It's definitely not. Think of it like this... If you pile up a bunch of random coins you'll have to sift thru them to find the one you want. The same logic applies here. If you have a pile of loot on your capstan you'll have to sift thru it to find the anchor. I understand you may feel like this is an exploit but it isn't it's just a dirty tactic. Like it or not it is what it is.
I don't agree or use this strategy for the obvious reasons. While an anchorball can be an effective counter, you may not realize or be able to capitalize on that until after you board - and by then, it may be too late (it certainly has been for me in the past).
I agree with solution 2, as presented by the OP. The wheel and the cannons can't hold loot, so why should the capstan? It makes the game inconsistent. Besides, the only downside to the removal of this strategy is that a crew will actually have to take responsibility for watching their ladders (Oh no! 🙄). Is that really so bad?
@galactic-geek you can actually put stuff on top of cannons and the wheel. While it doesn’t stop you from using it, I can hinder line of sight. I know from personal experience that putting loot on the railing next to the wheel can be annoying for the driver.
Not that you’d do that in a fight, but it can be done generally.
