thats it…how on Earth does that affect anyone!?!! they could release a standard pet u can purchase with gold to even the playing field

  • @madfrito99 said in helping pets:

Pets bought with gold, yeah that's a good way to make money from pets.

If it would only work when no-one is around, it would be quite useful as a tucker-detector as well ...

I guess I just don't see this as that huge of an advantage as I normally play disadvantaged (solo). Even if I am able to move loot twice as fast, I'm still disadvantaged in terms of firepower, repairs, boarding ect. I do agree though that a galleon with pets would be able to unload their ship stupid quick. IMO I think that if you aren't intercepted at sea, and you make it to an outpost, the quicker you're able to offload the better. I do however like your ideas about the pet improvements!

  • This would only work if everyone in the game got one of each for free

    Exactly this. 🏆

Except for the people who don't want to use Pets in a game that isn't "Pet Simulator 2022" now being at a direct disadvantage if they don't just grit their teeth and have to be followed around by a Pet they never wanted.

Pets are best as an optional thing, and they remain optional by not providing an advantage and simply being a cosmetic choice.

  • @jojo-buddy-v2 said in helping pets:

This would only work if everyone in the game got one of each for free

Actually, it wouldn't. This would only mean that anyone who willingly chooses not to use their free pet (because they don't like them, or any other reason really), they are at an automatic disadvantage. It basically forces everyone to equip a pet to remain competitive, and quite frankly, I don't like the idea of seeing as many pets as I do pirates - this is Sea of Thieves, not Zoo of Thieves.

EDIT: @redeyesith Beat me to it? REALLY!? 😔

  • @galactic-geek I must admit, your "Zoo of Thieves" moniker was better than my "Pet Simulator 2022" - so kudos right back at ya!
